this continues an ongoing thread on Gaza

The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

And there it is, the real aim of the Israeli government angry

Oreo Thu 12-Jun-25 21:11:22

I think hamas has made sure the two State solution won’t ever happen or not for a very very long time.It won’t be considered at all now.

Claremont Thu 12-Jun-25 21:19:13

So what do you propose? Do you agree with Smotrich and Ben Gvir

Iam64 Thu 12-Jun-25 21:24:36

Oreo much as I fear and despise Hamas and other terrorist organisation they aren’t solely responsible if a two state solution isn’t possible

Claremont Thu 12-Jun-25 21:26:09

I am quite sure you didn't listen to this man, and the solution he offers. Perhaps you could now.

I sincerely hope you don't agree with him- his words are unbearable to hear. And yet some agree with him. Kill them all, including all children and babies.

You don't need to look at Owen- his presence in the video is quite irrelevant.

They have set it back for years and years tho.

Smotrich issued his starkest warning regarding the prospect of unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state: “If you recognize a Palestinian state unilaterally, we’ll ensure there’s nothing left to recognize.”

My God.

Who will stop this dreadful man?

I think - only his own people, the wave within Jewish communities in Israel and indeed in the world, saying "enough".

Yes they have. I also believe the continued bombing and the fact children are suffering from malnutrition is contributing to setting back hope of a two state solution. A two state solution is surely the only hope for peace and it seems increasingly unlikely

Smileless2012 Fri 13-Jun-25 08:53:01

For a two state solution to be possible there needs to be two states and if this doesn't stop, there'll only be one.

Just what Hamas is planning

AGAA4 Fri 13-Jun-25 09:04:13

Israel have a much bigger enemy than Hamas. Iran will attack back very soon. Israelis are told to stay at home and schools closed waiting for the backlash from Iran.

Anniebach Fri 13-Jun-25 09:06:51

Hamas is far more than a bunch of terrorists

AGAA4 Fri 13-Jun-25 09:33:04

Hamas has been severely weakened and not much of a threat to Israel. Palestinians are turning against them now. Israel is in far more danger after attacking Iran. It's Iran they fear more.

Do you support the attack on Iran Annie. And do you support Smotrich and others who say even worse (as in the video I have shared and that you have not watched I am almost sure).

The two state solution was first raised in 1937. Again in 1948, and ever since then it is always mentioned as a goal.
Nothing has happened in nearly 90 years, and sadly it’s not going to happen now because Israel never wanted this from the start. Their aim has always been to take as much palistinian territory as possible, which is what it has done.

I can’t do links but it’s easy to find the historical maps of the area from the 1940s to the present day and see the shrinking of Palistine and the expansion of Israel from then til now. It might be a surprise to some, and worth a look to anyone who likes to see both, or all, sides of a conflict.

Aely Mon 16-Jun-25 11:18:34

Now Israel has made a premptive attack on Iran, possibly biting off more than they want to chew, maybe Gaza will have a bit of a respite from the brutality being inflicted on its civilian population.

Am curious as to why in all your many comments on this subject you always spell Palestine as Palistine and Palistinian?

Oreo Mon 16-Jun-25 11:30:56

The IDF are still very active in Gaza, going after hamas operatives and hunting for hostages. They recently were able to recover hostage remains to repatriate to Israel. It isn’t over in Gaza yet.

Something very important happened - Rabin was close to a two-state solution, and he was murdered so it coud not happen

In November 1995, Rabin was shot dead by Jewish extremist Yigal Amir, who believed the murder was religiously justified in order to bring an end to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process in the wake of the controversial Oslo Accords. Netanyahu was very close!

I hadn’t noticed Oreo. I do know the correct spelling but my iPad appears to have a mind of its own.

Yes, very active- and not 'just' going hamas operatives. Anyone remaining is fair game and no journalists or anyone to witness what is going on.

Caught a glimpse of an article on The Guardian online this morning, saying 'Labour MPs push Foreign Office to recognise Palestine statehood'. It's a reprise from 13th of April.

It’s Iran who now realise where the power lies, and it isn’t them!

Anniebach Tue 17-Jun-25 08:39:01

Unbelievable, Iran the goodies, Israel the baddies

Neither are goodies but Iran is a danger to all in that area and beyond need to be brought to heel.
I don't forget the genocide in Gaza however.
