It is very difficult to understand what is really happening and what are lies being perpetrated by Israel or Hamas. Add to this reporting restrictions and it is surprising we know as much as we do.

So a good decision.

The U.K. will join with France in September and recognise Palestine unless Starmer says

the recognition will happen at the UN unless the Israeli government takes "substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza", including a ceasefire and a commitment to a long-term peace process that delivers a two-state solution”

I think something about the West Bank needs to be included, but it is a start, and public pressure is undoubtedly beginning to have an affect.

Keep it up girls😄😄

Great news AGA and WWMsmile.

Sorry aga I didn’t see your post but telling it twice is no bad thing. We need some good news

Very good news - and about time.

Wyllow3 Tue 29-Jul-25 17:11:33

YES.

It's just a start though. We need to press harder still, there id still a great necessity to keep the pressure on more than ever, to see that our cabinet does what its said it would do. Ie, check that Netanyahu is meeting the conditions laid down by Starmer.

In a way, its better than a straightforward "we agree", because it lays down those specific aims and objectives

Lammy now at UN.

I’ve just watched Jeremy Bowen describe the north of Gaza, how the Israelis are actively preparing it for the extreme illegal settlers.

My anger and disbelief that this is going to happen is beyond despair.

Wyllow3 Tue 29-Jul-25 17:13:06

Agree re the West Bank, WWM2. Thats something to include in any emails.

I just cry.

Hang on in. Getting there.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 29-Jul-25 17:19:07

It will happen because Israel will never comply.

Yours was better than mine. I got a bit excited.

“The worse case scenario of famine, is now aging out in Gaza”

The children are past the point of no return.

Evil doesn’t begin to describe those who have inflicted this on those children.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 29-Jul-25 17:26:02

Not aging but “playing”

For the severely malnourished, food has to be carefully managed and monitored. Are there enough with the expertise needed to be able to do this?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 29-Jul-25 17:37:52

An excellent speech from Starmer.

Sounds as if it has been agreed with Trump as well

Someone on the BBC is worried that those children are past the point of no return.

Apparently many will be at the stage where their gut begins to eat itself and so will never recover.

MayBee70 Tue 29-Jul-25 18:05:23

I'll give Trump his due [and I've always said this about him]. I don't think he's a warmonger and I also think he hates the thought of war and killing. Maybe it's because of his bone spurs but that's me being unfair.

silverlining48 Tue 29-Jul-25 18:26:33

The re feeding of starving people esp children has to be very carefully managed, special food very slowly, a bit at a time,
It’s a huge mistake and dangerous otherwise.

Oreo Tue 29-Jul-25 18:26:41

Don’t forget that Starmer also says that hamas has to give up the hostages, disarm, and realise they have no place in any future government in Gaza.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 29-Jul-25 18:27:40

It won’t make a scrap of difference. Starmer is a lawyer and he knows this I’m sure. Hamas is a proscribed (by UK) terrorist organisation. And the hostages? Nothing said about their return sadly. Maybe it ought to have been done the other way round?

Return the hostages and then we’ll talk.

What is happening in Gaza is beyond horrific but this won’t butter any parsnips.

Gaza doesn’t have any borders, nor a stable population. Two of the requisites to recognise statehood.

Oreo Tue 29-Jul-25 18:29:09

AGAA4

The UK will recognise the state of Palestine in September. It's up to Israel now to agree to conditions.

…..and hamas!

Oreo Tue 29-Jul-25 18:31:21

I agree FGT it’s more of a diplomatic thing really.
In any case, only the US has any power to impose their views.

I’ve talked about that above.

An expert thinks that most of the tinies will be past the point of no return - their gut will now be consuming itself, and never recover.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 29-Jul-25 18:38:52

Well not in my name Starmer. How dare he tell Israel to make peace when Hamas won't agree to any ceasefire terms?

He’s caved into the demands of Labour MPs I expect, he’s between a rock and a hard place.
It doesn’t actually mean anything tho.
