It is very difficult to understand what is really happening and what are lies being perpetrated by Israel or Hamas. Add to this reporting restrictions and it is surprising we know as much as we do.

Wish it was the children of Palestine who were winning the game.

Maremia Sat 26-Jul-25 09:43:59

Interesting point Oreo. When would be a good time to recognise that the people of Palestine have the right to be citizens of a country?

MaizieD Sat 26-Jul-25 09:48:44

It isn’t the right time and Starmer knows it.

When will it be the ‘right time’, Oreo?. When every single Palestinian is dead?

AGAA4 Sat 26-Jul-25 09:51:57

Starmer has said it would be better to wait till there is a deal made for peace. Never then.

Smileless2012 Sat 26-Jul-25 10:03:13

There's never going to be deal made for peace. Starmer should be recognising Palestine as a sovereign state now or there'll be no Palestinians left angry.

The right time would be including it in a peace deal when hamas give up their weapons and return the hostages.
It will do precisely zilch at this present time.

Am curious, do you really think that Starmer or Macron recognising a Palestinian State would do anything at all? It doesn’t mean anything.
Well over a hundred countries had already recognised it.

No demands for Hamas , not a squeak from UN

AGAA4 Sat 26-Jul-25 10:12:28

When will that be Oreo? A month? A year? There are still many Hamas fighters in Gaza and it will be too late for many Palestinians if you think Hamas will surrender any time soon.

What are you talking about? You don’t seriously think any UK recognition of PA will help with that!

I was not suggesting that all support for Palestine was peaceful and legal or that peaceful protest has been banned by the government.

I was commenting on the numerous instances where the police have weighed in and arrested peaceful demonstrators.

Two recent examples come to mind. Firstly there was the case of the meeting in a Quaker Meeting House that was raided by six police officers who broke down the door and arrested some young women who were having a discussion.

The second example was a man who made a cartoon from the magazine Private Eye into a placard which he carried during a peaceful demonstration and was arrested for doing so.

There is a peaceful Quaker and others walk sponsored today in the city centre.

It is a silent protest. The very silence, speaks volumes

Yes, we know ow starving and dying children, whole areas laid waste by bombing, despite the apologists.

how can they pretend it is otherwise!

AGAA4 Sat 26-Jul-25 10:28:04

Oreo if Palestine is recognised as a state it makes what Israel is doing illegal and in certain circumstances such as genocide other countries can intervene.
Israel has committed war crimes already but to breach a recognised state is on another level and the more countries that get involved the better.

Smileless2012 Sat 26-Jul-25 10:40:02

It would at least show that we value the Palestinians Oreo and are against what Israel's doing assuming of course that we are.

Anniebach Sat 26-Jul-25 10:43:12

Hamas are Palestinians

Smileless2012 Sat 26-Jul-25 10:45:57

Not all Palestinians are Hamas Annie anymore than all Germans were Nazis.

Maremia Sat 26-Jul-25 10:48:30

The Palestinian children are not Hamas.

Maremia Sat 26-Jul-25 10:48:54

The Palestinian Christians are not Hamas.

silverlining48 Sat 26-Jul-25 10:52:49

Recognition of anything or anyone is always positive and if Palestine, which is currently stateless, is recognised it is at least a start and a gesture of goodwill.
Many countries have recognised that need and I applaud France for taking this opportunity and hope for some sort of peace.

I'm hoping Starmer's plan to evacuate seriously ill children in Gaza to the UK will be allowed.
If Israel refuse that will be another stain on them.

That's great plan. That plan is like when hi-jackers release selected hostages who are more trouble than they are worth.

Moreover it is to Hamas's advantage that babies are saved , as Hamas want to inherit a few young and healthy Gazans.

I just want to repeat the above from AGAA4 .

Surely save the adults who will procreate healthy Palestinians

Whitewavemark2 Sat 26-Jul-25 11:42:40

This conversation is getting seriously weird and unpleasant.

That's right Annie. However it takes time for women to get pregnant and then nine months , whereas babies are all ready and sorted .

AGAA4 Sat 26-Jul-25 11:46:14

I must be an old softy just hoping some children can saved. Not cynical enough obviously to think it has anything to do with Hamas.
