Much as I dislike Trump I believe he might have enough influence to achieve this.

There are calls that Israeli firms should be banned specifically, that is something to demand/message to MP's.

Maremia Mon 08-Sept-25 11:45:03

Yes, Eleothan, read about a very recent protest in Jerusalem, demanding that Netanyahu agrees to the latest plan to stop the war, and get those hostages freed. It would take some amount of mental gymnastics to call those marchers 'anti-semitic'.

Worth trying Wyllow, but in the present economic climate, not likely to succeed, but always worth a go.

I stopped following this thread because of the way it was going. Thankfully it seems to have come back on track. I've just listened to the TRIP podcast, an interview with James Elder who is a UNICEF Spokesman with a particular role in the care of children. It's entitled, "A war on children" a generation in Gaza at risk. This is someone who has visited Gaza on a number of occasions talking about what he has personally witnessed and experienced. I strongly recommend it especially to anyone in doubt about what the children in Gaza are experiencing. It is free to listen to.

Wyllow3 Your Quaker friend is very brave. I wish I had the courage to do something like that.

Thank you foxie for the information.

I thought I read Israel cannot attend the Arms Fair but maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. Arms Fairs are an abomination anyway.

More tragedy in Israel. Six people killed at a bus stop in Jerusalem, thirty plus in Gaza.

Palestinians murdered Israelis at a bus terminal, they came from the West Bank.Shot dead themselves by an Israeli soldier.

It won’t happen.
Israel is an ally of the UK and we trade with each other.

My dear Quaker Friend was arrested today along with many others.

She sent

"I did the Parliament Square witness yesterday against the proscription of PA and, not surprisingly, got arrested. Out on bail.
It was an empowering experience, with lots of hand holding and hugs from other protesters and volunteers from Defend Our Juries. I'm staying on to witness against the Docklands Arms Fair.

👏👏👍

Your friend was supporting Palestine Action, which is why she was arrested, silly woman.
She could have supported Palestinians in Gaza there was no need to support a government banned group with a history of violence.
No doubt it gave her an adrenaline rush 🤔

And your point is?

Maremia Mon 08-Sept-25 18:56:22

Perhaps the point is the one sidedness of your comment. I lamented the tragedy in Jerusalem, as well as the ones in Gaza.

Something on Facebook about Spain blocking airspace, in relation to the genocide in Gaza.
Will try to find it again.

AGAA4 Mon 08-Sept-25 19:20:23

Israeli Supreme court have said that Palestinian prisoners are not being given enough food. Civilised countries will feed their prisoners properly.
I know Hamas will not be feeding the hostages either but they are terrorists and don't follow an ethical code which is expected of Israel.

Article in the Jerusalem Post today, and many other news outlets, have reported that Spain is banning Israel-bound ships and aircraft from calling at Spanish ports or entering Spanish airspace, as announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

Sorry if link does not work.

From The Times “The UK does not consider Israel’s actions in Gaza to be genocide, David Lammy has said in a significant shift in position on the issue.

Until last week the UK government had maintained that the question of whether Israel had committed genocide was a matter for the courts and not for national governments to determine.

However, in a letter to the chair of the international development committee last week Lammy said that an assessment carried out by the Foreign Office had concluded that Israel’s actions did not constitute genocide.

The letter, sent before he was replaced as foreign secretary in the cabinet reshuffle, said: “As per the Genocide Convention, the crime of genocide occurs only where there is specific ‘intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group’. The government has not concluded that Israel is acting with that intent.”
I have been a staunch supporter of Labour ever since they were elected but I cannot support their stance on this sad.

Anniebach Mon 08-Sept-25 22:55:59

I definitely support it, I have said often, it is not genocide.

MayBee70 Mon 08-Sept-25 23:00:16

If it isn’t genocide I dread to think what is sad. It seems to me that Palestinian lives are deemed to be worthless.

Anniebach Mon 08-Sept-25 23:09:01

You believe Israel wants to kill all Palestinians? I do not

Wyllow3 Tue 09-Sept-25 00:16:14

Well they are certainly doing it to the people of Gaza. And want to, as well.

Eloethan Tue 09-Sept-25 00:55:44

Several high profile individuals in Israel have actually said it anniebach.

In an article in the Guardian written by Chris McGreal, he says:

"A prominent Israeli journalist and radio presenter, David Mizrahy Verthaim, has called for wholesale bloodletting:

“We need a disproportionate response … If all the captives are not returned immediately, turn the strip into a slaughterhouse. If a hair falls from their head - execute security prisoners. Violate any norm, on the way to victory,” he wrote on X.

"Others are looser in their language.

"When Israel’s defence minister, Yoav Gallant, ordered a “complete siege” of the Gaza Strip with “no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed”, he said: “We are fighting human animals [my emphasis] and we are acting accordingly.” "

B'tselm states:

"Statements by senior Israeli officials and actions on the ground prove beyond any doubt that, in Israel’s eyes, the entire population of the Gaza Strip is the target. Israel has been leading a systematic policy for almost two years, with clear and visible outcomes: entire cities erased, the healthcare system shattered, educational, religious and cultural institutions destroyed, more than 2 million people forcibly displaced, and masses killed and starved. All this and more, put together, constitutes a coordinated attack on all aspects of Palestinians’ life. It is a clear and explicit attempt to destroy Palestinian society in Gaza and create catastrophic living conditions that prevent the continued existence of this society in Gaza. That is precisely the definition of genocide.

"The UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide emphasizes the importance of intent to destroy the group as a group. International courts that have deliberated on the matter determined that "intent" can be inferred from documents and statements by policymakers, as well as from the pattern of conduct of the perpetrating forces. In the case of our genocide, the actions and statements of Israeli politicians and military officials, and especially policymakers, as well as the pattern of Israel's conduct in Gaza, clearly demonstrate that intent."

Although no longer a member of Labour, I did have some sympathy for the very difficult job they have to do. But now I am disgusted that the party, despite the overwhelming evidence (supported by many reputable organisations and individuals - including Jewish people) have rejected the widely held claim that genocide is occurring. No doubt they have been "leaned on" by the likes of Trump and other powerful people but this is the last straw.

Yes I started and will finish today. I stopped to catch my breath after listening to how very ill and injured children, screaming in severe pain, being transported for treatment on a short journey of 45 minutes, took 3 days because the soldiers stopped them continually. Some of the children as a result had gangrenous wounds because of the delay in treatment.

There is only so much I can take in when confronted by facts like this. I hate/loathe/despise anyone who can carry out targeted action like this. I simply can’t process the evil that is apparent in some people.

foxie48 Tue 09-Sept-25 07:45:39

"WWM" unfortunately the people who I hope would take the time to listen to it, won't and possibly if they did, they would dismiss James Elder as a liar but I still think it's worth trying to change minds. JE has worked for 20 years as a humanitarian, he was careful never take a political stance or point a finger except he clearly stated his position on the actions of Hamas on 7/10 but when he says he has never seen children being put into such a terrible position of trauma, famine etc ( my paraphrasing) we should listen and believe. This is a man who has visited Gaza on several occasions and who has also been in Ukraine, Sudan and every other dreadful place during his long career. Israel is committing genocide and IMO there is absolutely no doubt about it. It is wicked, deliberate and totally inhumane. I am not antisemitic but Israel needs to be stopped, it is sickening.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-Sept-25 07:49:15

Nothing to do with hating a person following the deity of their choice.

Everything to do with one of the most evil governments the west has yet produced.

AGAA4 Tue 09-Sept-25 08:22:23

US ambassador Mike Huckabee has said that the UK are wrong to recognise Palestine as a state and that it would be 'disastrous'.
Hamas must be destroyed it seems at any cost.
This man advises Trump so there's never been a chance of the US helping the Palestinians.
I just hope the UK won't be influenced by this statement from Huckabee.
