Much as I dislike Trump I believe he might have enough influence to achieve this.

Some IDF soldiers are now refusing to fight, saying they ‘are killing people for no reason’.

They clearly understand what’s going on … and want no part of it.

I think the soldiers will probs never recover from the atrocities they have taken part in, certainly many will get PTSD. Similarly to those who fought in the Vietnam war.

Some of the IDF are only 18 year old conscripts. It's atrocious what they have been ordered to do. They will have to live with the nightmares.

Oreo Thu 07-Aug-25 10:52:45

They have been in service to their country and will have strong views on the atrocities committed on October 7th 2023 by Gazans who were helping hamas that day.
Any soldier may get PTSD after war or conflict but it doesn’t follow that all will.

Smileless2012 Thu 07-Aug-25 11:03:08

If what we are hearing about some IDF soldiers refusing to fight is correct, perhaps that is because regardless of their views of what happened on October 7th 2023, they see no justification and/or reason for killing people for no reason.

I wonder what would happen if sufficient numbers of generals who are speaking against continued and further action refuse to lead, and their troops refuse to carry on.

Good point Smileless.

According to The Times of Israel there is now a problem with reservists not turning up for duty and an increased number of suicides amongst IDF soldiers.

This from an Israeli mother:

“Ima Era (Wide-Awake Mother), an organization of mothers of IDF soldiers, said in a statement carried by the Haaretz daily that “when soldiers repeatedly cry out that they can no longer continue, this is not a ‘disciplinary issue.’ It is a damning indictment of a system that has pushed its people to the edge of their endurance.”

What is the Israeli government doing to it’s own young people?

A very good question.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Aug-25 16:21:26

Between 50% and 60% of reservists are refusing to report for duty

Where can this be checked

Oreo Thu 07-Aug-25 16:34:59

They face prison then.

Oreo Thu 07-Aug-25 16:35:39

Yes, the figure needs to be verified.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Aug-25 16:38:28

Israeli media estimated the attendance rate of soldiers hovering around 50%percent or even at 40% percent or lower. According to Restart Israel, a movement advocating for a democratic Israel, nearly 12,000 reservists have refused over the course of the war.

Oreo Thu 07-Aug-25 16:49:11

That’s not exactly proven, and how many of the reservists who ‘refused’ service ( you can’t just choose) were able to avoid service for any medical condition ( there are a number of things ) or were from a very religious sect ( they do refuse military service).

Israel Security Cabinet is meeting over a plan to occupy Gaza completely. There is opposition from the leaders of the IDF and other ministers. They say this would endanger the hostages and the Gazan people.
Trump says it's up to Israel to decide what to do.
Netanyahu's plan is almost complete.

It has already begun I think, as there has been so many atrocities in Gaza city during the past couple of days.

The pictures are dreadful.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Aug-25 17:00:46

The evidence is growing to a tsunami

“In MSF’s nearly 54 years of operations, rarely have we seen such levels of systematic violence against unarmed civilians.”

The GHF-run food distributions in Gaza, Palestine, have become sites of “orchestrated killing and dehumanisation”, not humanitarian aid.”

Since BN has to listen to advice from Army chiefs and other top military he cannot decide alone and will have to carry others with him.
It may go any way.

Anniebach Thu 07-Aug-25 17:08:14

Surely it will go to a vote ?

I can’t believe that people are denying that this is happening. I feel as if I’m in some sort of alternative universe.

I would hate to be one of those IDF senior chiefs. I would be torn between my duty to my country and my conscience.

Yeah yeah! I know we're not supposed to compare this with WW2, but it really is like Hitler during the last few months - except, of course, Netanyahu has won the military battle. He's never going to destroy the ideology, even if he kills every single remaining Hamas soldier. He could be responsible for the death of the hostages, will certainly be responsible for the deaths of more Palestinians and probably IDF troops. Palestinians won't forget this for generations to come.

I'd like to think he'll listen to his military chiefs, but I honestly think he's flipped.

growstuff Thu 07-Aug-25 18:11:56

There's video (not verified admittedly) of aid trucks from Jordan crossing through Israel towards Gaza being hijacked by Israelis, sitting in the road chanting “may Palestine’s name be wiped out” (in Hebrew). Jordan certainly believes it happened two days in a row because it's issued an official condemnation. What kind of people do that?

Anniebach Thu 07-Aug-25 18:22:52

There is video of Hamas terrorists climbing on aid trucks waving guns

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Aug-25 18:25:01

They are extreme settlers, although Michael Rosen has posted a speech given by the Chief Rabbi of France which is pretty horrific.

JVL Introduction
Just when you think the depravity of Israel’s defenders has reached rock bottom, along comes the Chief Rabbi of France, Haim Korsia, justifying the Gaza massacres in terms that chill the blood.

In response to a French TV interviewer asking if he condemned the massacres in Gaza as he did the Israeli deaths on 7 October, Korsia said: “They are not of the same order.”

Palestinian lives – of fathers, mothers, old people, teenagers, children, infants – are “not of the same order” as Israeli lives. They do not weigh as much in the scale of humanity. They can be discounted.
