It would be great if those who watch it give their view. Obviously those who don't want to watch already have plenty of threads running. Many thanks.

There was a poll on one of the news programmes the other day which showed that most people seemed to think that the number of illegal immigrants was far greater than legal ones. They had no idea of the true figures.

I have watched it, what a load of rubbish. Nigel is not creating a feeling of crisis, there is a crisis! He is also a brilliant orator and debater, his maiden speech in the HoC was brilliant. What a load of absolute tosh from an obvious left wing bias.

And there we have it! Exactly what they aim for.

We really do seem to be leaving in a post-truth world.

I repeat, Teazel, what will Mr Farage do , if he is " given a chance"? How will he control our borders?
Lots of rhetoric, not much thought through, costed policy. If he has a wonderful plan, please share it with us. I'm sure that a government of any persuasion would be happy to implement a proven, well researched tactic
You might not like what he has in mind for Education, Health Provision, or Defence... but he doesn't talk so much about these subjects.

The government could do worse than listen to him! On another thread there was mention of a youtube clip by the blackbelted barrister. Please listen to that for some suggestions of what can be done, in answer to your question. Also you do come across as quite fierce, we are all entitled to our opinions.

So you think its just Reform and not every government doing the same thing?

For some reason my name is as if I'm being quoted.

Just to say I didn't write any of this. Nor would I.

PoliticsNerd Fri 08-Aug-25 11:16:24

Of course it's spot on.

If what you mean is that Ms "Handcart"'s piece is a brilliant take off of the hysteria the extreme right-wing press attempts, in order to build on Farage mania.

It is perfectly pitched to show how they spread his propoganda and how those Private Eye seems to be framing as politically illiterate will swallow just about anything that the gutter-press and Farage, Trump, et al come out with.

I have a theory Maizie and Whitewave that each year we are retired and away from front-line IT, we lose a little bit of our ability to make our devices do what we want.

I think we lose more than a little bit. I'm travelling a hundred miles to see my son in a couple of weeks, so he can help me buy a new phone. My own phone was one of the first Android smartphones and is now (sadly) on its last legs. The trouble is that I really don't understand most of the clever things modern phones can do, so need help.

PoliticsNerd Fri 08-Aug-25 12:10:47

I always buy a second-hand phone as I don't need all the bells and whistles and it makes me feel bit better that it's recycled.

I had mastered paying using my phone. On the "new" one you have to double click on the side to do this. I physically can't double click. Youtube is my friend and it tells me that you can put a virtual button on screen. These very clever people lead me through it until we get to having to double click the side button to install the virtual one! Message sent to daughter. A couple of minutes after she came over a few days later it was all set up!

But really phone-makers!?

I've realised that some of the "bells and whistles" would be useful. For example, my phone doesn't cope with shopping apps or satnav. It doesn't have much storage either, so I'm forever having to delete photos. I could also do with a bigger screen because my eyesight is so poor that I can't even see the numbers.

I don't want to be hoodwinked by some phone salesperson, which is why I'm taking my son with me. He understands his "old mum" and he knows my budget.

growstuff it is not just classic Farage though is it?

The boat crossings are on virtually every news bulletin along with newspapers along with digital media.

The current government particularly the Hone Secretary are also focusing on this topic.

That's not surprising. The UK has very biased media and Farage has loud voice. Just because it's headline news doesn't mean that it's the most important issue facing the country. What it means is that the government's spin doctors and PR teams aren't doing a very good job.

It is classic Farage and all the people who are falling for his rhetoric.

Its not a question of falling for his rhetoric, which is a patronising statement. Its a question of this and previous government failing to control our borders. Nige may not be the answer but he deserves a chance and can be no worse than what has gone before. I know there are a hard core on here who scoff but everyone I speak to in everyday life is really fearful of what is happening.

👏👏👏👏

Exactly this

Boz Fri 08-Aug-25 13:00:04

The present Gov. is only in power because we were all fed up with the last lot.
This voter pattern will probably persist.

Proof that you and everybody you speak to in everyday life have fallen for the rhetoric. I'm glad I don't speak to the same people, but of course it's worrying that so many people have fallen for it.

PoliticsNerd Fri 08-Aug-25 15:54:37

Of course everyone you speak to thinks as you do. We all tend to associate with people like ourselves, Teasle2. It up to us, not others, to work out why we chose to believe what we believe and whether it's the right thing to do.

Let me ask you a question. We all know how Hitler turned the Jews into the "enemy of the state". Do you now, after decades of learning about the history of that terrible period in Europe, believe that all or anything that was said about the Jews to make them the enemy of the state was true?. Did they actually deserve what was basically retribution for the very difficult problems Germany faced. Did focusing on them solve those problems as easily and simply as promised - or at all? Did the people of Germany feel vindicated at the end of it all?

I am not sure who ‘these same people’ are, I can imagine who you think I mix with but you would be wrong.
