"Villagers verbally abuse Scouts they mistook for migrants" (Daily Telegraph)

The subheading is "Newbridge residents confuse 30 Scottish teenagers on summer trip for asylum seekers"

The brainwashing by the far-right seems to work best on those of little brain. Of course we are all entitled to our views even when they are factually incorrect but the words for people who do this fail me.

First we find these extremists cannot tell the difference between a "small boat" full of asylum seekers and a four person rowing boat, now this!

This is the hysteria that has been deliberately built up so that these people have a completely exaggerated idea of the number of asylum seekers in this country.

But please, continue with the extremist bias if it's your thing. Eventually even the densest brain will realise they are not being told truths but are part of the foot-soldiers, who are disposable to those they see as leaders.

There is already a thread.

Galaxy Wed 13-Aug-25 09:50:08

Oh sorry no there isn't. I think it is a different area, same kind of thing.

StripeyGran Wed 13-Aug-25 09:58:19

No chance, it's woven into the psyche now.

I hope this thread fades into the obscurity it deserves.
Patronising and insulting are words that spring to mind...

Crossstitchfan Wed 13-Aug-25 10:23:21

I don’t understand. What exactly is your problem with it? I can’t see a ‘patronising and insulting’ issue on there. Could you explain please?

If you can't see it I can't help you.

I know residents living in that area, seems O/P sets herself/himself to judge the intelligence of people she doesn’t know or quite probably never met .

I certainly can think of several far lefts who are certainly of little brain

Yet one poster thinks describing people “of little brain” isn’t
offensive

The thread on this is under Chat

I’d laugh if it wasn’t so serious - the thought of Scottish scouts seeking asylum in Wales?

It’s not often I say Hear, hear PoliticsNerd but these 2 news items speak volumes about the level of hysteria fostered by social media.
“Invading Germans disguised as nuns” doesn’t seem so ridiculous any more
Does anybody remember “Reds under the beds “ as well?

Galaxy Wed 13-Aug-25 10:47:00

Oh I was right then that makes a changegrin

I was just thinking the same thing as you MaizieD

This to PN ….I think we all know the numbers of asylum seekers as it’s broadcast just about every day so nobody has an exaggerated idea of the number.
Then you say to posters ‘but please, continue with the extremist bias if that’s your thing’. That’s nice!

livelylady Wed 13-Aug-25 10:53:31

Anyone care 3 more boats of illegals have arrived this morning so far. Totally incensed we are borrowing money or stealing from pensioners/tax payers to support this. We are funding tickets to football matches, driving lessons plus all accommodation costs.
Let's call for this government to resign if they can't put a stop to all this and deport the thousands already here.
Maybe Trump can help if they can't?

Oreo Wed 13-Aug-25 10:57:38

Starmer must have his head in his hands at times, and this morning will be one of those times I imagine.
I was appalled to see the pic of an overloaded boat in the shallows in France with three small children and adults trying to climb aboard. Just hope it made it safely to land .

mrsmeldrew Wed 13-Aug-25 11:43:09

I can't forget Reform MP Rupert Lowe hysterically posting that small boats were off the shore at Great Yarmouth and it turned out to be charity rowers.

All the problems in this country but small boats is No. 1 according to most of the media.

Small boats makes up 4% of immigration numbers.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 13-Aug-25 11:47:54

..but these people were British nationals, on a coach, not a boat, so I fail to see how this thread became about boats/ migrants/ Mr Starmer et al.
It was, to put it politely, not that town's finest hour.

Lathyrus3 Wed 13-Aug-25 12:05:43

Hmm. The headline you quoted isn’t accurate or exactly true either *Politicsnerd”. so I don’t think you should be all superior about people “of densest brain who … are not being told truths”.

It seems that you are one of them?

As there's already a thread no need for this one, it's insulting to the people of Newbridge as they are bring damned by a few who posted on social media.

But, as another Welsh Gransnetter said, we're all twp in Wales.

Allira Wed 13-Aug-25 12:14:33

And for those who don't understand the difference, Newbridge is a town.

Here you are - another judgemental thread condemning all the people of Wales!
Enjoy.

Extremism certainly isn't nice.

The reaction of the people seeing young campers - who hadn't just moved onto a verge somewhere but would have made preparation and booked the field - was simply hysterics. And why did the feel that way. Because the extremist far-right have been winding people up in the attempt to create another summer of riots.

Lathyrus3 Wed 13-Aug-25 13:45:56

But politicsnerd, why are you believing the erroneous headline you have read in the Daily Telegraph?

Are you being wound up?

But we don't. So many misleading and untrue statistics are out there so you believe what you want to believe.

I can't stop people having an extremist bias in any direction, nor would I want to. I want to live in a liberal democracy that emphasises democratic elections, an independent judiciary, and has a system of checks and balances between our branches of government.

I do not want to move towards a dictatorship. This is what the far-right in America is moving their country towards and using targeted minorities as a scapegoat group. They are setting them up as the 'undesirables', 'the enemy within', just as the Nazi's did to the Jews and just as has been tried before in our own country.

These groups are not the root of all our problem they are a small part but not necessarily of their own making. Often our problems come from decisions we have chosen to make ourselves.

PoliticsNerd Wed 13-Aug-25 14:15:42

Temporary Chief Superintendent Jason White said:

"The group featured in the video were visiting from another part of the country to attend a frequently used Scout camp in Newbridge and many of the people in the video are children.

"The site is not used to house anyone on a permanent basis. The site is used by our dog handlers to train our police dogs when not used for visits and our officers are not guarding the location."

This is from Sky news and appears to have been fact-checked. I can't imagine why he would have said this if an incident had not taken place.
