Man made famine - the world should be ashamed

We sit by watching as children starve to death, their mothers’ cannot feed them and their fathers’ unable to provide them with food.

Every single calorie is controlled by one government.

Why are we allowing this situation to continue?

It's also easy to press the quote button and add your comment. Much clearer as some posts are so muddled it's difficult to know who typed what.

I wouldn't want Israel to be invaded. Netanyahu was unpopular with the Israelis even before this war and is even more so by many.
I wouldn't want those who are against this extreme regime to suffer.

If a foreign army went into Gaza and chased the IDF back to Israel that would stop this but I don't think that will happen as it could cause a world war.

If

Am glad that you don’t but I suspect a lot of people would be very happy to see that happen.
No foreign government or army would be interested in interfering in Gaza.

AGAA4 Mon 25-Aug-25 16:52:15

Of course not Oreo for the reason I gave. I would say they are unwilling rather than not interested.

Israel murders four more journalists this morning in a strike on Gaza's Nasser hospital.

(Presumably Israel will tell us that Maryam Abu Daqqa was a Hamas commander too)

They then murdered the first responders who had gone to help people

War crime.

Those taking part will answer for these evils.

I have just listened to the podcast, This American Life, it's latest episode is called "The Other Territory" and is about what is happening in the West Bank to the Palestinians who live there. It is extremely upsetting. The last section is about the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, many of whom have not been charged with any offence. It is utterly appalling, these prisoners are also being starved and left untreated for serious illness caused by their treatment. The description of a the body of a 17 year old boy by an Israeli doctor who attended the inquest is dreadful and should be seen as shameful by any right thinking person. The atrocities being committed by this Israeli government is a disgrace to any civilised society. This podcast is free to access.

I agree, would like to listen to this podcast.
What those who defend the actions of the Israeli government cannot square away is the terrible treatment of Palestinians on the West Bank, where illegal settlers attack Palestinians and take their land and property, often with the support of the IDF.
There are no Hamas operatives on the West Bank.

And it has been going on for decades.

JohnnyMo Mon 25-Aug-25 19:08:09

There are no independent journalists in Gaza. Hamas Propaganda or Israeli Propaganda, the truth lies somewhere between the two.

The BBC refuses to use any news reports controlled by the IDF as these are not independent but accept what is controlled by Hamas as valid.

I have never seen a famine where relief lorries are wrecked and looted by those who are meant to be starving.

I've seen man-made famines in Africa, where food is held back by forces to create a famine which is different to the situation in Gaza. AFAIU Israel would allow food in providing the UN could guarantee its' safe distribution.

So every aid agency and human rights organisation, as well as western governments and the UN, are lying when they say that the Israeli government has caused the famine??
The trucks laden with aid cannot deliver it because the IDF fire upon them and people desperate to access the food.

ITN sent a team in with the IDF, relief supplies were being looted and the IDF troops were discussing do they shoot the looters or not.

In the end they didn't and the convoy was looted. Hamas will then get good pictures of starving children but young men (maybe Hamas maybe not) are well fed.

It is a man made famine, but not necessarily by who you expect.

I have to ask why Hamas has been allowed to get away with dominating the narrative in their favour? Why is the West not recognising phenomenal bias and lies in reporting? More particularly in the Uk, where is accurate and truthful reporting? We seem to be sleepwalking into a very anti Israeli narrative.

foxie48 Mon 25-Aug-25 19:33:43

The podcast is about the West Bank, not Gaza. Journalists have contacts there and are able to go there. Hamas are not based there it is governed by the Palestinian Authority.

Anniebach Mon 25-Aug-25 19:39:12

Hamas are Palestinian

AGAA4 Mon 25-Aug-25 19:50:10

Israel is being condemned by so many I fail to see why, if they are as innocent of wrongdoing as some think, they don't allow foreign journalists into Gaza.
The answer is quite clear. I believe what they would find would shock us even more.

Doesn't always work like that. Ever seen any Nazi propaganda of the excellent conditions in concentration camps, then stories coming out about the horrific conditions. What was found when allied troops liberated the camps? Was the truth somewhere between the two.

Why don't they let independent journalists in if they have nothing to hide?

The BBC never report on Gaza without giving the Israeli response. I have sat through lots of reports with the Israeli spokesperson just stonewalling when the BBC presenter asks questions, as they would of any interviewee.
The IDF would not normally be reporting on these issues, that is the government spokesperson's role. Just as in Ukraine, the government spokesperson reports, not the army commanders.
BBC cannot interview (& question) Hamas government officials as that would endanger their lives.

foxie48 Mon 25-Aug-25 21:18:58

Ronib The podcast I listened to is American and hosted by Ira Glass who is Jewish and an award winning broadcaster. What I find strange is that people think they are being given Hamas propaganda when the information is coming from sources which are much more reliable and have much less to gain from being biased than the Israeli government.

Anniebach Mon 25-Aug-25 22:12:09

At least 20 people, including five journalists working for the international media, have been killed in an Israeli double strike on Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, the territory's Hamas-run health ministry says.

The world takes Hamas as so reliable

Even Netanyahu is admitting this "mishap" happened. Is he reliable.

ronib Tue 26-Aug-25 06:51:40

The hospitals are still being used to provide support for Hamas? Why else would Israel attack?

Aveline Tue 26-Aug-25 07:02:43

I'm amazed you can't work that out!!

No other reason for Israel to attack, they have always said why the war, Hamas wants to kill all Jews, Israel is the only Jewish State

And the Geneva Convention relating to civilians?

Do we all ignore that now?

Do that and anarchy prevails, which the world will live to regret.

Israel’s behaviour is despicable

ronib Tue 26-Aug-25 08:24:28

It was thought that Hamas had placed a camera on the roof of the hospital and that Israeli troop movement was being filmed.

It was thought that Hamas had placed a camera on the roof of the hospital and that Israeli troop movement was being filmed.

It was thought with no proof. Israel killed 20 people to possibly find one Hamas reporter.
So many have been killed by Israel looking for one Hamas member with no real proof that they were present.
