We sit by watching as children starve to death, their mothers’ cannot feed them and their fathers’ unable to provide them with food.

Every single calorie is controlled by one government.

Why are we allowing this situation to continue?

Israel is currently at war. Journalists are part of the propaganda machine used by Israel’s enemies. Al Jazeera for example.

So let other journalists into Gaza and get a more unbiased account of what is actually going on. Name your poison when it comes reading the news Ronib and you can bet a journalist would be willing to report for that particular news outlet.
Embeds are used in wars, from the American civil war onwards, journalism has played a part. As with the Pilger reports from Vietnam.

What are those 28 countries thinking? The arrogance is breathtaking. Butt out buddies. Israel’s problem and Israel’s solutions. The USA is the only country showing any true leadership in this war.

A fact that gets brushed under the carpet.

You have seen two small children and a woman ‘ allegedly starving’. A group of small Children begging with bowls.? You describe a fence and make your harsh judgement and denial of truth based on photos of less than 10 women and children. There are 2.3 million people in Gaza? Minus the tens of thousands already dead. As well as the tens of thousands injured by war but without adequate medical care. The most amputations in children that doctors from abroad have ever seen which has been reported over and over by British medics.
If Israel were not worried about what the world would see, they would have allowed international journalists in to report. But they won’t do that, because of what they are doing there . The world still sees, and hears. Israel has now and forever lost the higher ground that it has always had in the past.
There was a British nurse who spoke from Gaza on the r4 Today programme this morning. Do you discount her report and all the other British medics over the last many months who have reported from there, as lies?

It is true Annie. The Israeli government will not let journalists into Gaza, pressure has been brought to bear several times with regard to this, but the government remain unmoved.

Babs, I know journalists not allowed into Gaza , I question why Hamas doesn’t release evidence of the starvation of many, they showed three which were not true , the few photographs show alleged harm caused by by Israel !

silverlining48 Sat 23-Aug-25 11:48:55

Tragically it seems the only person who could make this stop is Trump. If only he would. He might even pick up that Nobel prize he’s after.

No the quickest way is for the leader of Hamas to surrender.

Refusing to release the hostages doesn’t seem to be helping Gaza but it’s helping Hamas , who it now seems are victims trying to save Palestine

If Hamas release anything it will be slammed as being fake, but aid agencies have released pics which have been shown on the news.
You more than anyone would not take whatever Hamas releases, I personally wouldn’t take anything either side releases as the actual truth. That’s is why we need journalists from all news outlets ready to send a crew, people can then select which journalist they trust the most to deliver the truth of the matter.

ronib Sat 23-Aug-25 12:11:36

Hamas leadership is clinging on to life. Death for them is not an attractive option. Stuff the rest of the population….

Where are videos from Hamas showing the victims of the alleged starvation, we saw the horrors of Ethiopia

There have been videos and photographs of starving babies and children on news channels for weeks. I can't believe you haven't seen them.

Journalists were allowed into Ethiopia they aren't allowed into Israel.

How many times does it have to be said that the hostages Could and should have been released in March months ago, but Israel broke that agreement and began the bombing again.

Hamas agreed, with conditions of a ceasefire, yet again in the last week to releasing hostages but Israel will not agree. Again.
So which side is wanting to stop the killing, it’s not Israel.

ronib Sat 23-Aug-25 12:27:36

Why did Israel not agree? I read it was because only 10 hostages out of 20 were going to be released. Not the 30 corpses that Israelis want returned. What mindset even proposed this? Hamas.

silverlining48 Sat 23-Aug-25 12:31:07

The hostages were to be released in two stages.

silverlining48 Sat 23-Aug-25 12:31:40

All of them could have been home 6 months ago.

The leader of Hamas could end the war a lot quicker than Trump, return the hostages and agree to an unconditional surrender.

Babs03 Sat 23-Aug-25 12:35:44

Once Hamas return the hostages Israel will destroy what is left of Gaza. Hamas disarming or withdrawing won’t prevent this.

AGAA4 Sat 23-Aug-25 12:36:37

What mindset wouldn't agree to give 10 hostages back to their families. Now no hostages will likely be returned.

ronib Sat 23-Aug-25 12:36:41

Gaza is being destroyed as we type.

No one has a monopoly on compassion.

OP, "sitting by" is harsh. What do you think GB can practically do that it isn't doing?

How do you know this ? If as is repeated here Israel is killing all in Gaza, why not release all hostages and give at least some chance to stop the alleged genocide

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-Aug-25 12:50:08

Justifying the killing of 10s of thousands of civilians by invoking “human shields” torches the core principles of international law.

This argument piles fallacy upon fallacy. Under international law, using civilians as human shields means forcing them to live alongside military targets. It doesn't mean fighting in an area that just happens to have civilians around. Hamas certainly does the latter. It fights from withinGaza’s civilian population, and thus puts civilians at risk. But that is typical of insurgent groups. No guerrilla force puts on brightly coloured uniforms, walks into a field and takes on a vastly more powerful conventional army.

In fact even conventional armies operate near civilians. Civilians do not become fair game just because there are fighters near-by

Additional protocol to the Fourth Geneva. Convention, the presence of fighters in an area ‘shall not release the Parties to the conflict from their legal obligations with respect to the civilian population”
One key obligation is proportionality. According to the Additional Protocol, the “loss of civilian life” from an attack cannot be “excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated”

Israel’s assault on Gaza became excessive on October 9th when it cut off food and electricity to everyone in Gaza.

We can stop broadcasting Hamas propaganda, none of it can be verified, the BBC makes the disclaimer every time, doing so supports Hamas.
