No one on this thread or indeed anywhere, except the perpetrator and perhaps his accomplices, knows the reason for the act.
Never the less whoever is responsible - extrapolating to blame say the whole of the right or left is a mugs game.
What we do know for absolute certainty is that American society is as polarised as it has ever been, and it should be the responsibility of the government to bring its population together in a spirit of cooperation and community.
Authoritarianism and populism ensures the polar opposite.

I am rather fed up with the right is bad and aggressive tropes, particularly when some of the supposedly kind and caring folks (not just in GN but across all SM) can be just as vile as the next person.
Have you actually read what kind of views Kirk was promoting? I'm surprised you think that anybody who thinks those views are vile is some kind of polarised extremist.

There's always some influence behind what gets pushed in the UK media. I wonder what it is in this case. I agree with you that it's disproportionate. Turning Point UK has never been as successful as Turning Point USA.
I only know about this man what I have researched since his murder.
Whilst I do not agree with all of his views, I can still feel empathy for his wife and two very young daughters.
I cannot bring myself to hate someone just because of their political beliefs.
There are celebrities both side of the pond on X celebrating this man’s demise, and going by their posts they are on the left of centre.

I deplore this man's death, as I do the senator, as I do the deaths of children in the USA. It is the leading cause of death for children between one and seventeen.

I feel some empathy for the wife and children of everybody who gets murdered - whether they're in Gaza or Utah. I have no special empathy for anybody connected with Charlie Kirk.
Read a bit more about his political beliefs and then come back and say with a straight face they're reasonable and moderate. Think of a cross between Andrew Tate (without the child abuse), Goebbels and Trump and you'll have an inkling of what his views were. Dangerously, Trump listened to and used him.
The president of the USA has understandably condemned this murder and is doing everything he can to make sure people know about it and grieve and condemn murder. It is legitimate to ask why he has said so little about murders of politicians who were not members of his party.

If Trump expressed as much horror when a non-supporter was murdered in this way, he might have to admit the US gun laws are unacceptable. And that actually would be horrific for him!

I do NOT condone his murder, but I can’t say I am sorry about the demise of another man constantly expressing views that indicated we should return to an idealised early 20th century life where women were only allowed to be homemakers and bear children. That guns should be allowed everywhere. That gays should be stoned, etc. he believed in the Great Replacement theory. None of that is just a different political viewpoint. Most of Those sort of things should not even be POLITICAL, they are one’s own personal beliefs and if you have any type of morals or Christian or other religious belief, then think about why you believe. Kirk got millions of $ for pushing his beliefs, he has to be applauded for going on to theses campuses to debate, but basically he was a young, attractive, ‘cult’ leader who spread his poison far and wide, like Trump, sucking in the vulnerable, and brainwashing people into following their own ‘bad angels’. Racism and misogyny are very attractive to young people trying to form their own beliefs, and not just to the young!

Only vile views in your eyes, in many they aren’t at all vile.
The main thing is that do you consider it ok if those that you find to have vile views are shut up permanently by shooting them?
