Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

Educate yourselves about this 'hero'.

YouTube has many Charlie Kirk videos to pick from. He did offer an alternative way of living and was easily misrepresented. He isn’t going away anytime soon.

He invited challenges from amateurs. He couldn't debate in properly moderated discussions. Like Trump, he used false information and cherry-pocked facts and plenty of irrelevant straw man arguments. He wan't misrepresented - he represented himself all to accurately.

Oreo I cope with it, I am after all old and gnarly and have coped for many years thank you very much. I just find some posters depressing and wearisome as the stupid never seems to stop.

Are you saying anyone who disagrees is insane, IOMGran?

This thread becomes more far-fetched and vitriolic than ever.
And totally confusing too.

No, just hard of thinking or wilfully refusing to think.

So I am stupid AND homophobic? GN just keeps getting better and better doesn't it.

You are one of the thoughtful and sane posters here. Please don't let them drive you away. I only dip in and out here because I find it toxic.

I dip in and out for lack of time but strangely I manage to cope with reading comments that I may deem ‘toxic’ too.
It’s all part of the wonderful patchwork that’s Gransnet.Reading views that don’t chime with our own.

if someone quotes Leviticus saying gay people should be stoned to death, and calls that "God's perfect law," it's accurate to say they called for gay people to be stoned to death. Likewise, it's inaccurate to say they never called for it. bc I can parse language and understand how humans communicate

No iamaround but I am beginning to think that Charlie Kirk may have presented his ideas in a perhaps too sophisticated manner for anyone not used to this style of discourse. He was a modern day philosopher? He was also attacking mainstream trends.

LOL, modern day philosopher in the mould of that arch charlatan Jorden Peterson, the idiot who uses long words and rhetoric to impress the hard of thinking. I remember Malcolm Muggeridge, similar vibes. Pompous old fart.

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 13-Sept-25 18:37:37

Leviticus is in the Old Testament and is for the guidance of the Jewish faith. Jesus said that he had made a new covenant with his people, which superceded earlier guidance.
This is why Christians are not bound by Jewish dietary rules, do not circumcise their baby boys, do not require women to cut their hair on marriage etc etc.

It seems odd you haven’t noticed that he’s dead. Or maybe you meant his views aren’t going away any time soon? Please be more sophisticated with your language use!!

Kirk was a very effective communicator but that doesn't mean his arguments were correct, just that he put them over well and was well rehearsed. I don't think anyone needed a high IQ or to be particularly sophisticated to understand his philosophy of life. It was basically a pro white male kick back against a culture which challenged the things he believed in and traditionally had benefited from, it was very appealing to young unsophisticated white males who thought they had been sold short! A bit like Andrew Tate without the sex trafficking and like Tate he was making a lot of money out of telling white college kids that they'd had a raw deal. IMO he was a talented young man who was using his talents in a destructive but lucrative way, a bit like drug dealers who, if they ran legit businesses, would probably be quite successful but why bother when there's an easier market to mine! He also vaguely reminds me of those Evangelist Christians that recruited thousands of new members and lived in luxury and dissipation or snake oil salesmen but I digress!

I seen them. I still hold the same opinion that he didn't deserve to die, but I am not going to mourn him either.

So no, watching his racist, homophobic, misogynistic drivel won't change my mind. That doesn't make me, or anyone else that disagreed with you, stupid, unsophisticated, homophobic or anything else that has been passive aggressively thrown around on this thread.

Have a nice weekend.

I think you need to be of a sufficient iq to understand the arguments put forward by Charlie Kirk….. seems a bit challenging for some?

I think an IQ of about 70 would be enough.

What a ludicrous claim! Is it supposed to be a joke?

Can you spin this quote for us ronib, because all I see from his own words here is misogyny?

Maybe we’re too thick to see what it was that he really meant!

Yeah obviously! Fickos of the world unite!

Interested in hearing the spin. (Not that I would imagine Taylor Swift took any notice. Just another sad git whose nose is put out of joint because one of the richest women in the world wouldn't even use him as a doormat.)

Start a new thread on Boris maybe? It’s nothing to do with this one.

Boris Johnson has plenty to do with it, along with the dismal 100,000 far-right demonstrators today in London.

Does it occur to you that people are in fact intelligent, understand his arguments and profoundly disagree with them, putting up equally sound alternatives themselves?

Once you call somebody stupid, you’ve confined yourself to the losing the argument box.

imaround Sat 13-Sept-25 17:46:06

So I am not stupid, just unsophisticated. Got it.

Thanks for your opinion.

Anniebach Sat 13-Sept-25 17:42:03

Peter guided us to Leviticus, Paul certainly said no, not all Christians study Leviticus. Reminds me of childhood and attending the Baptist Church, much celebrating on Palm Sunday, so quoting scripture is not easy

Galaxy Sat 13-Sept-25 17:36:00

I don't report if I can help it maremia, if I did the advocating stoning gays thing would be deleted as it has been on twitter.

Galaxy Sat 13-Sept-25 17:33:28

No I didn't refer to you, the advocating stone gay people has been repeated numerous times on this thread, I ignored it for quite a while, but I do find it homophobic, I think it is in some way using gay people.
