Charlie Kirk shot
(1001 Posts)Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

Same effect om me too
“They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.”
If the intention was to shut him up it could well have the exact opposite effect.

It is very sad and deplorable that a lone madman can shoot someone. I hope they catch the coward. I feel really sorry for his young family that they should have to endure this.
Some 120+ families a day endure their 'loved one' being shot and killed in the USA. We're not mourning them...
This guy defended the 'right to bear arms'. If you and your supporters agree that it's OK to live by the sword then they can't be surprised if you die by the sword.
There was another school shooting in America yesterday too I believe but it’s has received very little publicity

I didn't mean 'he deserved it' at all.
I feel sorry for his wife and children who witnessed it but I feel sorry for all the relatives of those 120+ Americans who are shot dead daily. We don't have long threads mourning them.
I can't lament the death of someone who supported the unfettered use of the weapon that killed him.

My daughters are not political so this morning one of them phoned me to have a word with my granddaughter.
It appears he is held up by youngsters as the new messiah so my granddaughter was upset.
I put her straight on his beliefs.
You obviously know nothing about Charlie Kirk.
Brilliant debater, interesting, factual
I didn't agree with some of his beliefs but that's really OK.
To put a grandchild straight on his beliefs is awful.
Hopefully they will just see you as being extremely out of touch
How predictable of Trump to blame lefty liberals. He may be right, of course, but nobody knows who did it at the moment.
As a few others have said, I feel sorry for the families of the 120+ American citizens who are killed by shooting, daily in the USA. Sadly, the family of this young man now adds to that number.
I also feel desperately sorry for the victims of the frequent school shootings that are a regular occurrence in the USA.
‘The right to bear arms’ has a great deal to answer for.
As an American, here's what I will say.
He was murdered on the same day as a school shooting and is getting more attention and sympathy than the victims of the school shooting. At the same time, he openly stated that deaths from gun violence were worth it to be able to own guns.
One person murdered him, and that person is the one who felt murder was an appropriate response. Some people not being sad about his death because of his views is not surprising but it also doesn't mean we support assassination as a response.
I have so much empathy fatigue from news about gun violence (that he felt was acceptable) so do forgive me for not giving two shits about him. If you want to use it to justify the conservative beliefs you clearly already held, then I hope you look at all cases of gun violence the same way. He was not any more important to his family than the many many many other victims of gun violence that he wasn't upset about.
That was a shocking post imaround.
What iamaround and user said
In June 2025, Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melsia Hortman and her husband Mark were also assassinated
Of course it did not get as much empathy and publicity as this, apart from two other gun related incidents that happened on 9/10
Clearly, all victims are not equal despite how much (or not) they support guns
But I will not mourn him. He was not a good person
Oh how CAN you say such a thing Iamaround. He probably was a good person he just had different political viewpoints to yourself is all.
We need to learn tolerance. This vicious polarisation in society is not good.
Personally, I didn't agree with any of his views...some snapshots that I saw of his speeches etc horrified me BUT what does frighten me even more, is seeing how toxic the Left / Right divide has become and his shooting will only be used to deepen it.
Let's be honest, the person responsible is simply a murderer!

Oops. Wrong thread. I’ll have it removed.
Mandelson or Charlie Kirk ?
Ok, thanks
No, if he had freedom of speech for his opinion, iamaround also has hers
Him saying Taylor Swift now has to submit to her future husband amd have ton of childre.is chauvinist. Who was he to impose his views on another person's life?
And how can you be so pro life but justify the death children to protect the second amendment?
What a contradiction

I agree that societies would benefit from being more tolerant. However, as I've got older I've realised that's not always so easy.
If a person really has strong values, should they let them be undermined by a call to be more tolerant? There are times when opposing values are incompatible, so something mire than tolerance is needed.
I've always tried to be tolerant (not always succeeded), but I have become less tolerant of intolerance. Charlie Kirk and Turning Point had intolerant views which I could never tolerate.
Nobody deserves to be murdered, but his death means just the same to me as all the many thousands of deaths by murder.

Awful! No one should be murdered, for any reason, certainly not for their views/beliefs/opinions
“It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment” [Charlie Kirk].
Isnt it a case of hoist by his own petard?
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
I did not agree with most of his views, however, condolences to his family.

Did you. I let my children have their own thoughts.
Unfortunately many are being influenced by Tik Tok and other sites which are full of people (men) with misogynist views and these people are very persuasive.
Kirk was one such person.
His death is shocking but, as a defender of the gun laws, not unexpected.
It is right that family who my have more moderate views should talk to their young family members about this insidious trend and show them alternative ways of thinking.
