Because they looked at what the other side has to offer and say, and made a choice.

But what is the choice? This is what totally mystifies me and I'm yet to see anyone giving a response, except "I am sure they knew why they were there". I still don't know why they were there. Comparing Tommy Robinson and Farage to Wat Tyler is IMO a bit of a joke, both TR and Farage are funded by wealthy people on the far right of politics, TR has received money from Elon Musk and Tristan Tate amongst others. Farage has received £5m from donors who represent businesses like fossil fuels, financial services, tax havens etc poor Wat Tyler must be turning in his grave! The poor and dispossessed should ask themselves if their modern day hero's are being funded by people who care absolutely nothing for the poor, what's in it for them?

Blimey! I wouldn't take my Watt Tyler analogy too seriously foxie, who knows whether he'd be turning in his grave how much was known about him anyway other than he led a revolt against the collection of an un-affordable poll tax, and well didn't history repeat itself on that score in the Thatcher years. Anyway moving on, I believe he wanted social and economic reform but given we can't transpose him to the right now and how he would react to our own ruling class, I was merely using his uprising against the strictures and intransigence of the time he lived in and that of our own deaf eared politicians.

Muslim parents were protesting outside a primary school not that long ago about homosexuality being spoken about in school.
Look it up if you don’t believe me.
But report my post if you like.
Not sure what you’d be reporting but go ahead.

LizzieDrip Sun 14-Sept-25 11:15:45

Annie you are aware that Tommy Robinson (Yaxley Lennon) and his ilk are antisemitic and Holocaust deniers? Jewish leaders in London recently asked for TR to not be allowed to join a march against anti semitism for this very reason. Am mystified by your responses for this reason

He hates Muslims; therefore he loves Jews?

I’m not accusing AB of this simplistic sort of thinking - just putting it out there.

When the Islamophobe has turned ‘enough’ citizens against Muslims, who will he hate next?

Food for thought isn’t it🤔

Kandinsky Sun 14-Sept-25 11:15:58

Schools across England have received letters opposing the teaching of relationships and sex education (RSE) and LGBT equality, the BBC has learned.
Protests started in Birmingham and letters, predominantly from conservative Muslims, have been sent to a number of schools elsewhere.
One campaigner said relationship lessons due to start in schools in 2020, external "proselytise a homosexual way of life".

Kandinsky Sun 14-Sept-25 11:16:19

There, I’ve done it for you.

Agree * Primrose* I didn’t like the questioning of the intelligence of those taking part

If you had read my response why ask me about antisemitism and the Holocaust?
I spoke of a poster who had questioned the I intelligence of those on the march

25 arrests yesterday. 890 arrests Action Palestine ,

It’s so wrong to say of all on the march yesterday ‘thought they were protesting about’, I am sure they knew why they were there

100,000 people on a peaceful protest yesterday. It was reported firstly that 9 people were arrested then later it said 25.
As you say nearly 900 arrested on Action Palestine. 400 at Notting Hill Carnival. Go figure that.

Whatever, It is extremely arrogant of people to suggest that they didn’t know why they were there! 🤣🤣

900 for Notting Hill is incorrect. I posted the figures for bothe events given by the BBC, yesterday.
When comparing like for like, I.e. the number of arrests per 150,00 (I used the higher figure given by the BBC) yesterday's march had the higher number.

Triumphal quoting of incorrect numbers is pointless.

"Tommy Robinson: Britain’s 21st century Wat Tyler" headlines in Conservative Woman, Kathy Gyngell

Really? I mean, really?? He's leading a peasant's rebellion? Well arguably it's better than bashing people at football matches, dealing coke and being in loads of debt (think he probably still is in loads of debt) and all the other nefarious activities he gets up to. If he is "speaking for the silent majority" we are in deep dire trouble. Politically we are in uncertain waters but I genuinely don't think the majority of us are in tune with TR. we are so much better than that and that is what makes me proud to be British.

Questioning the intelligence of people on a march is acceptable?

The elite have been defined as the ruling classes.

Yes, for now, but what does that mean? It's rather subjective, isn't it?

In Mao's China, the 'bourgeoisie' included schoolteachers, small employers and 'intellectuals' (another vague term that can be used to include pretty much anyone), and they were publicly humiliated and punished in the name of progress.

We are already hearing 'leftie' used as an insult. What does that mean in this context? Paid up members of the Communist Party? Anyone who's ever been in a union? Labour voters?

When people start picking off groups to persecute it is very easy to move from one to another, and people watching get scared to speak out in case they are next.

ronib Sun 14-Sept-25 11:35:46

Kathy Gyngell will write more about the protest tomorrow, having exhausted herself on the march.
TR made some good points - 9 million votes for Labour and 20 million no votes at the last election. Recent government policy now has given rights to those seeking to enter the UK which overrule the rights of the indigenous people. Basically immigration numbers are excessive.
Also for the huge crowd, arrests seem low.
I found the comments on Conservative Woman worth reading.

Well I didn't know about Kathy Gyngell's Wat Tyler reference when I alluded, I might add very tongue in cheek, to him. I won't say great minds think alike, because mine certainly ain't great and I've no idea who she is and what's going on in her brain. I'm not a Tommy Robinson fan or follower, I think he's a thug with very questionable motives. However, there is a feeling of discontent with the ruling class it's always been there as history so often informs us and there have always been those who have courageously put their neck on the line to galvanise a mass protest movement or cynically to manipulate a universal disquiet to the their own ends, which one could probably attribute to TR.

I'm thinking it's best to put Wat Tyler back to bed in the 14th century, given he was of his time and would probably be most perplexed as to 21st century deference to his bravery.

As someone married to a non Muslim - atheist - but a man who was born into a Muslim family, so we have Muslim members of the family and Muslim friends. Find it offensive that so many on here talk with open prejudice about a group of people they have judged by the few headline grabbing Islamic extremists. The majority of Muslims - and I really shouldn’t have to say this, it should be widely known - live among us and cause no problems whatsoever. Our grandchildren will sit next to them at school and make friends with them, they will be taught by teachers who are Muslim, Muslim parents will take part in fund raising events to support said school.
We work with them, buy stuff in their shops, and have them as neighbours, when we go to hospital we will be treated by Muslim doctors, and cared for by Muslim nurses. None of this will cause any of us any problems. These are ordinary people, obeying the laws, who see themselves as British and share the same values. Not two headed monsters inflicting Sharia law upon this country. They love their children the same, they want them to have a good education and many go on to have degrees, women as well as men, and become pillars of their community.
Those who hate Muslims the most should try meeting someone who us Muslim and actually talking to them.
They are human beings the same as all of us.
And if anyone had made any of the comments on this thread about Jewish people they would be shot down in flames for being antisemitic. Strangely the same response is not extended to Muslims.
Perhaps we need to think about that.

foxie48 Sun 14-Sept-25 11:54:43

TerriBull I hadn't seen the Conservative Woman headline until after I had replied to your post. I'm relieved that you think TR is a thug. I'm disappointed with current politicians but the thought of going on a march with the likes of TR fills me with horror, I'd rather slash my wrists with a rusty knife!
I still can't get anyone to tell me why people would follow him and at no point have I questioned either their intelligence or motivation, I'd just like to know how they think marching with TR brings either a more united Britain or shows their pride in being English but no one seems to know.

growstuff Sun 14-Sept-25 12:08:40

Babs03 I think you feel the same way as I do about my son-in-law and his family. They're just ordinary people!

Very low arrests considering the violence particularly the assaults on police.

growstuff Sun 14-Sept-25 12:19:57

Did TR actually say anything people didn't know already or of any importance?

It’s a real shame that we have to say this though.
And as I said the majority share the same values, a minority don’t, but then a minority of white English people don’t share the same values, they will commit crimes, rape, treat women like rubbish, and not fit in with their community.
Hatred against Muslims in this country is higher than it has ever been and marches like this will only fan the flames.

ronib Sun 14-Sept-25 12:28:54

How do you expect to know what TR said, if you don’t spend 8 minutes listening to his speech? growstuff
Your own value system/mores will then decide /decode the message.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 14-Sept-25 12:29:16

Has anyone seen Trevor Phillips (Sky TV this morning) take on the march?

theworriedwell Sun 14-Sept-25 12:32:44

Babs03 I was just reading BBC news and there is a report of a young Sikh woman raped on her way to work one morning. Rape wasn't enough, they (yes two big brave men) racially abused her.

I can't even express how upset I felt reading that. What has England become.

ronib Sun 14-Sept-25 12:36:00

GG13 do you refer to Peter Kyle’s free speech is alive and well in conversation with Trevor Phillips?

No it is just TP talking into the camera on breakfast news this morning.

With overhead videos it should be straightforward using AI to establish an accurate number of participants.

What is obvious to anyone who attends sports events is that 110 000 is a ridiculous underestimate!
