More than 100,000 people in central London have joined a march organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson

I ll say no more it’s devastating for this country

Nobody is asking you to GG13, but it's not up to you what others chose to bring to the thread.

Totally agree it’s not up to me

I can have an opinion on a post though, just like everyone else.

Agreed, although I sometimes feel some are trying to shut others down.

It is one if the most spiteful, nasty threads I have ever seen on Gransnet.

I hope this is not a portent of the future for the UK.
Hopefully not, because most of the people I know do not speak with vipers' tongues with such derision of those with a different point of view.
They are reasonable and thoughtful.

“I have no need to promote inclusivity and diversity, nor display it as a badge of honour, nor castigate others for not being so. I live my life quietly and respectfully towards all faiths, creeds and colours. I have no axes to grind.

Palestinian rent a gobs banging on about Gaza displaying flags ad nauseum in our capital city week after week.”
Bit contradictory that FGT confused?

Yes I agree MayBee bit of a silly thing to say! I just meant to point out about all the Palestinian flags every weekend really.
Oh well, it’s late, I’m tired and getting ready for bed.

*Wyllow's post was reasonable and thoughtful.

Are you trying to be deleted IOMgran. It is quite impressive in a bizarre way.

Not really but I am sure that would make you happy. Me being 'deleted' as you so beautifully put it.

Galaxy Sun 14-Sept-25 21:06:35

Posts are deleted on here if they break guidelines, that's how it is described on GN.

Galaxy Sun 14-Sept-25 21:08:06

Although I now have the cybermen from Dr Who in my head.

Or just dropped your guard?

We should not let a minority of people deter anyone from flying our flag. Its England we have a flag be proud of it. I am sick of police being injured in these demonstrations, throw the book at them, if it is not peaceful it shouldn't be allowed.
I look at some of the awful inciting comments on here and its not surprising we have problems.

Casdon Sun 14-Sept-25 21:44:50

I hope that was just a bad choice of words Allsorts, as nobody on this thread is inciting violent or unlawful behaviour, people are merely disagreeing with people with different perspectives.

Allira Sun 14-Sept-25 21:51:29

It isn't pleasant, though, reading posts declaring that the citizens of a certain town are generally feral, thugs and morons.

DH spent some time working there; that was not his experience.

Galaxy Sun 14-Sept-25 21:53:46

I think it is meant to provoke allira. I am sure that doesn't help you though.

Galaxy Sun 14-Sept-25 21:54:52

But obviously very inclusive and promoting diversity, the word moron.

Playing 'Top Trumps' is def more uplifting than many of the posts today. Just like any other aspect of a thread, you don't have to join in.

I am aware that I can scroll past

I just do not feel the need to tell the ethnicity of my friends to all.

You missed my point entirely.

I was giving an example of what people are missing by a narrow minded view of what Britishness is.

I was in just 2 days experiences going an example of why we should celebrate diversity. I also talked to my white Brit disabled friend who comes everyday for a swim (she had a brain episode years ago and has had to learn to talk)

Many olde friends (white) as it has become more diverse over the last 5/6 years, friends going back some of them nearly the same 20 years I've been going to the same gym. When you go to the gym 3/4 times a week for years you know loads of people, but it's now a delight to have maybe 12 different languages spoken?

It's near the uni as well as an Asian area also you can imagine the post grads? Chat in the Sauna with a Russian?

I really hope those hostile to my post or patronising get the point now.

It was reported in the Times Newspaper

Keir Starmer*: *We won’t allow flag to become symbol of violence

The PM’s comments came after....

Elon Musk told 110,000 Tommy Robinson protesters to fight back at Saturday’s far-right Unite the Kingdom march..

that led to 26 police injuries

Nothing to be proud about. My Britishness means being decent to others - what was decent about many in that crowd of demonstrators who were spewing hatred?

We don't live there, although DH worked there for a couple of years, surprisingly with professional people! 😁

What I failed to notice is that Ben Habib of Advance UK spoke at the TR event. Now that could be a clever way of hoovering up some votes? His new party is growing quite quickly and may split the Reform vote? If that’s any consolation. Ben Habib suggests an attendance of 500k on the march.

LizzieDrip Mon 15-Sept-25 07:54:45

“Police and experts estimate crowd size using several methods, including the Jacobs method (area x density), aerial photography, computer vision with AI algorithms, and estimating how long it takes for the entire crowd to pass a fixed point. Drones, satellites, and CCTV provide visual data, allowing for area measurement and density calculation to arrive at an approximate number.”

Using the above methods, police estimate that between 110k and 150k attended the TR march.

I suppose Ben Habib’s guess suggestion will be more accurate though🤔

ronib Mon 15-Sept-25 08:00:02

Richard North of Turbulent Times suggests in a very convoluted way a figure of 200,000.

Kathy Gynell in Conservative Woman has published her account of the day. A great effort from a 75 year old.

foxie48 Mon 15-Sept-25 08:42:21

I've skip read Gyngell's article, tbh I didn't find it impressive regardless of her age ( I'm the same age!). The list of people who she met on the match was enough to tell me all I needed to know. Lauding the likes of Katie Holmes, Dan Whooton, Norman Fenton, John Campbell etc and the pic of her cuddling up to TR tells me that she's not a journalist interested in reporting the unbiased truth of what she sees.
By all means read her report if you are committed to far right politics disguised as something else ( well, whatever gets you worked up but being anti all immigration is good for starters) and you'll get a satisfying hit of dopamine. She estimates 500k were there, I was in that area the previous Saturday and tbh it was hellishly busy then but no way could I have estimated numbers of visitors as I didn't have my drone with me.
She's very keen on TR , apparently he's authentic, modest, engaging and funny, not bitter or angry. I'm all for the rehabilitation of criminals but wasn't he recently arrested on an assault charge but there was insufficient evidence to charge him. Anyway we're innocent until found guilty in the UK, unless of course you're an asylum seeker.

foxie48 Mon 15-Sept-25 09:00:43

Apology to Katie Holmes, I of course meant Katie Hopkins!

ronib Mon 15-Sept-25 09:10:08

I read that TR is due for trial in October 2026 for some incident involving two Daily Mail journalists.
His financial backers seem to be in the USA. Interesting that Ben Habib attended and spoke. Wonder how Farage will spin this?

LizzieDrip Mon 15-Sept-25 09:18:06

Yes, and until the Human Rights Act is abolished by Farage et al.

I don’t think knowing the accuracy of numbers attending the protests at the weekend matter, it was a lot. Far more than I thought would turn out and I was surprised to see the Scottish Saltire and the Welsh dragon flags amongst the St George Cross and the Union flags. Some people had come a long way to London.A shame that some had to be angry and violent but there are always a few of those on marches, they go on it to enjoy the anarchy aspect.
Generally speaking for such a huge crowd it was good natured.

Free speech & courteous debate is to be welcomed on here. ✔️

Is that what you saw at the Tommy Robinson/Elon Musk Rally?

One wants to destroy our way of life and turn it into a real life dystopian Gilead, the other wants to control the world by owning as much as possible physically.

Which are you hoping for FriedGreenTomatoes2?

ronib Mon 15-Sept-25 09:36:18

Exactly what are you referring to DAR?
Any concrete evidence?

I saw that as very necessary - having Scottish and Welsh flags there for instance. Necessary to make it plain - this isn't just England speaking...it's the whole of Britain.
