This must be a sad day for England

More than 100,000 people in central London have joined a march organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson

I ll say no more it’s devastating for this country

“And it’s really scary that Sharia courts are allowed in England they should be banned!”

And this is the level of debate we have been reduced to. Open Islamophobia parading as justified indignation. The fact that most Muslims in this country have nothing whatsoever to do with Sharia law will obviously make no inroads.
And this will be the calibre of mist who are on this racist March.
Disgusting.

How do you know that “most Muslims in this country have nothing to do with Sharia law”??

There are unofficial Sharia councils in this country and many fear that they are discriminatory towards women.

Do you really have to be so nasty???

It’s like Groundhog Day on here recently.
Everyday, the same people saying the same things.

Poster A) ‘Yay! Fly the flags’

‘Poster B). Racist!’

That’s basically all you get.

Thankfully we have at least 2 people who actually have lived experience and know what they are talking about.

Lived experience of what exactly?

Kandinsky yep, it’s a merrygoround with the merry bit😄

StripeyGran Sat 13-Sept-25 17:10:45

I like facts. Let's share some on Sharia Law perhaps?

Kandinsky Sat 13-Sept-25 17:11:17

grin every thread on this subject is literally identical!

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 13-Sept-25 17:11:25

I understand that the patriot " getting our country back " Mr Yaxley Lennon lives and pays his taxes abroad.

Aveline Sat 13-Sept-25 17:12:39

Ask yourselves what has provoked the Islamophobia? Something has. We have many people of other faiths and religions here but who do not make such demands or make such provocative statements as some Muslim groups do but just quietly get on with living.
This Yaxley Lennon person is not very impressive but he's certainly struck a nerve with many, many people no matter how much opprobrium is piled on him.

As usual the crowd is turning nasty.
If this is what people are proud of they need to have a good few words with themselves.

Actually the police have had to put up with suchlike behaviour from pro Palestine protesters too, even just last week, they were spat on and shoved and jeered at with the most awful insults.
Just to be clear.

Bingo! Knew it wouldn't be long.

Pathetic.

Just to be very very clear

I do wonder what your problem is StripeyGran as you are so aggressive.
I have stated facts, you may not like them.🤔

I humbly suggest you have never come across real aggression, if you think that post is aggressive.

Name-calling is never praiseworthy.

Oreo Sat 13-Sept-25 17:13:57

It’s a wake up call for the government in case they haven’t yet got the message that immigration in the UK is out of control.

westendgirl Sat 13-Sept-25 17:14:09

I don't find Stripey Gran aggressive, but quite down to earth and realistic.
Waterloo Sunset, I too am sorry and am ashamed that you should have to feel that way, but thank you for speaking out.

Some people can't cope with differences. Some aren't very good at ownership of problems, so link for scapegoats. There are many reasons; few of them are rational.

StripeyGran Sat 13-Sept-25 17:15:18

it is a very sad day and the future is of concern. I am a person of colour, I've lived in this country for over 65 years

This poster had lived experience. Hope that helps.

No more from me, I'm sick of it.

Aveline Sat 13-Sept-25 17:15:19

So it's irrational to have different opinions?

growstuff are you aware of the aggressive spread of Islam in African countries? Boko Haram among others. How about the attempt to take over the schools in Birmingham? The mass prayers taking over while streets. How are people supposed to just accept that in their towns and cities? There was absolutely bound to be a backlash.

Aha! So immigration = Islam on your book. Could that be a clue as to why so many people are paranoid about immigration?

Immigration doesn’t mean Islam in my book, where did you get that from?
Immigrants are from many faiths and none.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 13-Sept-25 17:21:11

At the moment in the UK we have the freedom to march (protest) many other countries haven’t got this freedom.

Maremia Sat 13-Sept-25 17:21:18

Is 'opprobrium' a posh word for convictions? I believe that Stephen Yaxley Lennon has convictions for financial and immigration frauds, cocaine possession with intent to supply, and has served 5 prison terms.

It is on Gransnet it appears.

Whole streets like this one in London

Whole streets like this one in London

How is this allowed??

Aveline Sat 13-Sept-25 17:35:27

It is allowed. No wonder people are uncomfortable about it.

Free speech & courteous debate is to be welcomed on here. ✔️

Only by some, unfortunately. Others take every chance to deride and contradict posters, as I found to my cost recently!

Or a joyous reminder of what it is to be British. An amazing sight. Families, young and old, peacefully protesting. Lots and lots of women are there, I notice and not a few black people, too.
And thousands upon thousands of flags.
🇬🇧

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Such a marvellous sight of people joining together to express huge dissatisfaction in the way the country is heading.

Maremia Sat 13-Sept-25 17:43:59

The small group of antifascists are hemmed, in with far right groups on every side. They are now dancing to 'Lose yourself to dance' and are in high spirits.
Meanwhile clashes are continuing between the 'Unite the Kingdom' marchers and police, with fireworks and other projectiles being hurled at the police.

Jennerdysphoria Sat 13-Sept-25 17:44:11

Jeremy Corbyn drew massive crowds. Didn't mean much in the end.
