Hope it worked out for them, petra,

Yes he is Babs; trouble is he's the stuff of nightmares for the rest of us.

Maremia Sun 21-Sept-25 17:40:41

Well that is very new foxie. Democrats don't have the power just now, but yes, a big shift.

DH points out that the way has been cleared for the UK to lend money to the Palestinians and to sell them weapons.
Of course, why didn’t I think of that?

Maremia Sun 21-Sept-25 18:02:07

Do you think that will be likely? The selling weapons bit.

ronib Sun 21-Sept-25 18:04:09

We’ll know soon enough? I hope my DH is wrong.

Thought how it will get into Gaza? Who holds the keys?

Actually I don’t know why I’m even given consideration to this😄😄

People have been trying to support the Palestinians for ages, have they not, sending food and medical supplies. Think the problem has been that this international support has not been allowed to get in.
Sending money is not a problem, it's already a practice.
Selling munitions and weapons to either side, now that's the real issue.

Or maybe Hamas can get weapons in through Egypt and into the tunnels in Gaza, as provided by Iran? Easy?

Maremia Sun 21-Sept-25 18:42:41

Isn't that how it has been, so nothing new. Still worrying, but not anything to do with the 'recognition'.

Babs03 Sun 21-Sept-25 19:18:51

Oh dear have been deleted. Was only joking ronib, about your husband, thought it was a fairly mild joke.
Apologies if it was taken the wrong way.

ronib Sun 21-Sept-25 19:20:03

Actually I thought you were on the money … Babs03

Babs03 Sun 21-Sept-25 19:23:45

Well glad to know you weren’t offended.
Somebody else must have been though.
Goodness am sure I have posted more robust comments.
Anyway onward and upward.

Starmer has formally announced that the U.K. recognises the State of Palestine.

I just think religion has some much to answer for, & not in a good way.

foxie48 Mon 22-Sept-25 07:38:56

I don't think its religion per se that's the problem it's the way the teachings and tenets are interpreted and used to create division and aid control.

So much

Mt61 Mon 22-Sept-25 08:34:14

Yes you are right foxie48. It’s the way people use it to control the masses.

The UK has warned Israel not to take retaliatory action after Palestine being recognised as a state.
Israel have said they will annexe the west bank and will probably do this as they carry on their plan to remove all Palestinians from Gaza.

Religion and faith are and have been a positive force since ancient times and you will never be able to remove it from humanities search for meaning.

It is the tying of religion and state together that causes the problem, where power is abused and faith becomes distorted.

The issue for Zionism is that it tied itself physically to a territory on which both Jews and Muslims has been living side by side for hundreds of years.

When the issue of land ownership is introduced then this is nothing to do with religion but everything to do with dominance and control.

Most Jews on this planet live outside the state of Israel and are not Zionists.

foxie48 Mon 22-Sept-25 09:24:55

It's also linked to our misunderstanding of other religions. Many of the customs that certain groups have adopted do not have their roots in a particular religion, they have their roots in a patriarchal society which at different times in history have been used in most societies including our own.

foxie48 Mon 22-Sept-25 09:28:34

"It is the tying of religion and state together that causes the problem, where power is abused and faith becomes distorted"

This, of course, is what Christian Nationalism is all about in the US and it is incredibly destructive to social cohesion in a multi faith country like America. Frankly, I believe white supremacy is deeply embedded in this movement.

Babs03 Mon 22-Sept-25 10:30:40

It isn’t about religion that is a man made construct to control the masses, is about men, power, and greed, which breeds inhumanity.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 22-Sept-25 10:46:41

So the Palestinian State being recognised by the U.K. is the 1967 agreement, which includes Gaza and West Bank.
