Sunni v Shia?

Maremia Wed 17-Sept-25 18:44:12

The four Arab countries in the Abraham Accords have supported Israel, ronib.
How many Arab countries has Israel attacked?

ronib Wed 17-Sept-25 19:36:17

Maremia according to the internet, Lebanon, Syria,Tunisia, Qatar and Yemen have all had some form of attack by Israel. Unlikely that it was random?

Heart breaking poem read by Benedict Cumberbatch given at the OVO in support of Gaza.

Smotrich has stated that it has been agreed between Israeli government and Trump to turn Gaza into a real-estate bonanza. This is theft on a massive scale.

What will happen to the Palestinians?

AGAA4 Thu 18-Sept-25 11:21:25

They will be put into concentration camps and Trump has said he will urge them to move out of Gaza.

It's so hard to watch this happening to a whole people by those who have wanted this land from the start.

We must never forget what Israel has done to the innocent women and children of Gaza.

Grantanow Thu 18-Sept-25 13:53:44

And we must never forget what was done to millions of innocent Jews by Nazi Germany and to present-day Israelis by Hamas, not to mention the persecution of the Jews in history by the Catholic church and Chrustian kings, the pogroms on Eastern Europe and the Soviets.

Anniebach Thu 18-Sept-25 13:57:52

So true Grantanow, all those centuries of persecution of Jews must never be forgotten or dismissed

Smileless2012 Thu 18-Sept-25 14:03:49

A history of being persecuted doesn't excuse becoming the ones who persecute.

Grantanow

Absolutely. We rightly remember, and should always be vigilant

But of course this is about a government committing genocide, on an innocent population and that is why we should never forget what was done to the Jews - another innocent population.

To deny is to be complicit in the atrocities

Babs03 Thu 18-Sept-25 14:17:10

What happened to the Jews throughout history is terrible and I don’t think anyone will forget or dismiss this.
But this has no bearing on the present situation in Gaza which is all about politics, power, greed, and inhumanity, resulting in genocide.

Then again there are some similarities with the current situation and what has happened to Jews historically but with Palestinians being massacred.

Anniebach Thu 18-Sept-25 14:32:23

So not true, 1948 Israeli becomes a State , the first and only country where
Jews can be/feel safe, 1948 5 Arab countries declared war on Israel, this is fact

Babs03 Thu 18-Sept-25 14:33:24

Ok Annie.

undines Thu 18-Sept-25 14:34:48

What happened to the Jews in the Second World War has nothing to do with this, for goodness sake. Since when did two wrongs make a right? And how many Jews actually want this genocide? I understand they have been out in the streets protesting. Zionism is an ideology and is distinct from the welfare of Israelis. There is absolutely no excuse, not the slightest, for this unbelievably vile thing that is going on, in front of the entire world, who is doing NOTHING. The concentration camps and the terrible cruelty towards Jews (and not only Jews, let's remember) was at least not discovered till the end of the war. But we all know about this. It's just unbelievable and shows the true state of our 'civilisation'.

So sad, when the victim becomes the abuser.

Churchill knew of the Holocaust, no country knew of the persecution of Jews in Europe ? no one noticed Jews being forced to wear ‘The Jewish Badge’ ?

During the Nazi era, German authorities reintroduced the Jewish badge as a key element in their plan to persecute and eventually to destroy the Jewish population of Europe. They used the badge not only to stigmatize and humiliate Jews but also to segregate them and to watch and control their movements. The badge also facilitated deportation.
Nazi propaganda minister Josef Goebbels was the first to suggest a "general distinguishing mark" for German Jews in a memorandum in May 1938. Security Police chief Reinhard Heydrich reiterated the idea at a November 12, 1938, meeting convened by Herman Göring following Kristallnacht. In both cases no immediate action was taken.

Grantanow Thu 18-Sept-25 14:47:44

It's not true that the Nazi persecution of the Jews was unknown till the end of WW2. It was written about, Jewish refugees talked about it and the UK government considered bombing the death camps. It is true that some other groups were persecuted including gypsies and Catholics but in far smaller numbers than the Jews.

In my view the history does have a bearing on the present. We know that those who gave been abused in childhood are more likely to become abusers. If the world had treated the Jews better, especially after WW2, things might be different.

There has been no court of law declaring genocide in Gaza,

Maremia Thu 18-Sept-25 14:53:11

There was no court of law declaring genocide of the Jews in Hitler's Germany, but still it happened.

Essexgirl145 Thu 18-Sept-25 14:57:55

Took them a long time to work that out, it's been obvious from the beginning what they were doing and the world looked on. I am ashamed, really ashamed of the human race.

Essexgirl145 Thu 18-Sept-25 15:03:00

Sorry Grantanow.......that excuse is past it's sell by date. It's evident now why the Germans did what they did. I have had a lot of nasty things done to me in my life which I would never want anyone else to experience and losing everything is one of them. I am with Palestine on this.
