There is a theory - that was expounded at length in yesterdays papers - that Putin is deliberately playing up in Eastern Europe to get our heads "turned the other way" whilst his buddy pal in China invades Taiwan (just as he's been wanting to for some time). Quite some detail was given - and it sounded all too possible that this is what is going on right now - ie a game of "Distract Nato to suit China".

Then we'll throw into the mix that Pakistan has given access to its nukes to Saudi Arabia and I'm there thinking "I guess it could only get much worse if aliens invaded wholesale - thinks now about that comet/or is it that's up there right now?"

Feels almost like "Might as well go back to bed and hide under the bedclothes.....as it all feels a bit threatening on Earth right now..." Gives myself another lecture on "You must have been out of your head Cariad to decide to get born on this planet back in the 1950s. Bad judgement or what....." as I personally think "Can I manage to get through the remaining 10 years I've got due here without anything else bad cropping up - either nationally or personally?"

It’s not a theory it’s exactly why the US does not want to get in a serious confrontation with Russia, it’s not Trump, his military advisors are telling him don’t get involved in a fight over Ukraine because China will be drawn in and escalate tensions in the pacific.

The top military have always indicated that this is not something that they can get involved in because it is political, and nothing to do with defence of the realm.

Fast-tracking the introduction of universal identity cards in the UK would be a far better use of time and money.
The ability to live under the radar without documents is why many people seek to enter the UK.

Why don't we? Because we are not at war with these people, however inconvenient it is that they are on our doorstep asking for help, that is why,

Well - I've heard that outdated phrase of "Wash your mouth out with soapy water" that I gather used to be used back along for children swearing.

Feels inclined to resurrect and adapt that phrase to "Wash your mind out with soapy water" said to them.

Or - the more modern take - telling them to "give their head a wobble". If this isn't "defence of the realm" then I'd like to know just what they do consider to be said defence.

Would they personally really sit there in their own little personal homes and say "That's okay....anyone can walk in and make themselves at home in our garden....even walk in and make themselves at home in our house" and refuse to defend themselves? Followed by "Oh well - now you've broken in to our country - bring in your family as well" and we're now having every type of accommodation there is given over to others - hotels, student housing, nursing housing, the over 55 year old man that has managed to live here for over 20 years and apparently still doesnt speak much English - but knows enough to say "I'm bringing my family in too".

About the only type of accommodation that seems sacrosanct at the moment is mansions and royal palaces.....hmmm. Shall we look forward to Buckingham Police being turned over to them? Fair's fair after all - if we can lose our ordinary little homes -then so should they all....

The Government tinkered around the edges of this problem earlier this year, bringing through new rules in a rush, thus causing problems for people who wished to come here for a short visit then return home again. It has done nothing to solve the current problem.

Some of it is a private home - the Queen certainly spent plenty of time living there and King Charles has other accommodation....so could make some "personal" space there free.

After all - lots of other people "work" from home these days - so that's many of the offices free too if they chose to.

But - nope - it's those of us that are "ordinary people in the street" that are being expected to "budge up and make room".

I mention it because it was rushed through as a knee-jerk reaction to a minor problem and caused difficulties for people who were visiting here. Yes, maybe irrelevant to most, but it is long-term strategies we need, not sudden decisions which make little or no difference in the long-term.

I am very tired of this notion that we are being invaded and are under thread. It’s Reform/Yaxley Lennon/Trump/Musk nonsense framed deliberately to create hysteria.

If 50,000 people arrived on small boats this year and half have their asylum claims accepted that’s just 25,000 people. I will confine my remarks to those as that is what the opening post is about, not about people allegedly going under the radar.

There are 1,100 medium to large towns and cities in the UK. A medium town has a population of between 25,000 and 59,999. A medium town has a population of between 60,000 and 174,999.

I am not counting small towns and villages of which there are around 7,000 with populations under 25,000.

If those newly-accepted migrants were dispersed evenly throughout the UK, it would only be 22 new residents per place. It’s more likely they would be dispersed proportionately but however it happens it’s barely going to make a dent.

600,000 people die every year, freeing up resources. In England alone there are a million homes sitting long term empty. We have space for more people. This notion that we have to budge up is ridiculous. More than half of my near neighbours are migrants. They simple move into houses that other people vacate through death, job moves, moves to be nearer family, upsizing, downsizing - all the usual reasons. I have not had to budge up.

Lucykgirl is right. We need to grow up. This constant hysteria over migration is clouding other far more important issues. I am not dismissing irregular migration as unimportant but it’s been blown out of all proportion for political gain by parties who have no answers either. It’s a global issue that needs global solutions. Do any of the keyboard warriors here have one that is legal and wouldn’t involve a declaration of war?

One point is that there is a far higher number of people who are here illegally and may have disappeared into the black economy or are run by OCG gangs than those who arrive each year by small boat.

Possibly your neighbours arrived here by legal routes and are working here and, if they have, they have presumably bought their homes.

The pro migrants always resort to using language that they hope will irritate or upset those who hold different views.

It is meaningless nastiness.

Because I am tired of the daily ranting posts that criticise, criticise and criticise some more without offering any legal solutions.

And who says that someone coming here now won't work and buy their home eventually given a chance? There is nothing wrong with renting either. People have to start somewhere if only someone would give them a chance. We have a huge list of skill shortages particularly in construction - jobs that fit young men can do or be trained to do.

For the record. I volunteer with two refugee agencies, teaching English, helping migrants find accommodation, training places and work. I don't regard migrants as my enemy but a valuable human resource that this country needs.

And yes, there are illegal activities going on. They have always gone on. Organised crime is not and has never been confined to people from other nations.

We are not in two factions on here - pro-immigration -v- anti-immigration although your post might try to infer that.

PaynesGrey I've been finding your posts interesting and informative in the main. Please don't resort to calling those who hold different views hysterical, immature, ranting (like some people do), or your posts will be clouded by unpleasantness and lose their substance.

Be careful about condemning migrants in case you ever need care. I visited an elderly relative with advanced dementia in her care home. Barely a white face in sight and no British accents at all just very kind caring people doing a brilliant job that British people don't seem to want to do.
