Most people[as far as I know] are not talking about the ones here legally.
They are needed.

Personally, I do not want care given by an illegal migrant.
They arrived here illegally.
I would not trust any of them to give me care or anything else.

I think, (and hope), that if I were to express my concerns on immigration face to face with some of those who disagree with me most on here, that we might have a more meaningful discussion. And likewise, if they were to speak in a calm and respectful manner, as I assume they would to me in person, that I might stop and think more about their comments on immigration too.

Tapping opinions behind a keyboard often makes everyone seem more aggressive and confrontational. Obviously we can't on GN, but engaging in constructive dialogue tête-a-tête would ensure that both sides - because sides is what it amounts to - might fight less and be less hostile. It certainly couldn't be worse than what goes on online.

I have many heated discussions with my French friends over here, (about each country's flaws), but often we say things with humour in our eyes or gestures to lighten what could become unpleasant. I think it would come across very differently on a keyboard.

You realise that some are legally allowed to stay once their claim is verified. How would you know how they arrived, they dont have a scarlet letter on their forehead.

Fast-tracking the introduction of universal identity cards in the UK would be a far better use of time and money.
The ability to live under the radar without documents is why many people seek to enter the UK.
Why don't the people who are so concerned about immigration campaign a bit harder?

The number of undocumented people in the UK is estimated at between 700,000 and 900,000 according to Full Fact.
Farage claims that there are far more.

The Government tinkered around the edges of this problem earlier this year, bringing through new rules in a rush, thus causing problems for people who wished to come here for a short visit then return home again. It has done nothing to solve the current problem.

Just to be clear Allira I am talking about universal ID cards, the same requirement for the entire population, as is the case for almost all of Europe.
I think there is some discussion of digital ID for the UK at the moment.

Some payments do get tracked, but smugglers are on top of their game with methods of money laundering. It's one reason that international co-operation is needed and the UK would be doing itself no favours if it could no longer be trusted as a state which followed international laws.

What evidence do you have for that claim?

The National Crime Agency spends significant amounts of money tracking these networks, but it's not the child's play people on here seem to think it is. People smugglers are part of highly sophisticated networks and they're not stupid.
