Well what an address!
I agree with every word.
We have been warned, I just hope it’s not too late.

I think its become such a problem for the asylum seekers as the length of time they spend in hotels is quite ridiculous. It’s the main thing the government needs to do, speeding up processing the claims.

One family said they had been here for eight years, had two asylum claims rejected and were waiting on a third.
Since the, they have had at least one more child here.

Speed up? The process is slower than a snail heading for a bed of lettuces.
In the meantime, the parents are in limbo but the children are attending school here and know nothing else.

StripeyGran Thu 25-Sept-25 10:27:09

I'm sorry but it's not right at all. Some sort of protein, salad and rice would appeal to most. It's not hard.
It could very easily be set up.

A head chef who oversees the process, trains up helpers and so on.

Treat people like people. Give them hope, dignity and purpose.
Not going to happen though.

Different countries have all sorts of food preferences don’t they?
Yes, any shared kitchen can cause problems, if you imagine the amount of people in the hotels you can imagine arguing and all sorts happening.
A hotel wouldn’t allow this in any case, it has to be a hygienic place with rules and only kitchen staff and chefs allowed the use of it.

I know you're right for all kinds of reasons, but it does seem a pity and it is dangerous for families to be cooking like that in their rooms.
Where is Health and Safety when they're needed?

Can you imagine any hotels response if we were abroad and started cooking a full english on a camping stove in the bathroom…

I'm not sure that a protein, rice and salad would be acceptable on a daily basis.

We'd be told to leave pdq!

Despite all his hate speech and cruelty, towards some of his countrymen, Trump wants the Nobel Peace Prize. I think he would have more of a change going for the Literature prize, as most of what he says and posts is fiction.

Let’s face it he was just saying what some of us of a certain age are thinking.

Nothing he ever says ever reflects what I think!

Btw, does that lovely American lady who kept us all informed still post on here? I’ve forgotten her GN name?

Maremia Thu 25-Sept-25 11:03:29

imaround still posts but Gundy USA seems to have gone.

Magenta8 Thu 25-Sept-25 11:05:52

Trump says so much that by the law of averages he is bound to say the odd thing that has some truth in it but most of what he spouts is incoherent, misguided, ill informed garbage.

The lunatics have taken over the asylum. Trump is dangerously unhinged and he and his merry men should be stopped before they do any more damage.

Sorry I don't see the connection between a holiday costing many thousands of pounds with delicious food on tap and a traumatised person living in a repurposed Hotel in the UK?

FranP Thu 25-Sept-25 14:12:40

He has a very dangerous mix of common sense and outrageous nonsense and no filter.
He is no politician, but he has changed US economics from "lets run the world", to US first, is pulling up the drawbridge that has allowed the world's problems to be managed by the US. I remains to be seen if that works.

I can see that supporting US industry and agriculture is a potentially valid tactic, given that the UK destroyed its coal & steel by allowing subsidised cheap imports, destroyed its fishing and dairy, by allowing the EU to set quotas that disadvantaged us.

Immigration policy is a sledgehammer though, given the amount of unused derelict towns and available land, but they do have a vast problem with illegal immigration, which disadvantages the legals, and introduces a vast number of children outside of the school and health systems; it also drives down wage levels.

I can’t believe what I’ve just read.

Seriously?😧

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 25-Sept-25 14:28:46

But… but! I read something that implied those mishaps were nothing to do with the UN! The USA bring their own teleprompter and one of trump’s photographers accidentally pushed the stop button on the escalator. If that had been the Obamas or the Bush Jrs, there would have been hilarity when they had to walk up the escalator.

Same Casdon.

Apparently the minor technical glitches at the UN were “three sinister events” according to T.

Do you think paranoia might be setting in🤔

Oreo Thu 25-Sept-25 14:37:50

Tbh after reading your link Casdon it does sound as if some deliberate sabotage could have been in play there.
The escalator stopped after Melania and Trump stepped onto it and the other matters sound a bit strange too.
It says that there was a joke in the London papers about his visit to the UN and how staff may switch off the escalator.
Glitches can happen, but three! And just to Trump.
Could well be more to this than meets the eye.

Oreo Thu 25-Sept-25 14:38:55

The UN say there will be an investigation into it.

AGAA4 Thu 25-Sept-25 14:48:35

There was a report that a photographer was going up the escalator backwards trying to film Trump and may have caused the escalator to stop for safety reasons.
It was the US who were in charge of the teleprompter so not the fault of the UN.
Trump making a big issue over nothing. My mum would have called him "a big girl's blouse" in less politically correct times.

Oreo Thu 25-Sept-25 14:55:26

Possibly better to wait for the outcome of the investigation but as Trump told the UN they were useless I guess they won’t try too hard.

Allira Thu 25-Sept-25 16:27:34

'Amazing that Melania & I didn’t fall':
Says Trump

I didn't think he'd even stepped on to it.
Melania just strode up but I suppose he is getting on a bit

AGAA4 Thu 25-Sept-25 16:47:47

They had only gone up by a few steps and it didn't come to a juddering halt as it was going quite slowly. No need for all the hysterics. There was no chance of him and Melania being catapulted backwards.

Cooking in a hotel bathroom and blocking the smoke detector is not acceptable in any circumstances, it is a genuine health and safety hazard on multiple levels.

Yes, I think that is the connection, GrannyGravy!

It is utterly foolish and dangerous,

Yup. So is SERCO staff stealing from people, playing spin the bottle to decide who goes where, swearing and berating people and telling them their children don't need school, demanding sexual favours, barging into rooms unannounced, roughing people up. Oh and refusing to provide sanitary wear.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:15:34

StripeyGran I am no fan of SERCO however, can you substantiate your claims?

StripeyGran Thu 25-Sept-25 17:32:48

Yes.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:40:01

StripeyGran

Yes.

Perhaps you could give us a link so we can see for ourselves, otherwise it is just anecdotal.
