This is a "short" from Sky News.

Swans are probably delicious, as they often featured in medieval banquets.
Has anyone ever tried to go near a swan? Even an injured one could break your arm.
Farage has no respect for this followers, feeding them such drivel.

Bukkie Thu 25-Sept-25 15:45:01

The asylum seekers are eating swans from the parks in Hull and fishing and eating the carp from the ponds.
Ed Davey is a complete buffoon with his stupid gimmicks and nonsense. Reform certainly isn't a one man party and virtually everyone I spoke to on a recent holiday had voted Reform in recent elections.

Oreo Thu 25-Sept-25 15:48:19

Was that reported in Hull newspapers Bukkie ? Depending on the country asylum seekers hail from it’s entirely possible they see it as ‘fair game’. What happened to them, were they caught?

DaisyAnneReturns Thu 25-Sept-25 16:19:51

It seems to have come back because Nick Ferrari had a bet with Farage that it wasn't true. Now Farage is refusing to pay up (there's a suprise) and is saying it's up to Farrari to prove it didn't happen. As you can't prove a negative and he should be able to prove his case, if true, Farage is just showing us his normal behavior.

If you want to find out more about why politicians make these outrageous claims - not as straightforward as we may assume - Phil Moorhouse has made a video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUoSPALgbnM

Well, I'll be sure to take your opinion/posts as gospel, Bukkie.

Didn't Farage say that asylum seekers were killing and eating swans? However would they manage that?

I do know of that actually happening. The swan was shot.

New Statesman video www.youtube.com/watch?v=34UKKQgVEKc Labour is losing votes to the Lib Dems. It's also a review of the conference.

Thanks for the link DAR. A very clever analyisis from Phil M. And look at what has happened? We have ended up talking about swans rather than NF’s jibe at Davey’s mental state. Perhaps we should get back to that rather than give more oxygen to a fake story.

Bukkie Thu 25-Sept-25 16:45:19

It was in the Hull Daily Mail and on regional news.

I understand that swan isn't particularly nice to eat...

I've never tried it 😁

The cooked swan incident was twelve years ago in 2013.
Yes, I thought it was a long time ago and it was Eastern Europeans who were blamed, I think.

Right, then, any good suggestions for a new name for Farage's new party when Reform implodes?

I understand that swan isn't particularly nice to eat...

Very popular on the dinner tables in Tudor times I seem to recall?

keepingquiet Thu 25-Sept-25 16:51:49

Why is this even a story?

Stop giving Frarage the air to breathe...

Allira Thu 25-Sept-25 16:51:53

The Royal Parks Authority say it’s not true, and if anybody would know, surely it would be them? Swans are protected birds, so if there was any evidence at all they would be onto it.

Mute Swans belong to the Crown.

You can catch carp and take them away if they are under a certain size.

I know, but even so, I have read somewhere that they're not particularly nice to eat.

Being a wild waterfowl, swans generally have darker, tougher meat compared to domesticated poultry bred for tender meat. Their muscles get more exercise from flying and swimming than chickens in a coop. As a result, their meat has a dense, chewy texture which requires slow moist cooking to become tender. The taste and texture is not as palatable as chicken, duck or goose for most consumers.

There is a video on YouTube ‘Migrants in London Catch a Goose’ from 2 months ago. someone followed the migrants into a lift and filmed the goose in their bag
It is happening

Casdon Thu 25-Sept-25 17:09:40

A goose is not a swan sundowngirl. Brits do it too, a doctor was caught by the police deliberately knocking down and killing a sheep on the Pennines to cut up for his freezer when I worked up there - it was the talk of the hospital for weeks.

sundowngirl Thu 25-Sept-25 17:17:42

Casdon - I know a goose is not a swan but is it not still illegal?

And I'll try to avoid whatever kind of holiday it was because I don't think I'd like the company. hmm

So true!

Casdon Thu 25-Sept-25 17:27:59

I think it probably is illegal to kill wild birds without a licence sundowngirl, but you can definitely legally shoot geese at some times of the year. A lot of illegal wild bird and animal killing still happens in the UK unfortunately.

growstuff Thu 25-Sept-25 17:29:45

Ed Davey's speech didn't bypass Farage because it caused a reaction. It seems to me that Labour is pussyfooting around Reform - and even trying to outdo them - rather than attacking them head on. I happen to think Davey was absolutely spot on, so more of the same please, Ed!

MG55 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:29:59

Well done Ed Davey!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:31:17

I just wish Ed Davey would stop all of his silly antics then I could take him more seriously.

MG55 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:31:25

Well said Ed Davey!
