Thoughts with all those affected. Quietly attending their place of worship for prayer and reflection on this, the holiest day in the calendar for the Jewish community.

Despicable and disgusting.

As for the Manchester incident - awful, just completely and totally awful.

AGAA4 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:08:50

Mosques have been attacked too.

Ziplok Thu 02-Oct-25 15:10:19

It seems to me that some people judge all Muslims to be terrorists. That is absolute rot. As with all groups of people, the vast majority are decent, law abiding citizens. I really dislike this racism.

It’s Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Manchester has the second largest Jewish community to London. I’m hurt and angry for the community. I know from friends how increasingly anxious people in this north Manchester area .
Prayers

That is what I was going to say.

I think Himself was just expressing his horror at the attacks on the Jewish community. Needing security is beyond unacceptable he said.

The Southport riots took place immediately outside the town’s mosque.

Quite FGT2, no place of worship should need security, but it is clear that they do.
It was the comment about mosques that I found unacceptable.

Babs03 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:26:39

@Stripey Gran
I imagine Rabbis and Imams as well as community leaders will be coming out to condemn this terrible act and to ask communities for calm.

Mosques also need security, attacks have increased along with anti semitic attacks and I fear that a far right riot could result after this atrocity.

AGAA4 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:29:07

Police have declared Manchester synagogue attack as a terrorist incident. This is worrying as there could be more to come. Hopefully the police presence at synagogues have kept them safe from other terrorists.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:36:40

When we in the UK allow anti semitic hate marches on our streets and anti Jewish rants at pop concerts what do we expect?

surfsup Thu 02-Oct-25 15:41:15

I don’t understand why mosques are even brought into this discussion. There’s a lot of misinformation on here.

As someone who has lived close to a synagogue for over 15 years I should add that security and a police presence has been a constant for many years.

It’s quite obvious that many of you are blissfully unaware of just how much anti Jew hatred there is in the UK. It’s ramped up since 7/10/23 but it’s always been there and it’s despicable.

Antisemitic hate marches?

FGT
Let’s try not to make comments apportioning blame right now. I think our thoughts should be with those affected by this horror.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:44:53

Oh let’s not address the cause of this terror attack?
Ye gods.
Can anyone remember when Jewish people were a cause of any trouble in Britain? Me neither.

Do you agree then with the subjugation of women as practised in their culture.?

AGAA4 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:49:59

Antisemitism has been rife in Britain ever since I can remember. I've never understood why. As you say FGT Jews cause no trouble as far as I know.

Babs03 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:55:09

I really don’t think this thread is the place for angry comments aimed at any group.
Surely this horror should show us where anger and hatred can lead.

TerriBull Thu 02-Oct-25 15:56:58

Oreo

I just knew something would happen today, the blatant and the half hidden anti-semitism started days after 7th October 2023.
Started with two cars full of Muslim Palestinian supporters driving around Golders Green aggressively shouting abuse at Jews and waving Palestinian flags. They were arrested and probably just given a warning. It all continued from there ever since leading to today.Just thankful that the responders were ready for it.Despicable and disgusting indeed ferry.

I've seen some very overt anti Jewish demonstrations taking place in Bournemouth, where there is a sizeable Jewish community, similar to the ones you've mentioned. These were on a Saturday, their Sabbath when Jewish people are quite visible. A couple of years ago this manifested with vehicles being driven around, making a hell of a lot of noise, displaying Palestinian flag and abuse being randomly hurled at Jewish people on their way to Synagogue. Anti Jewish rabble have been at this around the country for a while, whenever they can get away with it, which they do. Jewish people for ever conflated with whatever ills Netanyahu's government are inflicting on the people of Gaza. As with all acts of terror aimed completely randomly and full of skewed hatred which has been allowed to flourish even in places of worship.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:59:00

I have already expressed my heartfelt sympathy for the victims of this terrorist attack (now confirmed as such by GMP Commissioner Watson - an admirable ‘old school’ copper, we are lucky to have him here in Gtr. Manchester).

Now my thoughts move on. As will many others too, once sympathies have been expressed.

Iam64 Thu 02-Oct-25 15:59:16

I hesitate to fuel the anger and often disagree with FGT, here’s the but. Can anyone remember when our Jewish communities caused trouble?
I do know some so frightened by increasing anti semitism, they’re considering moving to Israel. Desperate times

No I can’t.
And this is why we need to seek calm right now and not fuel any division or anger.
This isn’t and shouldn’t be a political thread.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Oct-25 16:07:54

It IS a political thread Babs03 (the clue is in the forum chosen by the OP).

Thank you Iam.
Once again, we agree it seems.

This atrocity is not just ‘an incident’. COBRA do not meet for nothing. This IS a targeted terrorist attack. Denial or swerving it shames us and denigrates those who have been seriously harmed today.

No, it was my thought too.
Never that I can remember.
