Just listened to the BBC radio news.

Apparently a migrant who was flown back to France under the one in one out deal between Sir Starmer and President Macron has returned to UK on a small boat.

Who couldn’t foresee this happening 🤷‍♀️

You can judge where they come from by language, if they refuse to give information just send them back to the nearest country where it is spoken..This might stop them throwing paperwork into the sea. Just block any illegals, full stop, we are full. Clear the back log and stop all these reapplication attempts.
I heard a troubling account of RNLI going out to help migrants on an overfilled boat, they hung babies over the sea and said if you take some these will drown. What person does that. Migrants are ruining this country.

StripeyGran Fri 24-Oct-25 07:33:57

Where do you hear these troubling accounts please and what would you have the RNLI do ?

Language is not ethnicity by the way.

I shall return the favour betony, yes I do.
The situation was much more under control before BREXIT, because we had a workable relationship with Europe. After BREXIT we did not gain control of our borders though did we? Is that simply my opinion?
No
There are so many figures snd statistics to demonstrate the disastrous increase after, and caused by BREXIT.
So, is it Labour 's fault?
No.
Who persuaded folk to vote for BREXIT?
Maybe it's his fault?

Allsorts, yes, clear the backlog!!!!

That's an interesting sort of concept. Without any real knowledge I'm guessing Arabic, Somali, Pashto, Dari and French. Oh, there's the name of that nearest country again for the last category - France!
However, of course it isn't that simple though.

Betony

I've read that the whole business of encouraging migration was started by the Blair Govt. with the aim of creating a new population of Labour voters. Well, possibly. Whatever the intention, it's turned out more like The Sorcerer's Apprentice - out of control and terrifying.

I don’t understand what you mean by started by Blair
Are you referring to 2004 when the eu opened up to 10 more countries which allowed free travel.
In that year 129,000 legal migrants arrived from these 10 countries.
Blair had the option to set a quota on the migrants but didn’t.
The overall number arriving in 2004 was 225,000

On tv last night. A skipper who operates a volunteer rescue boat out of Boulogne. He volunteered this information without the reporter knowing this is happening.
This hideous action isn’t new.

You have to laugh at this one in, one out policy otherwise you end up crying.

As far as I know, Keir Starmer is talking to the leaders of the West Balkans countries to set up return hubs in their country whereby the illegal migrants from UK are send there before they are deported.

Albania said 'No Way!' Montenegro said ‘Yes if UK is willing to invest 10 billion euros into their railway system.’

All I can say is this small boat problem is costing UK a fortune.

The irony is to reset Brexit, Keir Starmer is under pressure to start the EU youth mobility scheme whereby at a guess 100k to 200k young people from EU will be eligible to work, study or volunteer in the UK for a few years.

So, the pressure on housing, NHS is not going to improve any time soon.

I am more worried about the economy. Unemployment at its highest since Rachel Reeves put the burden of taxes ie., higher national insurance on business and corporations.

Did I hear this right just now?
In a week where a one in one out migrant makes his way back to the UK from France, we now have the locked up Epping Hotel migrant, awaiting deportation, accidently disappearing?
Things usually come in threes they say, so we have to wonder whats next?
You really couldn't make it up!

So, what you are saying PaynesGrey is that the Labour Government is taking actual real steps to tackle the situation?
They are doing it now.
Would some Posters prefer they wait 14 years and do nothing useful?

No do something, they might achieve something by year fourteen, if they manage to stay in power

So which party do you think would be capable of achieving something?

The escapee has been papped in Chelmsford city centre, wearing his prisoner uniform and carrying his belongings in a see through polythene bag.

He was chatting away to two pals 🤷‍♀️

Well, for starters, I think the Tories were quite ineffectual.
Nadine Dorries was on Question Time and didn't manage to make any sense about Reform's policy.
Haven't heard what the Green Party or the Liberals would do.
Perhaps other GNs would wish to fill in on this?
At the moment Labour is in power, so they will just have to be the ones.
Who do you think could pull it off?

Maremia Fri 24-Oct-25 19:17:36

Sorry thought you were asking me.

A prison officer is under investigation.
