The Erica Kirk/Vance story is not pleasant reading, I’ve seen it suggested in the UK too. We’ve also seen him publicly saying he wants his wife to ‘see the light’ and become a Catholic. I would tell him where to get off I were her.

I doubt that anything is happening between them. But what they say and do is causing questions.

I feel badly for Usha Vance. She married and had children with a never Trumper, only for him to embrace Trump and MAGA. Which has lead to racism against her, questions about inappropriate behavior with a recent widow and her husband throwing her religion under the bus in public. And she quit her career as an attorney to do so.

I think the stuff aimed at Erica kirk is more than likely just the typical misogyny you often see aimed at women after theor husbands death.

We already made the decision not to visit the USA whilst Trump is in office - sad as have both family and friends there

Instead they can go to Egypt, Thailand, China, Dubai even Turkey all of whom are military dictatorships with very questionable human rights records.

Yes, seems it's more the picking and choosing rather than looking at the real picture. I would choose America over any of those other choices, and my son will be returning to see his dad again this year. He is always made so welcome by those he meets. Not all America is Trump.

Please remember that out of over 330 million people in the US, only 77 million voted for him.

He does not represent all of us. We do not support him. Americans are lovely, welcoming people. So please don't write us all off as something we are not.

If I were on here making generalizations about British citizens, you would all be telling me that it isn't fair to lump you all together.

Absolutely, my children love visiting their dad in America. Made very welcome always. Trump isn't all American people.

Many you know may say that Freya5, but it’s not borne out by the number of tourists, the UK is predicted to have a 6.3% rise in tourism in 2025. Meanwhile, tourism is in a serious decline in the USA. Compared with 2024 a similar drop to the rise in the UK is predicted, and post pandemic it is worse. There is a lot of concern there about this issue.

We now have much stricter rules for visas immigrants who make up please remember for the Nth time constitute 94% of incomers.

But not immediately for older people joining family perfectly legally or for genuine asylum seekers/refugees who don't come with much English.

However, I would just point out that many people in other countries seem to think England is synonymous with the whole of the UK.
"Do you live in England" is a common question in many places overseas and if you say "No, Wales" (but only just!) they look puzzled and say "But that's in England".

Its pretty grim as you can imagine, indulging clear AI stuff.

The fact that sometimes people use England and UK as exchangeable is from Empire Days, and hardly an excuse for use by an English citizen except for her own ignorance or deliberate choice.

My son emigrated out there 15 years ago, when he married an American girl.

He loves the lifestyle he can afford (compared to what he would be able to afford over here) but he keeps out of the politics and arguments. 👍

My wife’s Brother and Sister live in US, he Republican, she Democrat, they don’t speak even though they live 10mls apart, our rule is dont discus politics so we get on fine with both.

I would hate a system where you have to support one or the other
