Woman shot and killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Yesterday there was a very tragic shooting of a woman leaving the scene of an Immigration raid/incident . The video clips are very disturbing as she is shot and killed by an officer after she was given conflicting information by two officers . One who told her to leave and another who told her to get out of the car.
She was killed by a third officer who was to the side of the car . I can only advise you not to watch the clip if you feel it might be disturbing . I was able to read a good account of it in the NYT and it definitely looks and reads like she was murdered.
She was a white, US citizen not a target of the raid.

I truly feel like the USA is imploding from the inside out and that Trump is creating fires of danger everywhere.

We are all open to challenge - (apart from the US President and his cronies, who can only resort to insult rather than logic and morally defensible explanation!)

That’s true Galaxy but you know what forums are like, it’s trotted out as regularly as a drinking game.

No matter what I think about the police in the UK, I understand that if an authority figure tells me to step out of the car, then that’s precisely what I need to do. No ifs or buts. If any lessons are learned from this situation, then politeness and obedience to a directive may one day save lives

Maybe post Sarah Everard many of us might not agree!

The Jews in Germany were not, repeat not living there illegally they were German citizens quite often long standing ones of generations and generations

Oreo that is exactly the point made in the comment piece I mentioned above. The one in which I was apparently ‘lecturing’.

Oreo Sun 11-Jan-26 12:03:47

There’s just no comparison LizzieDrip.

I’ve asked for my post to be removed as I realise it gives ‘access’ to my Instagram, which I’m not comfortable with - given the views and attitudes of a few posters on here.

How can it do that? Are you sure?
That's worrying if so.

given the views and attitudes of a few posters on here.
What do you mean by that, exactly?

That was a one off that nobody including the victim could have foreseen.

Views that don’t accord with LizzieDrip’s own presumably?

When history repeats itself, we are entitled to discuss on any format, including here on GN, what history has told us, before history repeats itself.

Maremia Sun 11-Jan-26 12:08:07

Until actual Admins say we may not.

Native Americans are not living there illegally. They have been living there for generations.
Native Americans are being targeted as 'illegal', just as the Jews were in 1930's Germany.
There are comparisons that exist, in history, even though that is being denied by some posters.

Galaxy Sun 11-Jan-26 12:16:47

You are of course entitled to discuss it, people are entitled to disagree with the comparisons.

Oreo Sun 11-Jan-26 12:18:12

If, and with forums it’s a big if, Native Americans are taken in for questioning then they can soon prove who they are and will be then immediately released.

Oreo Sun 11-Jan-26 12:19:12

There are plenty of Native American lawyers who would soon be on the case.

Maremia Sun 11-Jan-26 12:21:31

Good, Galaxy, I do enjoy an open and free discussion.

My choice would not have been to taunt and follow them around all day then disobey an order.
My choice, should I have wanted to would have been to join a bunch of protesters on the sidewalk.

Victim blaming! And exaggeration, she didn't "taunt them all day".

Comparing certain far right political groups today with Nazi Germany isn’t completely out of order. Looking at the politics that led to the Holocaust can be helpful when trying to avoid making the same mistakes and also to call out anyone targeting certain groups due to far right hatred of said groups.
And I don’t think being Jewish should stop someone wanting those comparisons to be made. We are non practising Jews but have previous generations who did suffer during the Holocaust and I would not want to see this happen again anywhere, to any group of people, and most of our family and friends feel the same way, some living in NYC where most Jewish groups are firmly against Trump and his cronies and their hatred of certain other groups in the US.
Nobody can say that what is happening equates completely with what happened in Nazi Germany but there are resonances.
Others, of course can disagree.

The bonus is most police do not carry guns in the UK.
Despite many frequent protests no one in the UK gets shot.
Let’s not forget this all happened in seconds.
There were witnesses that heard others say get out of here and leave.
So that’s what Renee was doing.
The officer called them fxxxing bxxches.

Protocol that is also in our law is that the officer must stand back from a departing vehicle.
I posted the exact law earlier in this thread.

Officers with firearms should go through all sorts of training.

He was a firearms trainer.

Wyllow3 Sun 11-Jan-26 13:28:41

It feels as if they feel empowered to act in a way they would not have done before by the Trumps regime - big time. Because they know they will get away with it.

But keep up the protests, imaround.

Remember the murder of George Floyd? it took activists to bring it into the light and ended up with Black Lives Matter.

After this thought I did a spot of googling. its being cited already.

NBC news

"ICE shooting reignites trauma in Minneapolis still shaped by George Floyd protests
Minneapolis residents say the killing of Renee Nicole Good triggered memories of 2020 in a city long conditioned to organize after violence by authorities".

ICE hasn’t a clue what it is doing, which makes them doubly dangerous

At least five Native American men have been detained and an unknown number questioned by immigration officers across the Minneapolis area in the midst of what a top official called the “largest immigration raid ever.”

After 2,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrived in Minneapolis early this week, Indigenous residents on the city’s southside have witnessed agents question and even detain community members. Blocks away from a local Native American housing community, a 37-year-old mother was shot by ICE agents Wednesday, sparking nationwide protests.

“I think some of them [ICE] don’t even know what they’re doing or where they’re at,” said Little Crow Belcourt, White Earth Ojibwe and the director of the Indigenous Peoples Movement. “They’re just pulling people over at random, if you’re Brown. Some of our Native (American) people get mistaken for our relatives south of the border.”

Maremia Sun 11-Jan-26 16:42:02

He was a firearms trainer! That makes it, if possible, even more depressing.
Thanks for that detail imaround.

That’s simply not the point! Suppose a suspect over here for any supposed “crime” was described as “female with grey hair” and they were all taken in, at gunpoint, to prove their innocence?

Frogoet Sun 11-Jan-26 16:48:23

It is sad that even here there are people who believe that protest in misguided. Without protest we’d still be without- paid leave, the vote, maternity benefits, unable to own property, unable to have children with us after divorce … etc.
Many laws are proved wrong after protest. And in the US and UK it is often a matter of emphasis/ interpretation.
