Woman shot and killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Yesterday there was a very tragic shooting of a woman leaving the scene of an Immigration raid/incident . The video clips are very disturbing as she is shot and killed by an officer after she was given conflicting information by two officers . One who told her to leave and another who told her to get out of the car.
She was killed by a third officer who was to the side of the car . I can only advise you not to watch the clip if you feel it might be disturbing . I was able to read a good account of it in the NYT and it definitely looks and reads like she was murdered.
She was a white, US citizen not a target of the raid.

I truly feel like the USA is imploding from the inside out and that Trump is creating fires of danger everywhere.

Just say there are those who voted for Trump and those who didn’t and those who like him and those who don’t.Even some of the ones who don’t like him don’t necessarily disagree with all his policies and vice versa.

Oreo , do you have need to be so dismissive? I can see that you are a great supporter of Starfire's reasoning . O.K. that's your viewpoint, mine is different, as are the viewpoints of other Americans we have on here.

Oreo Wed 14-Jan-26 09:33:35

But you were dismissive Westendgirl or don’t you see that?
Yes I agree with Starfire and her comments on here are always polite too.She is far less dismissive than very many posters btw and explains her reasoning.
I have very little time for DT but then I had very little time for Biden either.
Trump said before he was elected that the administration would go after illegal immigrants in the country and he was elected. Now he’s doing it.

Well, tbf, your comments don’t often back up your assertion that you have “little time for Trump”

I do agree that Biden was weak, too old and clearly towards the end of his term, too unwell, but I don’t think for one moment he did half the damage Trump has done this term, I simply cannot understand ANYONE who feels his aggression, lies and lunacy are fit for a POTUS. he, too is now too old.

So - all you Trump apologists who think the woman should just obey the ‘law enforcers’ or expect to be shot and killed - here we have Trump saying directly to the protesters in Iran ”keep protesting “

So - one rule for US inhabitants and another for Iranians?

In addition - Trump ready to wade in to defend Iranians being slaughtered, but not Palestinians who were being slaughtered? Wonder why?

Sooner Trump goes, the better for the whole world (that he thinks he owns!). The sooner we in Europe tell him to do his worst with his sanctions and we in Europe stick together and defend Denmark/Greenland and support Ukraine the better!

Well said!

In fact, despite the assumption that we Brits, don’t understand the USA legal or government system, might like to recall that there are a good few American citizens on this site, along with many Brits who have family and close friends living in the USA.

I think most of have a fair grasp of the system, even if we didn’t most of us recognise the difference between right and wrong, please, don’t be so patronising.

How about posters not dismissing Starfire57 then? It works both ways you know.
And do you know what the population of the US is? So anecdotes about some relatives of posters don’t mean much.

Voting figures tell me that just over half of those who voted didn't vote for Trump.

Looking at eligible voters, some 69 million didn't register and of those who did, 17 million didn't vote.

Which kind of says that out of the US population of about 340 million, fewer voters registered approval of Trump than those who didn't and those who didn't vote. Which makes anti Trump anecdotes from US friends and family perfectly reasonable.

His approval rating is also dropping in the polls.

Didn’t realise that the UK and USA were so closely aligned…. And who is plummeting faster?MaizieD

Thank you Oreo , for your support and common sense posts.

It is disturbing people are so willing to buy into the media hysteria which ,in reality, is an attempt for democrats to win the midterms and later the White House.

They mislead with terms like fascism and dictator; and outright misrepresented things to sound worse than they are.

I cannot tell you how many times I read claims of actual citizens being deported. That is impossible in our system.

All part of the game.

Clearly media hysteria!

Honestly, I’m not sure why we bother responding to the very few posters on here who will never admit how very right wing they are nor admit they might just be wrong.

I’m wrong about lots of things, I’m quite happy to be shown evidence I’m wrong or to research or speak ro someone far more knowledgable than myself.

Any one know which state starfire lives? I’m know things are very different in different parts of the USA, with many differing opinions.

Critical thinking is the key, as is active listening.

It’s clear here we all have our own beliefs, views and moral compasses.

That’s fine, we all have differing live experiences which shape us.

Cossy Wed 14-Jan-26 11:22:06

Btw, “media hysteria” does work both ways.

Since the death of Renee Good much has been printed about her in YSA media, social and news.

Her family has had to issue a statement denying that this woman had any criminal history and that her wife is not a political agitator.

Her children will be aware of all this, as well as the nasty homophobic remarks.

Whatever she chose to do or not do, in her car, or why, there is no excuse for shooting this woman dead.

Anyone who feels “she deserved” this for not immediately get out of her car need to be cleaner than clean and never have made any mistakes in their own lives.

Would I have got out of my car immediately ? I’m not so sure what I would have done, especially when there was already chaos and many many ICE officers crowding the streets. They are not law enforcement, they are specifically employed to seek out illegal immigrants, Renee Good was not an illegal immigrant.

Sadly, this isn’t an isolated event.

Case Studies of Mistaken Deportations:
Roberto Dominguez: Born in Massachusetts, he was deported to the Dominican Republic in 1999, only to return years later after obtaining a U.S. passport.
Pedro Guzman: A native Californian, deported to Mexico in 2007, he returned to the U.S. and later received $350,000 in compensation from the government.
Mark Daniel Lyttle: A North Carolina native, deported to Mexico in 2008, he successfully sued the government for wrongful removal.

Cossy : Good post.

It is comforting to know that most posters here see the appalling death of Renee for what it is,

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 14-Jan-26 11:43:06

At the beginning of this thread, I expressed doubts about how robust the recruitment was of prospective ICE agents, and how thorough their training.
Starfire and I were in agreement with this.
The organisation was assembled hurriedly, and the timescale offered little opportunity (or interest?) for adequate training.
So, we have poorly vetted, poorly trained people on the streets with guns: what could possibly go wrong?

Caleo Wed 14-Jan-26 12:10:27

I wonder how much power mayors of cities have to exclude operations of Trump's armed militia.

I don’t know, but at a guess zero!

Also what about all those poor souls working in govt and other places suddenly losing their jobs via Elon Musks mob, wonder how they are managing!

I posted something about US energy costs on another thread here, a poor woman’s take on it in New York

Please don’t bother responding on my account, but don’t use the ‘we’ word because that looks very much like ganging up doesn’t it?
Also don’t use the words right wing to me because I’m certainly not.Nor am I far left, just a Labour voter who along with millions of others are aghast at what Starmer and his happy campers are doing policy wise.
I also won’t admit I’m wrong because I’m not wrong.I haven’t read a single post on here that say anyone deserves to be shot, rather that the two women acted foolishly in my opinion in obstructing armed officials by their words and actions.
Many others are protesting in a very different way and there’s no way they would be harmed in doing that.
Other opinions think differently and I wouldn’t diss or in any way be rude to posters with differing views, it’s just an online forum courtesy.

Syracute, so very sorry that your fellow citizens are being treated in such a cruel, unjustified and illegal way.

Ordinary folk are not always allowed into courts. Yes, we know that, thank you.
But Reporters are, so I will ask again, are there any details coming out about the due process that has been claimed upthread?

Or, simply skip past. WE are not obliged to read and or respond to every post.
