Yesterday there was a very tragic shooting of a woman leaving the scene of an Immigration raid/incident . The video clips are very disturbing as she is shot and killed by an officer after she was given conflicting information by two officers . One who told her to leave and another who told her to get out of the car.
She was killed by a third officer who was to the side of the car . I can only advise you not to watch the clip if you feel it might be disturbing . I was able to read a good account of it in the NYT and it definitely looks and reads like she was murdered.
She was a white, US citizen not a target of the raid.
I truly feel like the USA is imploding from the inside out and that Trump is creating fires of danger everywhere.

If people wish to protest immigration trying to find illegal immigrants it’s up to them ( can’t think why they would do it) then they just have to do it in a way that they can stay safe, in a group away from cars with no kind of obstruction at all.
It’s the only way.
I think it a touch naïve to assume that Trump has sent ICE in because of genuine concern about immigration.
America has a President who is out of control.
Having executed what he considers to be a serious of brilliant coups against Venezuela, Russia and Greenland, his increasingly brutal removal of illegal immigrants is exposed by the unwarranted shooting of an unarmed woman.
All followed by incessant boasting from him and his henchmen, including maligning the victim without any form of investigation. (JD Vance)
The behaviour of the Police. Local Guard and or ICE officials, (difficult to identify) on bystanders was shown on news reports last night; spraying pepper spray in their faces then hurling or pushing them over into the snow.
All this emanates from the top, a President who regards himself as invincible, which he appears to be at present.
Make America Great Again?
Is there a reason apart from not wanting illegal immigrants?
We don’t want them here either.

But we don’t have armed and trigger happy border forces.
There is a world of difference.
Trump has sent in this bunch of obviously badly trained gun toting cowboys because this is how he approaches any problem, with brute force, in order to show what a strong armed dictator he is.

I wasn't meaning to be rude to David. I should perhaps have said 'boasting of British exceptionalism' instead of 'xenophobic' 🤔'
Or perhaps admitted to the truth and said he was perfectly correct.
Police are armed in many countries and it’s not advisable to act in a shouty angry way towards them or disobey a direct order.
Have you ever been to Europe?
You couldn’t be further from the truth.
Minnesota is a Democrat state and has a very articulate and outspoken Governor.
“I don’t think any government in history has had to fight a war against the federal government every single day,” the state’s governor said. “We are under assault like no other time in our state’s history because of a petty, vile administration that doesn’t care about the wellbeing of Minnesotans.”
Yes, I have been to several countries in Europe and the police in Greece and Italy were the worst.
Actually WhitewaveMark2 I live in Europe! 😄
We saw much of this behaviour in Trumps first term, but this time it has got far worse.
The trouble was that it ended in an attempted coup with the insurrection on Jan6th.
What will happen this time?

I would agree, and that’s all the more reason for citizens there to be very very careful.

“Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.”

I’ve travelled in countries where police and army road checks are routine, you answer questions and obey orders because they have machine guns at the ready. If you attempt to drive off they will open fire.
I’ve seen others marched off a gunpoint because they thought it was funny to make smart comments., customs and police often don’t have a sense of humor.
But how often have they shot anyone, David?

Citizens can take part in protests peacefully on the sidewalks there, hold placards and show what they think of this strongarm immigration policy.
There’s a big difference between that and confrontational actions which could lead to injury or death.

In a country where criminals routinely carry guns like the US or many or many others, quite often, when someone points a gun at you it’s not a good time to argue.
Last year 1300 civilians were killed by police in the US.
Her car was not blocking the road.
She was not protesting.
She was attempting to move away, as ordered by one of agents.
She is a victim.
Well said Mamie. So true and so pertinent.
Oreo. there are times when silent protest will not do and when people have to speak out to be counted, I fear this is one of them

She is a victim.
The video showed me three things, firstly one officer was telling her to move on then another told her to get out, and thirdly it was icy on the road so was hard to move the car with three officers in close proximity.
If I were driving that car I would be totally panicked and unable to decide what to do with such conflicting instructions and then seeing an officer pull his gun.
She must have been terrified.
Nothing about this looks like a woman using her car as a weapon and everything about it looks like an innocent woman trying to cope with a very scary situation and then being shot dead without enough time or clear instructions to do what was required of her.

They needn’t be silent.

Well you ought to see how they are doing it !
I watched a video where they dragged a pregnant woman from her car across the snow. These are human beings . If you saw a dog being dragged by his leash where he was collapsed on the ground would that not upset you ?
People, who care, who are feeling human beings , get affected by watching these scenes. These are not all vicious gang members like Starfire would have you believe. They are peoples neighbors who have lived and worked and paid taxes.
People who have been a part of the community. I am glad that there are people brave enough to watch, to witness and object. If it not for those private citizens with phones that bravely recorded on their phones what happened this officer may have gotten away with this murder. Because that is what this was . I need though the hope there will be a court of law because the way it is going it may be an attempt to exonerate this officer.
To whitewash the crime we all know happened.
Yes it has been obvious for months that neighbours and friends are those trying to help people being so badly treated, even though they put themselves at risk.
Easy to turn your back and say “nothing to do with me” but when it’s your turn, don’t expect anyone to come to your aid.
I met a friend yesterday whose DH is very active regarding help for Palestine.
He, along with a couple of friends decided to start a Palestine help group in their Sussex village. They advertised the meeting and to their astonishment over 200 local people turned up, and it has grown from there.
People do care and are willing to put themselves on the line.
Oreo - maybe ‘don’t get in their way’ with regard to ICE is the advice you would have given here in the picture?
Is it also the same advice you would give when you see thugs attacking people in the streets of the UK?
We need people with moral fibre to stand up and be counted against injustice and barbarity. Otherwise the world will be populated only by cowards and bystanders who become part of the problem.
