Just seen Matt Goodwin has a new book due to be published on monday called Suicide of a Nation. He has an extract from the book in the Daily Mail today, which is excellent. I think this will be well worth purchasing.

I m very content with how my country looks Meandrogrog
I ve lived long enough to be used to the hatred spewed out to various ethnic populations by racists and I m very far from content with racism
Hopefully one day we will eradicate these racists from our shores perhaps we can swap them and send them off in little
(or big) boats

I m much rather live next door to a Muslim than a racist

Its that word again, the one always, always used. Its overused, meaningless, accusatory while being quite untrue.

The word "racist" most certainly isn't meaningless and generally not overused. If people feel accused, maybe they should look at their caps to check if they fit.

Oreo and Meandrogrog. I disagree with almost all of the pre-publication blurb. Fortunately, we don't live in a country with draconian censorship, so both you two and I are free to give our opinions.

I'm a retired teacher, Labour voter who meets friends in pubs. What part of " not the real world" do I need to address, Meandrogrog?
Yes as I say teachers are quite often Labour voters, do you read the Guardian too? I really do not expect you to agree with me!*

Many of us here on Gransnet are actually centralists, we also read many different “papers” online, and in addition use many different sources online to fact check.

I do find you rude, sorry, I’m not being rude, simply honest.

As I often find you!

This is just descending into accusations of racism being bandied about, it usually happens when there is no meaningful reply, just flinging accusations around.

Please all, read the article in the Daily Mail today of a woman’s experiences living in a town with an immigrant camp situated there. I would love to know your thoughts.

We are, as the censorship isn’t at Iran levels yet.😃

Our NHS is now at third world levels, dentists as scarce as hens teeth, GP appointments an absolute lottery, potholed roads all around the country.Over immigration, as well as illegal migrants landing here daily. The government are trying to reduce immigration so quite why all the accusations about racism are coming from I don’t know, unless posters think this government is racist.

Its me they think that about! I will leave them to their undoubted moral superiority and heightened sense of moral justice. I just wanted to point out the publication of the book!

I wonder, after 14 years of Tory rule, what could have caused the NHS to sink so low?
How did the NHS rate in the world, when Labour was previously in power?
Higher or lower?

Cossy Sat 14-Mar-26 10:25:20

Matt Goodwin quotes statistics as to the predicted percentage of Muslims to White British in years to come, are you quite content with this eventual outcome! I assume his projections must be based on research.

Why would any of us care?

Do you actually know any Muslims? I have worked with many and live close to others.

On the whole, just like other humans, most of them are very hard working, open, family loving people.

I’ve know Muslim women who attended University here and married and continue to work full time.

Whilst working in the Civil Service I had three Muslim line managers, (not all at the same time), all were married, two were women, one man. The male manager was the kindest and most understanding manager I’ve ever had, married to an English woman he adored and a child they both treasured. Both follow their own religions and respected and celebrated each other’s faith. People could learn from them.

My lovely Muslim colleague, whom I sat next to for a year, entertained us with amusing tales of her family, shared beautiful photos of her daughters weddings and once a month brought in her home cooked food which was just delicious.

Not one Muslim person I’ve ever met wishes to impose their laws or faith upon us, and has fully integrated.

My DH still remembers his childhood in London, he came from Southern Ireland at 5, both parents were Irish, he still has an Irish passport and is a resident but not a British citizen, he remembers signs on B&B doors and some pubs, “No dogs, No blacks, no Irish” neither of us ever wishes to return to these days! He actively changed his accent and sounds like someone from the East End of London and he’s white, this prevented the bullying he experienced and saw continue among the black community with whom he happily lived.

We both abhor racism and despise racists, so if anyone finds this combative, I make zero apology.

Even at the end of the Labour years my local hospital was a dirty disgrace and A&E like a scene from a war zone.I think it’s all been going downhill for a very long time.

Gosh, you really are on board with this stuff aren't you?

What is the link between the NHS and immigration please?

Are immigrants responsible for potholes?

Are they responsible for the privitisation of dentistry?

BlueBelle Sat 14-Mar-26 10:30:14

If you make racist statements accept being called a racist, Meandrogrog Perhaps you aren’t a racist Perhaps you’re just afraid of anything not familiar to you but on second thoughts you are on here fighting you’re beliefs, so you can’t be that faint hearted,
And that last post is a bit more bait for a racist to use I think I probably have far more knowledge of life with a Muslim, a Buddhist or a Sikh than you do. There are good and bad everywhere There are killers, rapists, bigamists, thieves in every colour, creed and country, no one religion or racial group has the monopoly.

What ethnic group should be ruling Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America etc need I go on! Should it be white skinned people ?? Do tell me your views on that

Wyllow3 Sat 14-Mar-26 10:30:37

Better things to do when you have heard it all before.

Nothing new in that book, OP, and I’ve been kicking around in politics all my life including university degree level.

This stuff was was as I have said above kicking round in the 1930’s broadly speaking. We know what lady in DM will say already.

You knew many would disagree: why complain of a pile up? On the contrary, you were hoping for one:

but reading your posts all you have done imo, is quote little chunks of the book, not make your own propositions or narratives.

Oreo Sat 14-Mar-26 10:31:02

Cossy the thing is…that very many haven’t integrated at all.
Which is why men are seen in polling stations telling their wives how to vote, the honour killings which still go on and the wife beating.

How can people condemn something they’ve not even read? That seems to me very bigoted and the old argument trotted out it’s racist to avoid serious discussion. I’m not a communist but I did read Mao’s Little Red Book. It gave me a greater understanding of his thoughts and although I disagreed with most some were very apposite. That said I won’t be rushing out to buy his book. I’m sure there will be lots of extracts which I will read and form my opinion on. It’s supposed to be backed up with statistics which I will look at carefully as to their veracity.

Just what I was thinking 👍🏻

This is what the publisher has to say about it:

"A searing examination of Britain's political crisis and the growing chasm between Westminster and the people it governs.

Suicide of a Nation is a story of how Britain, one of the most remarkable countries on earth, is not just in decline but is committing national suicide.

It is a story of how a people are losing their own country. Mass uncontrolled immigration, porous borders, 'two-tier multiculturalism', and a draconian regime of censorship are all contributing to not just the transformation of a country and a people but their very replacement.

Drawing on a huge amount of data, rigorous analysis, and demographic forecasts, Suicide of a Nation pulls back the curtain to show readers how their population, how their country, is now being completely transformed -and in ways they never voted for, nor ever asked for.

Through an unflinching look at reality, a reality the politicians would rather you ignore, Suicide of a Nation asks and then answers a series of uncomfortable but urgent questions.

What is happening to Britain, and why? On current demographic trends, where will the country be at the end of the century, only 74 years from now? Why are millions of people, including their wishes, concerns, and worries, being ignored? Why has the country's political and cultural elite become so utterly disconnected from the rest of the country? What might happen if none of this is addressed? And what must change before it is too late?"

No thanks!

What do you disagree with about any of the above?

I was just thinking that too!

It is a story of how a people are losing their own country. Mass uncontrolled immigration, porous borders, 'two-tier multiculturalism', and a draconian regime of censorship are all contributing to not just the transformation of a country and a people but their very replacement.

It's very easy to disagree with this nonsense.

Absolutely, racist is losing its meaning on SM as it's so overused and wrongly used.
Glad that you’re happy with the state of our country BlueBelle but very very many people certainly aren’t and no it’s not all about immigration per se but the truth is that sheer numbers are putting a strain on all the infrastructure of life here.
