There is hope and oil prices plunge it seems Trumps invasion attack plans are on hold if Iran opens Hormuz, we can hope.

Quote from Starmer at today's PMQs:
“The most important thing we can do is to de-escalate the conflict and get the Straits of Hormuz open and that’s why I’m co-hosting the summit on Friday in order to make progress on both those fronts".

He reiterated that he is NOT joining the war like SHE ( finger pointing at Kemi to add to the rudeness) wanted but he can co-host a summit as though he has been at the forefront all along.

What a weasel if ever there was one. Another show today of his incompetence, utter stupidity and gross megalomania. I think I rather despise him.

I would say that the person co-hosting a summit meeting about de-escalating the results of a war SHOULD be someone who has not been not been in the forefront all along. The majority of the comment on Facebook has been praise for Starmer's calm logic in the chaos of the last few days/weeks.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 15-Apr-26 21:43:45

Calm logic?
That’s one way of describing it 😂

Elegran Wed 15-Apr-26 21:55:22

It is what is needed at the moment. there is too much hate and rage washing around. A spot of logic applied to plans to move forward, delivered calmly and without hysteria, with everyone heard and the position, opinions and strategy summed up as in a courtroom.

So who would you want to be PM at this moment in time?

but you have said you owls vote for Reform, and Farage, when the UK was asked, would have joined the US in the war. Is that your stand on the war? We should have joined, bombing innocents in schools, laying saying they were doing it "for an alternative regime" but now willing to do a deal with said old regime?

Wyllow3 Wed 15-Apr-26 23:29:34

not "owls", "would".

I’m with FGT2 on Starmer and that he believes that talk equates to meaningful action.
He loves talks and jetting off somewhere.
He can’t do anything to de-escalate the conflict or get the Straits of Hormuz open so isn’t in a position to take meaningful action in this case so as usual will wait until others take the lead while he dithers about. He announces that he is doing things as if it’s actually a done deal.
I see the Speaker is angry with him for never answering a question at Prime Minister’s Question Time.

Maremia Thu 16-Apr-26 10:58:09

What did Churchill say about negotiations...ie 'talk'?
'Better to jaw-jaw than war-war'

What would you do?

Most people, on and off social media and some very begrudgingly, have respect for Starmer for his stance and for his calm approach.

Think you’re letting your finer feelings about a man you don’t know personally cloud your judgement somewhat, only my opinion of course, but this is how you’re coming across on here!

I think you’re confusing Starmer with Farage.

It’s part of a PM’s remit to meet with leaders of other nations, or as you casually put it, “jet off to other countries”.

I’m afraid, at times, I despise your posts (not you, I don’t know you personally and this isn’t a jab at you personally)

Your use of language in your last paragraph of our PM is so rude and so off the mark. You don’t have to like someone to feel he’s doing an ok job.

Why is he incompetent, stupid and a gross megalomaniac?

At least when some of us rubbish and insult Farage and Trump we explain why and have plenty of evidence to back up our statements.

Luckygirl3 Thu 16-Apr-26 11:46:24

I am with Starmer all the way. He is behaving like a statesman and steering clear of all the rhetoric. Just beavering away to try and inject some sanity. Good for him.

Cumbrianmale56 Thu 16-Apr-26 12:24:47

Starmer kept us out of a war no one wanted over here. I'm not a fan of his government, but he's done the right thing by keeping us out of what would be a costly and unpopular war.

But that is exactly what posters did about Boris, letting their feelings cloud their judgement about a man they did not know personally. Pot, kettle, black.

And what became of Johnson? Thrown out of government in disgrace. I think we knew enough about both his political life and his personal life to make some of us feel we did know him. Drunk and hungover in an airport after partying with Lebedev for starters. Trying to illegally prorogue parliament. The list is endless…

Am not confusing anything thanks.
Starmer is at his happiest when attending any gatherings of foreign leaders, what he isn’t any good at is being PM at home.
He may have made a reasonable Foreign Secretary.

For calm logic…read refusing to do anything at all.Dithering, he’s very good at that, along with passing the buck and will go down in history as the worst Labour PM ever.

AGAA4 Thu 16-Apr-26 14:39:51

Starmer will go down in history as a leader who said a firm NO to Trump who is now in a very difficult place with this ill thought out war.

Sorry 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You forgotten about Blair already?

I think those of us supporting Starmer here, even if it’s only for his stance on this War and Trump in general, and those who appear to loathe him, are never ever going to agree.

I think respectfully, we are best simply agreeing to disagree.

I’m still angry about some of the utter nonsense coming out of Johnson’s mouth plus the damage he caused this country, not to mention the ££££££ he wasted. Some of still admire him, that’s your prerogative.

But I think that is all I will remember him for.

I wasn’t watching PMQT but my partner was. He said Starmer was answering the question when the Speaker interrupted him. He has a habit of throwing his weight around unfairly; I’ve complained twice to the Speakers office about that, once when he was downright rude to Caroline Lucas.
