Reforms response to Rachel Reeves’ heckler.

I thought Rachel Reeves kept her cool and made an appropriate response to the heckler at the petrol station. However, I am rather surprised at the responses from jey members of the reform party.
Nigel Farage: Reacting on X, Mr Farage said: "I’d like to buy this man a pint. Does anyone know how I can find him?"
Roger Jenrick: He sounds British to me, Rachel! Good for him.
Zia Yusuf : "Could this legendary gentleman please get in touch.
From the Express.
"A future Reform government would like to give him a peerage for this outstanding public service.

He didn’t say anything that bad. Nothing most politicians haven’t heard before.
But because he was flying the England flag he should be sent straight to the guillotine.
Honestly, some of the responses on this thread are hilarious 🤣

You can say that again!

And the Reform responses are all just banter, you can tell they are having a laugh about it. It's all part of the job these days I imagine, but just so happens that a camera was pointing at RR at the time. It he had shouted obscenities or showed aggression that would be different, although a lot of people have lost jobs or had businesses closed because of her, so you can understand if they were angry.

It sounded as though he was being foul mouthed and nasty but seems not. Storm in a teacup.

JenniferEccles Thu 21-May-26 16:58:25

In other words a fuss about nothing!

MT62 Thu 21-May-26 17:11:05

I’ve heard worse on PMQS

JenniferEccles Thu 21-May-26 17:40:31

For those of a Left- leaning persuasion, the very mention of Reform and Nigel Farage induces an attack of the vapours.

The rest of us though, know just how the heckler feels !

There is a current Thread about one of our GNs being scared by a group of youths in a supermarket.
Interesting to read on here the responses to Reeves being harrangued.
If it wasn't funny then, why is it funny now?

Kandinsky Thu 21-May-26 17:45:45

RR is a politician, they expect to be heckled occasionally. She was also surrounded by a film crew.
Hardly the same thing hmm

Not the same thing really. RR puts herself in the public eye saying things she knows will be unpopular among some of her audience.

Do you feel poster in the supermarket is putting herself in the public eye and inviting heckling by going shopping in a supermarket, therefore deserves hassle?

In that case, the answer would seem to be that she, and indeed all of us should only shop on line, and politicians should stay silent.

Rachel said something about good manners, I think.

She said it was un-British and very bad manners.
She should have just ignored him instead she looked very rattled.

Are you lacking in manners like the heckler?

Maremia Thu 21-May-26 20:32:23

It's okay now for men to shout at women?

Magenta8 Thu 21-May-26 20:33:31

The account I read reported that the man yelled f*****g Starmer among other things.

It is not about right or left wing bias. I would be just as critical if representatives of the Labour party, Lib Dems or the Greens condoned a left wing van man's loutish behaviour.

Maremia Thu 21-May-26 20:33:51

I don't think any woman deserves hassle.

Cossy Thu 21-May-26 20:35:34

Why on earth would anyone be surprised at Farage’s and Reforms response?

Farage makes one helluva of a fuss when people do it to him, it’s not banter then, is it.

I’m no fan of RR and I think she should have just ignored it and walked away.

We had thread this week about a woman doing her job in a doctors’ surgery being sworn at and abused by other women.

www.gransnet.com/forums/chat/1358416-I-despair-for-society?pg=2

Everyone was in agreement about how appalling that was. I pointed out that it was a criminal offence under the Public Order Act.

Yet when the same thing is done to another woman doing her job by men in a van bedecked with England flags and Reform MPs (plus the ubiquitous unelected Yusuf) applaud the behaviour, it’s fine is it? A political party tipped to win the next general election applauding the public abuse of women.

No person going about their job should be subjected to the foul language and abuse of street yobs.

Shame on people, especially women, who think this is acceptable.

Grandmabatty Thu 21-May-26 20:40:42

Thank you Graphite.

What difference does it make that she’s a woman?
We are all equal now. It’s 2026.
You know the irony about this is, if a woke lefty green voting person shouted something similar to Nigel Farage you’d all be cheering him.

You are making a big assumption and making a sweeping statement without any evidence to support your blatant political bias.

I can only speak for myself but as I said further back in this thread, I would condemn such behaviour from any man (or woman) whatever their political persuasion.

JPB123 Thu 21-May-26 21:55:38

I really dislike Reform.What a horrible,bunch.

Surely you don't believe that?
Not GNs insulting NF.

Does anyone remember John Prescott punching a heckler?

Care to have a look at this GN thread and comment on it? I await with interest.

Just have a look at this current GN thread about young male rapists

feeling entitled ....the likes of current male "influencers"

www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/1358535-A-terrible-crime-unpunished-Imho

So it's "woke" to to object to the way hundreds of thousands of women are still domestically and otherwise abused?
