A British born white man did exactly the same thing a few years ago as the Somali man so what is their point in bringing this up?

I'm sorry also Oreo, not clear about what you mean.
Perhaps you are agreeing that the frequently made point about 'having to take in asylum seekers' is not relevant to the government proposal?

I will spell it out to you then.

The amount of crimes committed by immigrants legal or illegal seems to be disproportionate.

The Ministry for Justice conveniently does not record the ethnicity of perpetrators only the ethnicity of victims.

I have written to my MP asking why this is the case, despite a nudge I have not received a response.

It has been said time and time again on N & P threads that we (the UK) has enough of its home grown criminals without importing more from around the globe.

Sago if currently the ethnicity of criminals isn't recorded, what makes you think immigration is relevant? Ethnicity is not the same as immigration and the two cases mentioned here, one is possibly British born and the other is French.

Surely this is better than all and sundry arriving on boats.

Doesn't this scheme vet people before they travel here? If they have been convicted of a crime in their own country then they won't be accepted.
Surely this is better than all and sundry arriving on boats.

Unfortunately we will probably get people still arriving by boats.

I wouldn't trust the vetting process, neither would I take any stranger into my home, whichever ethnicity they are.

Yes, i hope it could be a way forward, and help people to feel part of a community, which csn only be a good thing.

I'm sure all of us agree that something has to be done about irregular immigration.
Nothing will be perfect but I will give this scheme a chance before condemning it.

My understanding is that various organisations, such as universities and churches, will be able to sponsor people. My understanding is that the organisations will be responsible for finding accommodation and work. Their reputation will be on the line, if the people they sponsor commit crimes. In the case of universities, the people sponsored will be mainly academics, so the institutions can employ them themselves.

It will only involve a small number of people, so I don't know what the fuss is about. They will have no reason to destroy their paperwork and will already have been vetted.

The scheme will give a small number of people the opportunity to come to the UK legitimately and probably be a benefit to the country. It will also strengthen the case for others to be returned because the Home Office will be able to direct people to legitimate schemes.

This new proposal by Shabina Mahmood isn’t going to stop the rubber boats. They are not the migrants who will be applying anyway! They throw away their passports, pretend they are gay etc so they will not be the ones ‘form filling and applying via fast track measures’. The boats will still keep coming as they are a different cohort altogether.

But they will still come!

As there will be a safe and legal route for asylum seekers I hope those turning up on boats will be sent back to their own country straight away.
This will stop the gangs who enable the illegal passage of immigrants.
