Rochdale - Grooming gang leader released from jail today

Andy Burnham would like to see him deported, I think it would be a real coup if he could somehow find a way to reverse the legislation that would allow this appalling man, the grooming gang leader, convicted of 30 rapes to remain here. Although I don't hold out too many hopes on that happening, any thoughts on the matter.

The letter of the law seems to be scrupulously observed in the cases of these sick individuals, what can or cannot be done in law is meticulously observed in the intent of showing the law to be robust, firm and unequivocal when applied to them, no stone going unturned to ensure the treatment of these child rapists is fair, just and carried out to the letter.

Where was this shining, scrupulous, robust justice system when the families of these children were begging the law to take action to prevent their daughters being trafficked and abused? When the children themselves were reporting these horrific crimes and ignored, told to go away and, mind blowingly unbelievable in some cases, returned to the perpetrators so the crimes of abuse could continue unabated? When the mighty power of the law was used against them.

I guess they were only worthless kids, random young wrong 'uns, tiresome repeat nuisances not worth the bother.

The country has to agree to have him.
Unlikely to want him.

Then that country, Pakistan, can have visa applications of those wishing to come here revoked, I imagine that's pretty much a one way traffic. I believe I've read about Australia sending a criminal or two back here, having hardly lived in the UK.

Sunshinegirls Tue 07-Jul-26 11:45:48

Why didn't they just leave him in prison to serve his full sentence, no person convicted of rape, murder or terror related etc should be let out of prison early. Why not just release white collar related criminals ie fraud etc who are not a danger to the general public.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 11:56:24

I wish the media would call it for what it is and stop using euphemisms such as ‘grooming’ and ‘Asian gangs’.

This was child rape.
By Pakistanis.-

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 11:58:13

There are (I think) over 40 countries comprised of Asia.

Sri Lankans didn't do it...Philipinos weren't involved...no Japanese to our knowledge....

It sickens me to be honest how we pussy foot around.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 12:01:53

othing will be done. There will be a few noises for a week or two then it will be quietly dropped, probably under cover of a Burnham coronation with great fanfares to distract us all.

No wonder Maggie Oliver despairs.
That goes for many of us too. The silent majority.

Sunshinegirls Tue 07-Jul-26 12:22:04

And these rape gangs are apparently still operating ruining young girls lives. The corruption and rot/cover up must go high up in goverment imop.

Sadiq Khan pretends not to understand what is meant by grooming gangs. Shameful!

He sticks his fingers in his ears and goes “la,la la.”
He is absolutely hopeless and avoids the truth.

Grooming was a key element of the crime and conviction. Grooming involves manipulation and considers whether it was part of organised Child Sex Exploitation which it was. Thus this was a key factoring his sentencing which at 21 years was higher than the tariff for rape, between 6 and 19 years.

That he was a gang leader also was an aggravating factor that contributed to his 21 year life sentence. Since his actions we know the authorities have moved forward in understanding CSE- as we know the police at the time, 2009, made some terrible judgements e.g. some victims may have been under age prostitutes.

The press picked up on the judge's sentencing remarks at time of conviction no doubt and the label has stuck. The label does have the benefit however of spelling out the risks of CSE and grooming and that men can operate in gangs- to vulnerable young girls.

He has to go, to do otherwise sends out the entirely wrong message.
Unfortunately as with the majority of sex offenders I imagine this man will just start offending again, is a compulsion.
Those who are home grown should be imprisoned for life or chemically castrated and those from other countries should be deported.
Zero tolerance.

I completely agree!

There is a groundswell of action around this shameful, shameful abandonment of this country's children but is it too little, too late.

This person was the ringleader, organising from his Rocdale Council desk the logistics of getting a £20 per head fee to rape a child. He did it with impunity, without fear.
How?

This individual knows where the bodies are buried, knows names, dates, contacts. Isn't it strange that after years of inaction, of lost files, of cover ups and simply, blatantly ignoring all the horror that the establishment now want him hurriedly deported as a matter of utmost urgency. If he gets deported the opportunity to have him stood up in court to be questioned about who, what, when and where will be lost forever.

It stinks.

MT62 Tue 07-Jul-26 17:40:47

He will never be deported, don’t know who they are trying to kid.
Took years & years for hooky to be deported, whilst his whole family lived in a nice council property down London.
I hope this guy messes up his parole (I don’t mean to sexually assault any young girl) but something that will revoke his license.
Hopefully send him where Huntley served his sentence.

Casdon Tue 07-Jul-26 17:49:28

He has lived in the UK for over 55 years. Why would Pakistan volunteer to take back a criminal who was the citizen of another country and had lived there for over 55 years? The UK wouldn’t in a similar scenario, and I would bet that there are plenty of equally repulsive British sleazes in Thailand, for example.

Oh I bet there is Casdon.
I heard Glitter was on his way out (dying). I think great 👍🏻

MT62 Tue 07-Jul-26 18:20:33

I had a friend who started courting this bloke, both mid 50s.
He was never away from Thailand.
I am not saying going with youngsters, but maybe young woman for sex.
I said I would not touch him with a barge pole!
Something not right there.

Galaxy Wed 08-Jul-26 20:55:54

He is being deported.

Galaxy Wed 08-Jul-26 20:56:27

Sorry I am jumping the gun a bit there. They are changing the law in order that he can be deported.

Cossy Wed 08-Jul-26 21:16:49

14 years served of a 41 year sentence, whilst his victims will live with the psychological scars for a lifetime.
The law is an ass.

It is indeed. Chemical castration??

Hope Shamima Mahmood achieves this but won’t hold my breath. I really hope I’m wrong though.

Tuliptree Wed 08-Jul-26 22:23:06

Cossy - it was a 22 year sentence as has already been said. He was released after serving two thirds on licence which is the current system whether we like it or not

NotSpaghetti Wed 08-Jul-26 23:44:19

I thought it was 19 years and he served 14?

NotSpaghetti Wed 08-Jul-26 23:52:08

I've looked this up and of course remember now that there were two trials.

Trial 1 (May 2012): He was convicted alongside the rest of the Rochdale grooming gang for conspiracy and child sex offenses. For these crimes he got 19 years.

Trial 2 (August 2012): he was tried separately for a massive string of 30 rapes against a single young Asian girl that spanned over a decade. For these crimes, a different judge sentenced him to 22 years.

The terms were concurrent so he was now due for release.
