The Army has sent in its bomb squad after several men were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences near an RAF base.

A major incident has been declared and residents have been evacuated from “a number” of homes in the Whelford area, near RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire.

Several men have been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act.

RAF Fairford hosts United States air force personnel and has been used to launch operations against Iran during the war in the Middle East.

Gloucestershire Police said the Army’s specialist explosive ordnance disposal team were at the scene examining vehicles.

A police cordon is in place at the scene. Officers said the incident was “contained”.

... young British males, London...
100/1 they are Far Left; Pro Palestinian activists, very anti US. High on virtue signalling, care little for locals as they are probably seen as right wing bigots.

The pictures show 3 white men and 2 of other ethnicity BBC Verified.

Lunch time R4 news, makes it clear - to summarise bits and bobs from above

...........The Secret Services from both the UK and US knew "something was going to happen". The 20 minute response armed counter terror unit could have not arrived in that time without prior warning

.....No explosives have yet been found....

.....that the 5 people could have been recruited to do something as a paid job.

This was noted to have happened before and money traced to Russia in another case - or of course it could be the Iranian Secret Services shelling out to buy fear (if indeed explosives were every actually found, or it was the threat of them that mattered, or the 5 men involved failed to deliver.

Or it could have been an "agent provocateur" paying (thats purely my speculation based on the fact that counter intelligence has run operations historically) to stir up trouble and fear. The CIA have done this relatively recently in Latin America (the Contra Scandal).

Lucy Connoley refused bail.because of a tweet. Danny Tommo refused bail.trying to stop the boats invading our shores. But heyho terrorist suspects released on bail. If that's not 2 tier justice I don't know what is.

I doubt this. It has not been flagged up as a possibility by any reliable source.

It's open season on GN for conspiracy theories just now.
Cheers.

Susieq62 Mon 28-Sept-26 16:25:42

Now released on bail 🤷‍♀️ speculation, speculation, speculation!,

Susieq62 Mon 28-Sept-26 16:29:39

I reckon they were fuel thieves or poachers 🤪

Mrs. Burnham can position herself all she likes but there is no such position as First Lady.
She is simply the Prime Minister's wife.

It’s interesting how you cannot get close to Flylingdales, Menwith Hill, Centrica at Easington etc etc.

There are MP/security patrolling these sites 24/7, if you even slow down in your car the cameras are on you.

Yet it seems a Fairford was fairly easily accessible.

I have no idea what is going on, I do however think it’s fishy to say the least.

Rocknroll5me Mon 28-Sept-26 16:54:50

well Wyllow3 what has been flagged up? other than they are on bail...which makes little sense to anyone. Dont underestimate the passion of the Far Left or the new Greens.

Maremia Mon 28-Sept-26 16:55:06

Was that what Daniel Thomas was accused of?
I thought it was criminal damage?

Cruiselover Mon 28-Sept-26 17:00:49

So the men have been released on bail... Tbh they looked more like a boy band than terrorists, so begs the question where are the many men that the 'farmer' saw dressed all in black... These 5 have been scapegoats, UK is in deep 💩 , the government lie to us, the media lie to us.
Saying hurty words or throwing a plastic bottle will get you prison time, whilst the UK is becoming Jihadi central .

Casdon Mon 28-Sept-26 17:02:06

All along we have been told not to jump to conclusions, and yet here some of you are, still doing it. On the basis of all we really know as fact, they may yet not turn out to be terrorists at all. If they prove not to be, a lot of people and media outlets are going to look right numpties.

Wyllow3 Mon 28-Sept-26 17:02:25

If you want to blame someone, blame Trump for starting this appalling mess off which gave Netanyahu a chance to push ahead on Lebanon, the West Bank and continuing to starve and deny medical support in Gaza. I know a lot of activists on Palestine and they are engaged in either raising money to help people in Gaza or demonstrating out side the Labour conference as in

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c933kx42np4xo

I think you are demonising a group of people without knowing them really.

The danger to people on bases has only come as a result of Trump's war with Iran and the knock on effects of the closing of the Strait of Hormuz, and our bases being used as launch pads.

He's been proved correct with the number of boats coming over, he was one of the first in the channel recording this. Google and watch it.

I don’t need to, he partially caused this situation himself, due to pushing and pushing for a Brexit referendum and then running a rather one sided campaign. Think UKIP, think The Brexit Party, all of which morphed into The Reform “Party”/Limited Company.

Many of us “know” of Mr Farage since his MEP days, when he “grifted” just as much as he does now, with one of the lowest attendance and voting record in the MEP Parliament as he does in the HoC.

I’m not disputing he’s right about some things nor that MPs often laugh about him in parliament.

He’s an extremely unpopular MP in all parties bar his own, which is actually quite unusual, as often all the “blustering” rather pathetic behaviour from all MPs partywide within the HoC, however often outside these doors they’re normally quite civilised.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 well said Cossy

Now released on bail 🤷‍♀️ speculation, speculation, speculation!,

So it's doubtful there were explosives.

If it's been organised as a a secret service inside job as an attempt to gain support for Trump at the mid terms it would come as no surprise to me (since we are having a good old speculation 🙄)

Or perhaps by the Far Right in order to prove we need more money spent on defence? 🤷‍♂️

Hold your horses.
From Sky News:

'Quick' release of suspects suggests lack of clear evidence of terrorism, analyst says
The relatively "quick" release of the Fairford case suspects tells us there is "no clear evidence or indication of terrorism", says policing commentator Graham Wetton.
It also suggests there may not be any clear evidence of explosives or terrorism-related materials in the vans.
"Maybe they were asked to go there to do something else, just to test the security response," Wettone tells presenter Jayne Secker.
It doesn't mean the arrests were wrong, however, he adds.

That’s quite likely I should think.Palestine Action for instance are not only extremists but have form for this kind of thing.
Saying they are British nationals doesn’t mean much, other than they were either born here or granted nationality.
If there is evidence that they were planning a crime would they have been given bail?

Maremia Mon 28-Sept-26 17:40:48

And yet, with all of these theories, some folk sure are.
