The Army has sent in its bomb squad after several men were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences near an RAF base.

A major incident has been declared and residents have been evacuated from “a number” of homes in the Whelford area, near RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire.

Several men have been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act.

RAF Fairford hosts United States air force personnel and has been used to launch operations against Iran during the war in the Middle East.

Gloucestershire Police said the Army’s specialist explosive ordnance disposal team were at the scene examining vehicles.

A police cordon is in place at the scene. Officers said the incident was “contained”.

Sure are what Maremia ?

Maremia

And yet, with all of these theories, some folk sure are.

It’s actually making me laugh, I feel we are in a parallel universe. What is wrong with waiting to be informed officially instead of wild speculation?

Making things up Oreo

This is very weird, I suspect it might be something embarrassing. You tend not to release people suspected of terrorism on bail.

Wyllow3 Mon 28-Sept-26 18:22:50

Agree.

eazybee Mon 28-Sept-26 18:34:45

This situation does not make me laugh.

I reckon they were fuel thieves or poachers 🤪

Yeah - I think they might turn out to be a gang who steals fuel from farming vehicles

This situation does not make me laugh.

It’s the weird speculative comments on this thread that make me laugh, not the situation. Why do people fill fact voids by making things up?

IMO not terrorists. Fuel thieves which Gloucester police have been trying to find for a while. Vans contained empty barrels/water butts.

I think that makes sense.

Beginning to make even more sense.

Wyllow3 Mon 28-Sept-26 19:28:55

Perhaps 2 different events coincided (serious momentary thought )

fuel thieves,

but intelligence had information that a major attack was in planning.

so the two were conflated.

(but would Londoners be stealing fuel in that area?)

Whitewavemark2 Mon 28-Sept-26 19:40:16

Well it may not be fuel thieves, but thieves operate miles from their homes, that is perfectly normal.

Doodledog Mon 28-Sept-26 19:42:14

Goodness knows, but bringing Lucy Connolly and 'Tommo' into everything is going way beyond speculation.

One was jailed for incitement to murder/terrorism and the other for criminal damage/causing danger to life.

What that has to do with a gang of young men who have not been charged and set free after a day or two is far from obvious without wild flights of fancy.

There was talk about disinformation on the Wargame thread. At times I think we see it on here.

Galaxy Mon 28-Sept-26 19:43:55

Imagine if you were nicking some fuel and suddenly got swept up in an anti terrorism operation.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 28-Sept-26 19:46:40

They will talk about it for years

Our food prices rise by £6.95 billion a as a direct result of Brexit.
But of course, as Farage lies without shame about everything. Also how were the boats going to be stopped without France?

Imagine if you were nicking some fuel and suddenly got swept up in an anti terrorism operation.

If that's what happened I'm sure it's taught then the error of their ways😂

The ones who “thwarted the attack” ,if that’s what it was ,was a women who was returning home to her farm, saw the men and rand the Fetford air base. There was no reply to her call, so she dialled 999. What a fiasco!!!
This did not fill me with relief that we are kept safe.
We must ,as civilians, keep our eyes and ears alert to any
suspicious circumstances.

^Donald Trump has praised the arrests of the five men as "fantastic".
The US president briefly spoke to reporters in Illinois before heading to the President's Cup at Medinah Country Club, adding that the men were "looking to do big damage".
Trump said that Washington working alongside London "worked out great".
"We had them under review for a long time and we got them," he said before leaving^

If fuel thieves, what on earth is Trump talking about.
And if they were under review, why have they been released.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 28-Sept-26 20:19:08

Trump says that he would not have released the alleged offenders.

Someone needs to remind him that I’m the U.K. we keep to the rule of law.

Wyllow3 Mon 28-Sept-26 20:30:35

Indeed. 🙄

From “I”

“The suspects, who are all British nationals aged in their twenties and from London, were arrested over potential terror offences in Whelford, Gloucestershire, in the early hours of Sunday.
They were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and later on suspicion of terrorism offences, after a villager dialled 999 when she saw three vans and a group of masked men near the base.
Dozens of homes had to be evacuated as bomb disposal teams were called in and a cordon remains in place. Home secretary Shabana Mahmood said on Monday afternoon that Whelford residents will shortly be able to return home.”

Whatever you do, don’t listen to Nigel Farage on this, as he has made a prize pillock of himself today. Maximilian Robespierre has a clip of a post Farage made this afternoon, on YouTube if anybody wants to see how wrong he has been proved to be.
