It seems that over the tv this evening people have been saying "off of" or "for free"! It's doing my head in as we used to say-I have even started shouting at the screen. I have become my father

"Can I get?" would be very slightly more acceptable if followed by "please"!

I've only recently joined Gransnet and came across this section and this thread and I LOVE it. A place for pedants to be pedantic without criticism - lovely! I read through the whole thread.

Another two of my bugbears which don't seem to be covered are: prevaricate and procrastinate. Many use the former when they mean the latter.

The other two are infer and imply. Again people use the former when they mean the latter.

In both cases they don't understand the meanings of the words.

Pleased to have somewhere to say this smile and no-one will think I'm odd.
