Poorly dog

I use a fleese with Velcro winter jacket for my scared dog. It works and was much cheaper than a thunder jacket. she is very scared of rain storms.She shakes,pants and tries to hid behind the furniture without it.

Not sure about sizing for a whippet; her coats have to be made by a specialist sighthound companies. Mind you, I'll try anything if it works as I'm scared to even go out and leave her alone at this time of year. She was a jibbering wreck last week because someone was hammering in a nearby house. Other than that she's one of the most laid back dogs I've ever had; not a bother on her 99% of the time.

I could cope if it was only 5 November or even the weekend before or after but I have heard fireworks already and although Grace just about tolerates them for a short while I worry that she will become more sensitive. BTW do you remember a former member getting very incensed and demanding draconian penalties?

As well as the lump Hattie is now coughing when she goes for a walk [had the kennel cough vaccine last week]. Starting to get more concerned; the vet said give it a few weeks but I know it will end up with blood tests etc. There is a specialist sight hound vets a few miles away that I might go to for advice; people travel from all over the country to see him [he works at lots of dog tracks as well].

Day 6 of Nell's medicine regime and she is giving me withering looks from her basket! The routine is that she has her medicines crushed and stirred into delicious gravy with a little meat, then I give her the rest of her food. She doesn't hold with this arrangement! Now she's turned her back on me - she must know I'm talking about her. Stubborn Bassett!

I chopped up a little baked ham and sprinkled it over her medicated food. Apparently she approves of that, so has eaten it all. Another minor Basset-human skirmish is over, till tomorrow.

Has anyone else had a dog that had kennel cough symptoms straight after having the vaccine? Hattie has never had the vaccine before but, as we're planning to go away more now I've retired we had it done as part of her booster two weeks ago. She been coughing/reverse sneezing ever since. Going to give it a few more days and go back to the vets [I have spoken to them but they don't seem to think it's due to the nasal drops she had; but it must be].

I've known dogs to get kennel cough when they've had their vaccination because there's kennel cough around already. My vet says the vaccination helps reduce the symptoms if they still get it. My dog has it every year, as I don't want to deal with a dog hawking up all over the place for several weeks. Once you've had a dog with kennel cough, you never want it again if it can be avoided. She just doesn't come into any contact with other dogs at all [except when she's on holiday and meets them on the beach]. I think whats worrying me is the lump and the cough but we're not due back at the vets for a couple of weeks. I may give her some cough medicine [I know there's one that dogs can have] and I've been giving her piriton in case it's an allergy.

Hi! I've only joined Gransnet today and this is the first forum I've looked at - BUT - I too have a dog with wee problems. Pixie, our mini dachshund, woke us last Tuesday at 2.30am desperate to go out, then proceeded to wee everywhere that morning. A quick trip to the vet resulted in 2 injections and 2 lots of pills - which finish tomorrow. Wees (and blood in them) have dried up so hopefully all well. Tablets given in husband's porridge (ugh!) and others in sugared tea. Please post how Nell is now. Fingers crossed for both.

Hi demdyke nice to meet another dog-lover. Thanks for asking, Nell is fine and there have been no repercussions. She had recovered completely within a couple of days. I'm glad I caught it quickly.

Glad Nell is OK now, hope Pixie will be once she comes off tablets. Must remember never to check Google again when she is ill ... what it ciould be etc. Husband still eats porridge annodomini, just shares it with Pixie!!
