There's life in the old dog yet...

I have an 'elderly' neutered male dog. My DD has a young female Jack Russell who's on her first heat. We look after her for a couple of hours a day as they both work full time.

I was horrified when I looked out my kitchen window onto my back garden to see them coupled, back to back. I didn't think it was possible with a neutered male. The poor old fellow is now walking very strangely.

Did anyone else know this was possible?

Sorry if this is TMI for our more sensitive GNetters hmm

Well he'll not be able to be a Daddy will he Anya? Maybe he's strained something with the energy expended? You could always ring the vet and ask if he should be checked over.

The hussy dragged him backwards under our trampoline!

I'll give him an hour Gaga and if he's still walking strangely I'll call the vet. Poor old dog!

Blimey anya maybe his "operation" left a bit behind?!

gringrin, bet he thought all his Christmas' had come at once!
Poor old chap, hope that hasn't finished him off but at least he'll be a happy chappy!

merlotgran Wed 07-Jan-15 17:15:11

Anya. Try a cold bath.....The dog, I mean grin

I'm wondering if pompa's ever been dragged backwards under a trampoline. shock

The mind boggles!!

loopylou Wed 07-Jan-15 17:19:34

Merlot! Don't put ideas in his head, poor Mrs Pompa ....

Lona Wed 07-Jan-15 17:25:43

Stop it please!! grin
It's pompa who's to blame for posting about his ring!

Lona Wed 07-Jan-15 17:26:34

Every dog has his day grin

loopylou Wed 07-Jan-15 17:30:20

Thank goodness it isn't pompa's dog ......and that they weren't on the trampoline, goodness knows what damage he may have sustained shock

Nelliemoser Wed 07-Jan-15 17:46:16

How on earth can a male and female dog get coupled back to back?? a diagram is needed!

pompa Wed 07-Jan-15 17:48:13

Ouch ! To put the record straight :-
I don,t have a dog
I don't have a trampoline
It was Richard that started posting about rings.
I can't confirm if Mrs. P has been dragged under a trampoline, she doesn't tell me everything.

Nelliemoser Wed 07-Jan-15 18:14:44

pompa grin Your certainly should not be getting dragged under a trampoline with your new knee!

ninathenana Wed 07-Jan-15 18:22:57

Nellie the male mounts in the way you would expect but as coupling progresses he steps over her and they finish the deed back to back. It's not classed as a true mating if this stage isn't reached smile

Elegran Wed 07-Jan-15 18:26:42

Nellie I don't think they start back-to-back. They "seize up" for some time afterwards, and when they try to disengage they get into odd positions. drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/neutered-male-dogs-can-still-have-sex

Nelliemoser Wed 07-Jan-15 18:54:54

Thanks Elegran So! the poor dogs willie gets bent backwards. My mind is boggling! No wonder he cant walk properly.

NelliemWanders off to out her sausages under the now hot grill.

loopylou Wed 07-Jan-15 19:00:01

Nelliem you've just made me choke on and spill my glass of cheap bargain red wine all down my front!

merlotgran Wed 07-Jan-15 19:03:24

Wasn't it Noel Coward who told a child that the reason one dog had just mounted another was that the one in front was blind so his friend was pushing him all the way to St. Dunstans? grin

annsixty Wed 07-Jan-15 19:17:45

Oh love it merlot I had heard that before but didn't know who said it.

annsixty Wed 07-Jan-15 19:28:47

I have just been reminded of one morning a few months ago when I looked out of the kitchen window and saw a most peculiar shape at the bottom of the lawn.It was so odd I rubbed my eyes and looked harder,I realised it was two foxes mating and I saw the appropriatness(sp?) of the expression "the beast with two backs"..DH refused my request to go out and throw a bucket of water on them.I don't know whether he didn't want to spoil the moment or was scared.

Elegran Wed 07-Jan-15 19:29:29

#sings "They were only playing leapfrog . . . ." to the tune Glory Glory Alleluya

pompa Wed 07-Jan-15 19:33:43

That reminds me of the old joke about the old lady that threw a bucket of water over a tandem as they pedalled past.

Anya Wed 07-Jan-15 22:58:19

I started a perfectly respectable thread and when I return....blush

Update, the old dog not only revived but seemed to be up for a second helping. So I took The Hussy back to her house. I was only grateful it didn't happen on Monday when all four GC were here shock

Now my dilemma .. do I tell my daughter her dog has been deflowered or do I keep schtum?
