It seems that vets almost always tell us our pets are overweight. Supposedly my cats are. I will admit that Bugsie is a fat lump, but Saffron is still sleek. I adjusted their food to the quantity for the desired weight rather than their existing weight, but they don't even eat it all. Each had lost about half a kilo on the last visit, but were described as still being 'porkers' 
In the past we were told that cats regulate their own intake, unlike dogs. I don't think this applies any more.
annsixty, I hope the dietician isn't expensive, seems a bit over the top!
