Poor little Minou

Early this Summer we noticed a young Siamese cross cat lurking around with a front leg hanging off. We were really upset, but he disapperared and we thought he had died. Then just before we went off to Italy - he re-appeared- the leg had fallen off and it looked awfuls and so sore. I fed him and watered him and made him a nice den in the garden shed- but he was very wild and scared and I couldn't get anywhere near him. Thank goodness my lovely neighbour agreed to look after him whilst we were away. I went to the vet and asked him what to do- and his reply was 'let nature take its course- cats can survive major injuries if they have shelter, food and water' so we did.

Lately he has been coming to the kitchen door to 'beg' first thing in morning and early evening- and I've been talking to him a lot- and recently he's got closer and closer. 3 days ago, I cooked him some fish, and, with head bent down and hand out stretched, sitting on kitchen doorstep - I put fish in my hand and waited. He made a lot of calling noises- but finally took the plunge and I felt him taking the food from my hand. Yesterday I was able to cuddle his head- and tonight - after his sachet of cat food, I did the same with fish in my hand- and he ended up on my lap and purring for the first time.

Very moving- I cried to be honest. Stump is still very red but seems to be granualting and tissue growing well around it. Hopefully he will be inside before really cold weather and snow comes- but neighbour and myself will be spending a few hours this week-end making a much warmer and waterproof den to put at the back of shed. And hopefully we will soon be able to catch it to take to the vet to see if anything can be done to help. Bless his little cotton paws.

One of ours had ear mites. Drove him mad, but quite easy to get rid of.

Our dog used to get ear mites and they drove him crackers. Drops from the vet and gentle cleaning out with Q tips used to do the trick.

I've only just seen this thread and do hope Minou is progressing well. I have an English friend in Tunisia to whom all the stray cats navigate. She has six in the house plus countless feral cats she feeds. It costs her and her husband a small fortune as they invariably turn up on her doorstep needing urgent treatment from the vet. She also has a large German Shepherd who takes the cats in his stride. ?

Fast asleep on the settee next to me- after spending 1 hour on DH's lap whom he has now adopted and tamed ( the cat not him... or?). Ear mites treated and he has calmed down- scar doing so well, so no cone collar required.

He regularly asks to go out- we open kitchen door and he looks at the snow- looks disgusted and comes back in- 10 times a day. He is massively cute and totally settled and in no pain at last. Sweet.

What a joy to find him so well on our return from y 3 week trip to the Cape. My neighbour did a great job.

He had to be treated foe ear mites before we left- and whislt away the fur on his ears started to go, so she went to vet and he diagnosed ring worm! Not sure about it myself- I think it is more likely to be an allergic reaction to the earmite treatment- but he is on a treatment for 25 days, just in case.

But all the fur has grown back on his amputated shoulder and it looks very 'natural' and he is so happy. Put on weight, and has become very playful and purrs like a locomotive and so so cuddly. He has even become fussy with his food ... the little blighter. When we found him he was eating potatoe peel and prawn shells from the compost!

Anyhow, a joy and a great success. Granchildren just can't wait to meet him. My dream is that him and 23 year old Pudding become friends- but somehow I don't think that will happen. He is keen- but she defo isn't having any of it.

Not going anywhere until mid Jan when we will come to UK to visit GCs, daughters, family and friends (and shopping hurrah) - so plenty of time to continue the bonding process - but it's amazing how quickly it went from terrified wild skinny thing in pain - to our Minou.

So pleased to hear about his transformation. I'm glad he's forgiven you for leaving him for so long. Our previous cat used to be very huffy with us and wouldn't speak to us for ages.
Luckily our current one is just pathetically pleased to see us. Mind you, that makes us feel ten times more guilty!
Here he is relaxing in front of the fire.

Minou is very lucky to have found such kind humans, so happy for you all

Just read all of this. Can I whisper that I'm not a 'cat person', have never spent time with one as Mr C is seriously allergic to all cats and most dogs, but this story has brought a tear. So pleased for Minou and in awe of your patience and understanding of cats, granjura. I'm looking forward now to reading more. Good wishes to you all.

I am so stooopid - I know how to take photos with i-pad and post to FB- but how do I post here sad oh dear the shame!

Very simila, but Minou has shorter hair (so so soft- like double layer, never had a cat so soft) and ... well, one less leg ;).

Click on the attachment symbol and browse the photos you have stored. Then click on the one you want to post. Can't wait to see Minou!
If a very soft triple layer of fur maybe part Ragdoll or Birman? Both gorgeous cats.

Little Minou is so happy on his 3 legs- if he got a 4th I don't think he'd know what to do with it. Fur all grown back and it looks so natural.

The 2 doggies on loan arrived yesterday- and we have managed to put gates up the stairs and betw. lounge and kitchen/utility- so Minou has his domain, and Pudding hers- and Zimba and Emma in the lounge with us and the back corridor. There has been a bi of huffing and barking-but it's working so well so far. Whether they will actually make friends and all get to sleep as a 3some- is not sure yet- but ... you never know, lol. Walking the dogs lots so they are exhausted when indoors - a greeat incentive for my knee too.

Doggies with us until we go to UK mid Jan - and then perhaps again on a more permanent basis, as long as the young couple are prepared to have them back when we want to travel. That would be the perfect solution. See how it goes.

So this Christmas will be dogs and cats and long walks, instead of the usual wonderful and lovely family madness, too much food and drink. Looking forward to it - and we will see all the family in Jan.

Merci Lillie, de même x

Jane10 we are rpoceeding very cautiously ;) We had no intention of having another cat until Pudding had left us- but Minou just couldn't be left in such pain and something has to be done- so here he is.

We were at this young couple from Danemark last week- and it was clear they were struggling to cope. They asked me if we ever intended having another dog, and I said we were going to put ads at the local SPAs and our vet- asking for another couple to adopt 2 dogs that get on, and arrange to have each other's when we want to travel where we can't take her/him.
She burst into tears and asked could we have theirs for a while- to give them a breather (we had them for short hols before) - as she felt she just couldn't look after them properly at the moment. So we stepped up to the mark. They will have them back mid Jan when we go to UK- and then we will get together and see what we do next- have them both here, as long as they have them back when we want to travel- or we might try and see if they can cope being split up. We would have the most boisterous male- as we can give him proper training and exercise- and they would keep the very docile little female. Wait and see...

But no- no aditions planned... as we want our freedom and the very best for any animal we take responsibility for.
