Poor little Minou

Early this Summer we noticed a young Siamese cross cat lurking around with a front leg hanging off. We were really upset, but he disapperared and we thought he had died. Then just before we went off to Italy - he re-appeared- the leg had fallen off and it looked awfuls and so sore. I fed him and watered him and made him a nice den in the garden shed- but he was very wild and scared and I couldn't get anywhere near him. Thank goodness my lovely neighbour agreed to look after him whilst we were away. I went to the vet and asked him what to do- and his reply was 'let nature take its course- cats can survive major injuries if they have shelter, food and water' so we did.

Lately he has been coming to the kitchen door to 'beg' first thing in morning and early evening- and I've been talking to him a lot- and recently he's got closer and closer. 3 days ago, I cooked him some fish, and, with head bent down and hand out stretched, sitting on kitchen doorstep - I put fish in my hand and waited. He made a lot of calling noises- but finally took the plunge and I felt him taking the food from my hand. Yesterday I was able to cuddle his head- and tonight - after his sachet of cat food, I did the same with fish in my hand- and he ended up on my lap and purring for the first time.

Very moving- I cried to be honest. Stump is still very red but seems to be granualting and tissue growing well around it. Hopefully he will be inside before really cold weather and snow comes- but neighbour and myself will be spending a few hours this week-end making a much warmer and waterproof den to put at the back of shed. And hopefully we will soon be able to catch it to take to the vet to see if anything can be done to help. Bless his little cotton paws.

Well, it has been a long time- so here ar the news.

What a treasure Mnou has turned out to be such a joy and delight - and he gets on really well with Zimba and Emma- still with us but going back to their 'owners' whenever we travel. and Pudding is now 25 and still going strong - but now living exclusively upstairs for peace and quiet. The whole hamlet here has fallen in love with him too- and he visits many households but here is home sweet home. A treasure. He runs around, climbs everywhere- fur has all grown beautifully and he would look all wrong now were he to grow a 4th leg smile <3

How delightful to hear about Minou! I was wondering about him just a couple of weeks ago, when a friend's cat lost a leg in a car accident. Wishing you many more happy years with your cat companions. smile

What a lovely thread. Just read all of it with bated breath as I waited to see how the little fellow was doing. Patience certainly is a virtue. flowers

Me too *ww - I'm so pleased it's good news! Over the months I've wondered how he was doing. Minou is a lucky little cat to have found you Jura!

Lost him tonight- searched everywhere - nothing!?!
Then went to the downstairs loo at the bottom of the (very long) corridor, where the dogs sleep. And something caught my eye in the dog 'igloo' - there he is- Lording it on the sheepskin. He is a right little monkey smile

Aw that's lovely - it's amazing how they adapt without a limb - there was one at my mum's care home some years ago - my dad used to call him Tripod smile. Ferals seem to know when they have found their forever home - mine definitely rules the roost!

Jalima1108 Fri 10-Nov-17 09:50:47

Pleased to have a happy update on Minou - perhaps this should be changed from Poor little Minou to Happy Little Minou - or Lord Minou as he seems to be in charge of the household.

Cherrytree59 Fri 10-Nov-17 11:23:19

I think Lucky Minou would be quite appropriatesmile

Jura nice to see that you are posting on GN again.

jura2 Fri 10-Nov-17 11:46:33

Ah- how kindCherry59. And yes, Jalima1108 - if I could change the title I would. Lord Minou- that is his new name for sure. Going to UK for 2 weeks, but he just loves my great neighbour, so he will be fine. Doggies going back to their righful owners till we get back.

Lillie Fri 10-Nov-17 13:17:16

Bravo Minou! Il est bien bon, celui-là.
I'm sure he will be very resourceful while you are away. He might even pick up more interesting habits!

SueDonim Fri 10-Nov-17 13:29:50

Cats rule, dogs drool! grin

jura2 Fri 10-Nov-17 13:53:31

He is an amazing hunter btw- how he does it with only one front leg I don't know - can we take bets on how many bits of mice will be on the patio by the time we come back sad

Jane10 Fri 10-Nov-17 14:08:45

You will have to eat them at once otherwise you'll hurt his feelings. It's nice that he feels he has to share with you.

jura2 Thu 30-Nov-17 13:56:52

He has changed colour ! So off we go to the UK for a couple of weeks and our wonderful neighbour looks after him and Pudding so well. Return 2 days ago to lots of snow, a fatter Minou- who has turned dark brown ??? Winter coat?

He is sooo cute- any colour.

MissAdventure Thu 30-Nov-17 14:51:02

How strange! I've never heard of that happening.. smile
