I am to have a puppy. All arranged by younger daughter , son in law and son in law who isn't ? Please be happy for Lottie and for me, we are lonely and the home needs joy .

And my physiotherapist agrees

I remember the young lad who was the son of the people who owned the kennels we used to use years ago. He had a Jack Russell puppy called Effie who was a really naughty dog (not nasty naughty) and she got her name from how often he called her that Effin dog (excuse my language)! tchgrin

They can be little nightmares , I am now checking every room for wires. Having an area by the back door fenced off, don't want to search for a white puppy in a snowdrift and lot of winter to come. Have to find new home for house plants in fire grate and clear shelf of rather large coffee table of books and papers , heek

Lovely news, I was thinking Cariad as I scrolled through page 1 then saw that you were considering it! Or what about Myfanwy, Myfi for short. I expect you’ll know what she should be called as soon as you see her! Lots of luck with her.

Overthehills Mon 11-Dec-17 15:08:50

Lovely new Anniebach! Think of all that fun with the Christmas’s wrapping paper! tchwink

Anniebach Mon 11-Dec-17 15:36:17

Not Myfanwy, that's my song every time Wales loses at rugby , and such the most beautiful song but makes me cry ?

craftynan Mon 11-Dec-17 15:39:14

Sorry, Annie sad

Anniebach Mon 11-Dec-17 15:58:25

Aw craftynan, it was a lovely thought, so kind, you were not to know it was my lullaby, my childrens and grandchildrens lullaby , and when a little! younger drove everyone mad in the rugby club with my rendition of Myfanwy, I stopped when my grandson said - your not going to sing Myfanwy again if we lose are you? blush

A little while after my DH died,my daughter , unexpectedly, turned up with a puppy.
For some unknown reason,as soon as I laid eyes on it , I called it Derek.
It turned out to be a male but ,evenso ,had it been female I would not have changed the name. After all ,they don't know what sex they are,do they?

Daisynance123 Mon 11-Dec-17 17:05:07

Meant to say Anniebach, I wish you great joy with the new member of the family.
My dear Derek is now 11years old and, like me ,has arthritis but only a little ( unlike me!). On this freezing cold day ,he and I are tucked up warmly in front of a blazing fire.

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 11-Dec-17 17:29:54

Annie I went to the kennels one day and Effie was outside on the window ledge of an upstairs window. She'd been shut in the room while some job was being done and climbed out of a tiny lintel window. Little madam did not like getting left out! tchshock tchgrin

harrysgran Mon 11-Dec-17 17:39:03

That's lovely news I'm sure you will have lots of fun times ahead my wish for the future is when I retire in a few years from now to get myself a little dog cant wait

Daisynance123 Mon 11-Dec-17 17:42:51

I also have a Maine Coone cat ( much the same as having a dog really. If not familiar, do a quick Google!)
Anyway ,HIS name is Doris. Only realised his sex after a couple of months but Doris it's stayed!

Theoddbird Mon 11-Dec-17 17:45:09

Pets do bring joy. I would not be without my two darling cats. Enjoy

CrazyDaisy Mon 11-Dec-17 17:46:29

That's lovely news Annie. Hope the snow melts so you can get your little bundle of mischief home soon. sunshine

Morgana Mon 11-Dec-17 17:58:25

Great news Annie. Enjoy!

Anniebach Mon 11-Dec-17 18:08:26

So a girl named Derek and a boy named Doris, I love this thread , so much love of animals, so much kindness to me and two posters who seem to have pets with a little confusion as to their sexuality , brilliant grin

1974cookie Mon 11-Dec-17 18:09:31

Wonderful news Annie. Nothing like a bundle of fur in the home to make the world feel right again. ???

NannyTee Mon 11-Dec-17 18:14:05

Ahh Anniebach just what you need right now. Enjoy your little bundle of fluff. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Xx

Overthehills Mon 11-Dec-17 21:33:12

You won’t forget to give us regular updates will you Annie? My DMiL had a ginger cat called Violet - till she realised her mistake! Then he became Violent and that suited him much better. As he got older he became Violet again! He was quite a character, if a little confused!
Your little dog will bring you so much happiness.

Nanna58 Mon 11-Dec-17 22:33:22

Great news Anniebach , a dog really is balm for the soul, you will make a great team x

Anniebach Mon 11-Dec-17 22:46:38

I will bore you .overthehill, after my daughters ny greatest love is dogs , I love them around my feet and following me around the house and chats at nights , adore Lottie but she cannot stay awake for a chat, probably bore the little darling to sleep. In my previous house a darling man lived next door to me, he found my talking to the dogs amusing, even doing jobs in the garden I say - time for a cuppa, even tell them who is on the phone , explains Lottie's love of sleep ?

merlotgran Mon 11-Dec-17 22:53:26

she got her name from how often he called her that Effin dog

That reminds me of Jilly Cooper writing years ago that they had a kitten called Ceremony. Whenever guests arrived her husband would greet them with, 'Do come in, make yourselves at home and don't stand on Ceremony!' grin

kwest Mon 11-Dec-17 23:10:31

How lovely for you. I envy you. We have decided not to have any more dogs. I am busy and out a lot which would not be fair to a dog or dogs. My husband loves the fact that it is just 'us' now. It is lovely but I would have more dogs 'in a heartbeat'. However it has to be a joint decision. I know, if I insisted, my husband would let me have anything I wanted, finances permitting. But he means everything to me and he doesn't really want more dogs, so I can't do that to him. I really , really envy you. Enjoy every moment.

Bathsheba Mon 11-Dec-17 23:32:33

Oh Annie I'm so pleased for you, your new pup will really bring some much needed sunshine and happiness into your life. It really is impossible to feel down for long when you have a little furry bundle of fun running around, tripping you up, getting into scrapes. Lucky you! And you deserve some luck smile
(You could call her Meggy, short for Meghan - very topical tcrwink)

cornergran Mon 11-Dec-17 23:45:33

Wonderful, annie and not long to wait.

I’m another dog lover who is dogless at the moment, one day when we stand still for a bit I’d love to share our home with one again. If we had a daughter we were planning to call her Bethan, - Bethy if shortened.

Looking forward to seeing photos and hearing about your life with a puppy. Fun and hard work in equal measure but oh so worth it.
