My beautiful boy got hit by a car last Monday at midnight. I took him to the vets Tuesday, and back again on Wednesday and they did nothing at all for him they just said he looks fine, his tail has abit of swelling but here's some painkillers.

They said to bring him again next Tuesday 29th May and we'll check him again.

I feel like they should have xrayed him there and then...he looked fine but you never know after being hit by a car.

anyway come Friday morning I found him covered in blood so I rushed him back to the vets..He was in so much pain, they then decided to xray him and said his bladder had ruptured and also has a broken tail and it's broken at the top of his spine so all his nerves have been damaged.

They said there wasn't much they could do and said the kindest thing to do is to put him to sleep. So sadly I lost my baby on the 25th May.

I feel so hurt by my vets. I trusted them to do the best by my boy. I feel as though they should have xrayed him on Tuesday when I first took him to the vet, and I did mention this to them and they said even if we xrayed on tuesday it wouldn't of made a difference, the outcome would still be the same.
I feel like my boy would still be here if it wasn't for them. He was only 1 year and 1 month old. I've now lost my best friend.

So sorry for your dreadful loss.

nathanjane - I am so, so sorry - I lost my little girl a few weeks ago, but she was 17 and had a lovely life and I made the decision to have her pts when she went downhill. It was lovely and peaceful and calm. I agree with the majority that x-rays should have been done regardless, and whether it would have been fatal anyway, it might well not have been if prepared for it ....?

123coco - I don't agree that it would be unfair to get another pet once your dear one has sadly passed - wouldn't it be a lovely thing to give an older cat a nicer especially comfortable life than none at all? If you are worried about what would happen should something happen to yourself, then speak to The Cinnamon Trust who will help you with that, and maybe even find you a cat that has lost it's owner and needs another lovely bed to sleep on ... please think about it and take care xx

Didnt have time to read all the replies ...but this is so sad ..I am so so very sorry ! what an awful thing to happen ...I am amazed the Vet would not X ray him when you took him in ..poor thing how awful for him and for you !

Takes a long time to get over this but at least he is not suffering any more ...I hope the Vet apologised at least and did not charge you ...not that that is any consolation !

I do hope you will be able to home another pet who needs a loving home and thereby his legacy of having a loving home can be passed on flowers

How awful. I'm so sad for you. Sending hugs. xx

Fellsidegruffalo Tue 29-May-18 19:11:08

Sending big hugs. I have lost cats to traffic on the road and it’s such a sad way to lose them.

I don’t work in the veterinary world but I do have a relative that does and I would just say that sometimes there are reasons why you would not X-ray a pet for few days - for example, if they needed a sedative to have the X-ray then if the pet is not well enough for an X-ray then they would have to wait. If you ask to speak to a director at the practice to talk through the care your pet received then any good practice would welcome the opportunity to talk through your concerns and feelings.

Xxxx

Fellsidegruffalo Tue 29-May-18 19:14:51

Sorry that should say if your pet is not well enough to have a sedative. X

omg thats awful. you should ask for an apology letter. you are right they should have x-rayed him there and then.i am so sorry for your loss , i know how deep it hurts..have had several cats over the years but tommy my last one died on may 25th 2017. hurt me so much i havent got another one.maybe next time you could get an older indoor cat. yes i know its too soon to say this. but another cat later on will help.you ask why havent i got another one ,well with so many hospital appointments coming up. i cant rely on my brother to cat sit all the time. so i have decided to be cat free for a while.yes i miss my tommy very much....he was 20 at had kidney disease for 4 years from age 16 .but he done well and had fits on the night i had him put to sleep at 2am in the morning. caterham on the hill/surrey emergency vets were real angels in helping me ..and the lovely taxi driver who waited for me ,no fee going back home...i will get another cat but feel i'm not ready for one just yet.you will miss your pet .but hes gone to rainbow bridge and he must be missing you too. read the poem it will help.

Nathanjame - I am so sorry to read this. I am only 49 and am disabled and I have 8 cats - they are such good company. I did have 9, but lost one 18 months ago when she was hit by a car. I am so sorry that your vet let you down. It may not have been appropriate to x-ray your poor boy in the first day or so, but it definitely sounds as though they failed in their initial assessment and may have caused undue suffering. Perhaps you could make an appointment to see the vet in charge, explain your concerns and ask for a review into what happened. Then, you could decide whether or not to take matters further. Obviously nothing can now change the situation, but you did everything you could for your boy; it was others that may have let him down flowers

My lovely fluffy white and grey cat was killed between me popping to the shop, when I left her basking in the sun, to my returning 15 minutes later to be informed by a little girl neighbour that "your cat is dead". It appears that the next door neighbour had liberally sprinkled ant killer powder all round the bottom of her house wall. Just one sniff was all it took, and she died of a brain seizure. I do not understand why it's allowed to sell such stuff, particularly when it is marked KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN SND PETS. What do they (the manufacturers) expect curious animals like cats will do. The same people (now moved) killed my hedgehog who lived under the shed following liberal doses of those blue slug pellets. It seems to escape some people that when a slug eats a poisonous pellet and is in turn eaten by a hedgehog, this means goodby hedgehog. Mine left four blind, hungry orphans crying for their mum. Heartbroken on both counts.

So sorry to hear that. Your poor boy must have been in pain. I'd complain to the vet, and look up online about "governing bodies of vets". The vet sounds VERY incompetent, uncaring and negligent.

I have changed vets a few times, with different cats, as I too had similar experiences and had to have 2 cats put to sleep that could have been treated ( 2 different vet practices).

I wish you well. It's awful when a pet dies, they're one of the family x

KazzaK Tue 29-May-18 22:52:03

How devastating for you, I lost my cat after she was hit by a car so totally sympathise. I do know that it is difficult to tell if a cat has internal injuries. However I think your vet was negligent in the extreme. I had a bad experience with a vet over the way she treated my dog. You should write a letter of complaint to the practice manager, assuming it’s a practice that has one or to the vet direct if not.

I feel so very sad for you, I know what it is like to lose a beloved pet. When you are feeling better go to the vet and ask for an explanation of what was done and not done to help your cat flowers

Alexa Thu 31-May-18 17:27:08

As Cobweb says. I do think that vets ought to actively and honestly say when an animal companion should be euthanised as soon as possible. There is too much officious striving to keep alive.

Theoddbird Thu 31-May-18 17:45:03

Your little friend's precious soul has flown to the rainbow bridge....Hugs for you. Treasure your memories xxx

Millie8 Fri 01-Jun-18 08:49:59

Such a sad situation My little Albie was run over too and all decent pet owners have every sympathy for you. Is your vets part of a conglomerate? They won't want one of their group to be so uncaring so definitely complain. Hope you find comfort in the many photos I bet you have of him. Hope this doesnt sound callous but be maybe in time you could take in a rescue cat in memory of your baby.
Best wishes x

Anyone had dealings with Bloor new build homes?

My son is thinking of buying a Bloor Home which is a new build in Aylesbury. I would be grateful if anyone could give me advice about Bloor and new builds in general, to pass on to him, as I have read some bad reviews about them on line.
Thanks
