This morning our terrier -aged 11- didn’t get out of bed to help me feed the birds as he usually does and I assumed he had a sore paw (long story) left him a while, but after a bit I got concerned as he hadn’t moved and it seems he’s lost the use of his back legs.

We have an appointment with the vet at 11am - I’m dreading it.

Having lost two dogs due to hip dysplasia, common in large dogs, we reached the heartbreaking stage where nothing further could be done. I know only too well how you must be feeling.

I sincerely hope this afternoon has a positive outcome for you and your adorable boy. ??

Keeping my fingers crossed for this afternoon.

Just back from the hospital. Vet met us at the door as Duncan had not been able to walk all day, he had even tried to go to the door when thepostman came and collapsed.

Stephen -vet- carried him in and said he would put him on the floor to see what if any movement he had. Duncan was gently laid onto the floor, got up and walked off!! I nearly died of embarrassment.

Rest assured I shall never start another thread like this it is toe curling ly embarrassing.

Vet reckons he has a sort joint and. it wasn’t a question that he couldn’t rather than he wouldn’t.
He even fooled this mornings vet. Dear oh dear.

So I can only apologise and thank you all for your best wishes and sympathy. You were all lovely as apposed to Duncan who is a little ass.

He is now on more painkillers and observation.!! Actually out with DH in the pouring rain for a poo, and gently exercise. I’ll give him gently exercise!!

PS I went into M&S on the way home and bought a bottle of red and a huge raspberry trifle.

Comfort/celebration food.

Patsy70 Thu 27-Aug-20 17:16:20

That is brilliant news, WWM2, so pleased for you and Duncan (the ass) smile. No need for apologies or embarrassment as I'm sure everyone is delighted with the result. Enjoy your wine and trifle. wine flowers

WW2 Your dog is a comedian. What a little character! Duncan has given me a good laugh. I am so glad he is well.

Jane10 Thu 27-Aug-20 17:43:08

They put us through the wringer these pets of ours! Obviously he rose to the occasion at the vets. Hope he continues to improve.

Smileless2012 Thu 27-Aug-20 17:50:14

No need to apologise WWM2 it's fantastic news that the little monkey is OK.

Grandmafrench Thu 27-Aug-20 18:01:45

Toe-curlingly embarrassing? Nooooo. WWM2 I was so relieved for you and had a really good laugh. Little perisher, he's scammed us all. Now that he's seen us all fall for his acting skills, he'll doubtless be off on some other nonsense to test our nerves and play on our heart strings. Maybe some front wheel problem in the morning as a change from the rear ?!!

But you must be his most favourite pal - he couldn't have got more concern and better treatment. So now, you can sit down with the wine and trifle and totally ignore him for the rest of the evening.

Ellianne Thu 27-Aug-20 18:07:00

Oh Whitewavemark2 what a cheeky boy and he looks so cute too! I'm pleased he is ok. Enjoy your bottle of wine and trifle!

PinkCakes Thu 27-Aug-20 18:16:46

Whitewavemark2 Having just read through your posts today, I'm so glad your boy is alright. They cause us to worry at times, as they're part of the family.

Mapleleaf Thu 27-Aug-20 19:04:08

Good news, WWM2. Even though he embarrassed you at the vets this afternoon, the fact he is ok is all that matters. ?

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Aug-20 19:09:23

So glad that he is ok. I had similar with my much-loved cat last year. Enjoy that trifle and wine, you've earned it. wine

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Aug-20 19:10:16

By the way, he is gorgeous!

LauraNorder Thu 27-Aug-20 19:13:23

HURRAY for you and for that naughty joker, Duncan. I'm so pleased for you both.

Alegrias Thu 27-Aug-20 19:33:02

Good for Duncan. He's probably wondering what all the fuss was about! I'm glad its all worked out well sunshine

Oopsadaisy4 Thu 27-Aug-20 19:55:18

Such good news, give him a treat from us and a hug.

Such good news, give him a treat from us and a hug.

He’s licked out the empty trifle dish. You can tell by his rotund tummy

Bathsheba Thu 27-Aug-20 20:05:38

I'm late to this thread, read through it all and lived through today's ups and downs with Duncan - I was therefore so pleased to read your post to say all was well! Not toe curlingly embarrassing at all WWM2, just such a relief and lovely end to a worrying day for you.

We had a dog whose back legs would randomly collapse under her. We found that if we lifted her up, under her armpits so to speak, and held her up for a while with her back legs dangling, she would recover. The vet at the time said something about trapped nerves, drew diagrams for us to explain it all, but it was a long time ago, and I don't recall exactly the issue. He did tell us that what we were doing was exactly right and explained why holding her up for a minute or two worked.

Rosalyn69 Thu 27-Aug-20 20:07:28

Don’t apologise. I think we are all glad he’s ok. He’s a very handsome chap for sure.
