Oh this is hilarious WWM2. Everyone concerned this poor boy is now unable to walk and at the 11th hour, the bold Duncan starts toddling across the floor. Priceless and thank you for the giggle Duncan. ?. What a wonderful outcome for you both?

Whitewave, what a good looking dog he is, you can see he is full of terrier personality.
I do hope he stays rallied - old dogs have shared so much of our lives and given us so much fun, laughter, joy, love and yes, stress.

Just seen this thread - I’m so glad Duncan has made a miraculous recovery! What a rascal. We had a dog who used to limp when she thought she was in trouble. They’re class actors.

What type of terrier is he? I like his dark colouring.

We had a cat who lost the use of one leg, couldn't walk, we were desperately worried about her and loaded her into the car (no cat carriers then) to take her to the vet. Two miles down the road she panicked and started jumping around from the back to the front with no problem at all. Get her to the vets, nothing wrong, back home and into the house and all of a sudden she has this massive limp, obviously decided she liked all the fuss and attention it got her!

Maybe he felt you were off colour and anxious

A neighbour of mine has a 13 year old labrador who has lost the use of his arthritic back legs. My neighbour bought a leather harness for the dog which has a handle atop the lower back for the guy to hold the dog up and the dog manages and seems to enjoy his little walks. The dog has some medication for pain and his owner also gives him turmeric. I also saw a dog in a sort of wheeled buggy which supported its' back end while it walked on its' front legs.

The beauty of reading a thread when the outcome is known brilliant news he's ok.

Some years ago my beloved cat didn't seem well so I took him to the vet who 'put him under' to examine him. They rang me while he was asleep and said he had a serious spinal problem which would mean his bowels and bladder would be affected and should they euthanise him to save further pain. I was in such a state of shock and distress I refused to let them do it and went to pick him up later in the day. I was told to take him home and pamper him for a couple of days then take him back to be put to sleep. We spent 2 days giving him every treat we could think of, he was allowed to sleep upstairs with me and I cried constantly thinking of what was to come. The night before his appointment my husband looked at me and said there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him - don't do it. I took him in to see the vet and told them our decision which they weren't happy about. He went on to live another 5 years totally fine and still very pampered before finally succumbing to kidney failure. I believe that vet left the practice shortly after!!

For those asking Duncan is a Cairn Terrier.

An extremely laid back character who seems to calm other nervous dogs to their owners surprise. Extraordinarily good with humans - adult and children. I have never known him to show any signs of displeasure at all.

Very terrier though and hunts all day long if he feels inclined after frogs, mice, cats anything really.

Also an ass who has sneaked back upstairs this morning and jumped onto the bed with muddy paws.

WWM2. I have only read about Duncan this morning. As soon as I saw his picture, I knew he was a Cairn.

We also had one, Jock, a wheaten colour, and loved him to bits for all of his time with us.

I am so pleased that he is up and about again, and probably leading you a merry dance.

Long may it continue.

Phew...I’m glad your little dog is back to normal.

wwm2 when I saw the post yesterday I was reluctant to read it in case it had a sad ending.

Duncan may well have had a problem with his hip or hips- he may have partially dislocated and could not move but after all of the examinations and movement it clicked back into place so he was able to run around again. He is a beautiful, handsome fellow. Treasure him.

Good news Whitewavemark2 Duncan sounds like a real little character, I hope you have many more happy years with him by your side.

So glad Duncan is ok. A holistic vet recommended CBD hemp oil as very good for arthritic joints in dogs. My dog also went for hydrotherapy and there were lots of dogs older than yours who couldn’t walk very easily but enjoyed a swim in the warm water which kept them exercised if you reach that stage. In the meantime enjoy more time with your lovely doggy.

Phew WWM2, what a little rascal. So pleased he’s ok. A bottle of wine and a strawberry trifle sound like necessities after that emotional rollercoaster. (He is a really lovely boy despite being a rascal... )

Our 16 year old cat Missy, went off her food for a couple of days this week. She has a heart condition and we monitor her closely. I made an urgent appointment for her at the Vet Hospital for yesterday. As soon as I made it, she ate all of her supper, then all of her breakfast the next morning, plus cat treats.

So I cancelled the appointment and the Vet Nurse said the next time Missy goes off her food, I should threaten to make a Vet appointment, and her appetite will immediately improve.
Here she is, bold as brass.

The trouble is that they can’t talk, and I think we tend to think the worse, especially if they are older.

I’ve learnt something today - that Cairn terriers can be black! I thought they were always a brown/tan colour.

Duncan is a splendid-looking chap, muddy paws and all.

I'd heard Cairns were quite rare these days. I used to know one. A very nice wee dog called Rufus.
