I honestly don't know where the cat was swimming, but he had obviously fallen into something that wasn't all that easy to get out of.

He didn't come in for breakfast at seven and turned up soaking wet at midday.

He's fine, but was tired for two days.

But please, if you have water butts or garden ponds, do please check that the butts are covered and that ponds have a plank that cats, dogs, foxes, etc, can walk up.

CHILDREN can drown in the same amount of water as an animal.

Yes, part of having a cat and letting it lead the life nature intended for cats instead of confining it to the house or a run in the garden is having to accept that one day the cat might not come home.

My suggestion of a plank in a pond or pool is not only to prevent cats drowning, but any animal that might fall in, or Heaven forbid a child!

There are so many cruel acts carried out these days,2 cats found with fireworks tied to them and horrific injuries, doesn't bear thinking about, several in some areas with ears and tails cut off, etc
My cats never venture out of the garden, they would be too scared, they were house cats for quite a long time, and when eventually i let them in the garden on their own they never went out of it
One of the accidentally got locked out last week when i put the bins out, poor thing as sat at the door waiting to be let in the morning after,
They have never brought a bird in either
I have a squirrel comes every day,and they sit and watch him ,no attempt to chase
Saying that they are Ragdolls,so very laid back anyway
I used to have Tonkinese and a Siamese which were more active, but still didn't go away
If any cat is kept in for a while they wont want to go far as they are a bit nervous of the noises outside, they are not familiar with
I certainly wouldn't leave my cat out overnight,[on purpose]

Spice101

Glad your cat is OK grandtante.

An opinion that I'm sure will incur the wrath of some, but I really do believe cats like any other animal should be confined to their own property. I cannot understand why people allow their cats to roam at their will and often to their detriment. Surely if you have a loved pet you want to keep it safe.

Not wrath, Spice101, just open mouthed that you think such a thing is
A) possible
B) practical
C) fair on the car

Some people have indoor cats, fair enough, but I have reservations with regard to their quality of life. Yes, I know some owners go to great lengths to provide stimulation and play areas for indoor cats.

I knew someone with 4 cats who had her garden fenced with special inward facing wire on top of the fence panels so that although the cats could go outside, they couldn't leave the garden.

It looked like a prison yard.
