This morning DH and I said goodbye to our wee tortie who was 18 ½ and had severe renal disease. We have been nursing her over the last week and a half but she had begun to struggle and stopped eating even the kitten yogurty tubes. It was very sad but our vet has been extremely supportive and it was time. Nothing more to say really but there is a cat shaped hole in our hearts.
I'd have all my cats back if I could, i would have 15, be covered in cat hair, constantly talking at them and tripping over them day and night but I'd be doing it happy
So sorry Elaine, and I like other pet owners, understand how you feel. Kiara was a very good age, several of our cats sadly went when they were only about 12 years.
Sounds like she had a fantastic life with you. I bet she got lots of treats and fuss from the residents.
It’s so sad to see our dear pets fading away at the end of their lives but Keira was your wonderful companion for 18 years. A wonderful long life. You did your very best for her and were with her until the end. The loss is so very painful . RIP Keira ?
I know how you feel only too well Elaine. It is heart wrenching to lose a much loved family pet. We have always had cats and dogs, each and everyone of them hugely important, precious members of the family. ?
We have just lost two cats in quick succession. Our cat-shaped hole is beginning to get slightly smaller and yours will too. Finally it will be small enough to fill with a kitten!
Take your time mourning Kiara, she deserves it and so do you, but you did the best for her,
Thank you everyone - I knew lots of you would have been through the same. Our first cat also lived a long life and had a stroke. DH had to be with her at the end as I was working so I am grateful we were together at the end for Kiara. Vet was so kind. Sorry for all of you who have been through this with any pets. They really are part of the family for us all.
Its taken me all day to read this because I knew it would be sad. I'm so sorry to read about Kiara, Elaine1. We lost our kitties many years ago but I think about them nearly every day. ?
I am just catching up before bed. Very sorry for you pets are invaluable and so important. I actually grew up with cats but always have two dogs until we lost our Jack Russell I have not got over it I loved him so much. Maybe give it time and get another little friend to love and cherish ?
I feel for you ElaineI. We lost our darling Crinkle (aged 16) in June of 2020; it was totally unexpected as we hadn't got a clue she was ill. The staff at our local vets were so kind to us, it was during lockdown but they let us in to be with her and it was very peaceful and calm, she had her chin on DH's hand and I was stroking her head.
We miss her all the time but there are particular things that bring her sharply to mind - for me it's mostly when I'm preparing meals, she was a very keen observer and always offered to try out a bit of chicken or fish to make sure it was okay for us to eat!
It was DH's 80th birthday last January and I had Crinkle's portrait painted and framed for him; there were tears but it's a lovely reminder of our much-loved pet.
