I feel for you ElaineI. We lost our darling Crinkle (aged 16) in June of 2020; it was totally unexpected as we hadn't got a clue she was ill. The staff at our local vets were so kind to us, it was during lockdown but they let us in to be with her and it was very peaceful and calm, she had her chin on DH's hand and I was stroking her head.
We miss her all the time but there are particular things that bring her sharply to mind - for me it's mostly when I'm preparing meals, she was a very keen observer and always offered to try out a bit of chicken or fish to make sure it was okay for us to eat!
It was DH's 80th birthday last January and I had Crinkle's portrait painted and framed for him; there were tears but it's a lovely reminder of our much-loved pet.
