Dog sleeping on your bed..

Like Merlotgran since being widowed I have allowed my dog to come upstairs and sleep at the bottom of the bed. He isn’t a large dog (Border Terrier), he doesn’t cast much and lies on a throw. It’s reassuring just knowing he is there and he doesn’t cause any problems. It’s personal choice and depends on your circumstances and of course how big your dog is.

It's a no from me. Our dogs have always slept downstairs.

My daughter's dog sleeps in her bed, and when she stays here I grudgingly let him sleep on top of her bed on a washable throw, so he can feel like he's in with her. I am not at all keen, but it wouldn't be fair to make him sleep downstairs when he's been used to having company overnight. The thought of sleeping next to a dog, with dog breath at one end and worse at the other is deeply unpleasant, and worse - he snores

Not really, one of my dogs occasionally jumps on the bed for a few minutes but she makes me feel hot so I push her off. They do have their own daybed in my room.

Peggy has slept on my bed since DH died. She’s a Jack Russell so not large and has her own throw at the bottom. It’s a comfort to know she’s there.

Yes If I was on my own. And yes when we are away.
But not as a general rule.

Entirely up to the dog owner. Our current Lab will sometimes daunder through and get up on the bed for a while, but he usually does his own thing and sleeps wherever takes his fancy. He does have a proper dog bed, but chooses to store his toys in it rather than sleep in it! Our old Lab, on the other hand, chose to sleep underneath our bed, even when he was getting a bit too old and stiff to squeeze under it.

My lab wasnt allowed upstairs to protect his growing joints - he never tries to go up stairs at home but is happy to negotiate them on walks

It depends on personal choice. My dogs always slept in the kitchen till we extended and made whst was the garage a large utility. That’s now their bedroom. It’s also where they’re fed, get bones/treats when visitors arrive

My feeling is if dogs are never away from their people how can they ever be left if the owners go away or there is an emergency

No, my dog never sleeps on the beds - not for want of trying on his part, he’d love to but he knows he isn’t allowed upstairs.

I don`t have a dog, but the cat sleeps on my bed regularly, I don`t mind.

I do not have a dog but dog sit in other houses, most sleep on the bed with me, I don't mind it in their houses but wouldn't like it in mine as the hair clings to the bedding and some have that dog smell in the soft furnishings.
