My beautiful baby had her operation yesterday and she’s really suffering, they must have pumped her full of drugs because she can’t have any more until 1 o’clock and she’s hallucinating. I could hear her crying in the night - it’s breaking my heart poor girl.

Awwww……get well soon Elles’ baby !

Wishing you a speedy recovery, gorgeous girl. 🐾💕

Poor love. Hope she gets well soon.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 16-Feb-24 10:28:10

When my dog had this operation I spent the night with her.

Georgesgran Fri 16-Feb-24 10:36:32

Me too GSM - slept on the kitchen floor with him.

Cone of shame Elless or one of the newer things to prevent her nibbling the stitches?

keepcalmandcavachon Fri 16-Feb-24 11:14:22

Oh Elless, your poor darling, hope she feels better soon x

Elless Fri 16-Feb-24 12:11:36

She had a massive cone on when she came home but it was frightening her so I've taken it off and keeping an eye on her.

sodapop Fri 16-Feb-24 12:23:03

I've never understood why it is referred to as the ' cone of shame' when it is purely a preventative measure.

I hope your lovely girl makes a good recovery * Elless*

Curlywhirly Fri 16-Feb-24 12:23:39

Aw, poor thing. I slept on the floor with our labrador when she had surgery - she whimpered all night and seemed very confused (the drugs obviously). The cones of shame are awful, maybe try putting a t shirt or jumper on her instead so she can't lick the wound. It's awful to see them in distress, but they soon bounce back (especially if they get lots of treats!).

Georgesgran Fri 16-Feb-24 12:35:49

The nasty dog in UP wears the cone of shame, but I think poorly dogs wearing them know they look ridiculous and just feel so sorry for themselves.

Speechless

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 16-Feb-24 14:38:50

The whole leg has to be shaved for a cruciate ligament repair, MOnica. I was pretty speechless about the poor dog having been left alone on the first night, bewildered and in pain.

Knitandnatter Fri 16-Feb-24 14:40:38

Oh, what a sweet lady. I do hope she makes a good recovery. Fingers crossed that her pain is minimal and easily managed. These are for you Elless flowers for being a super nurse mum.

I hope you don't think we left her alone Germanshepherdmum, she normally sleeps at the bottom of the stairs but chose to sleep in the lounge on her new deep, soft bed that I bought for her and we took turns going to check on her.

Oh my, gentle hugs from me and my single remaining dog and I hope her fur grows back quickly too.

Granddog had a special little coat that he wore after an operation.

He managed to remove the t-shirt they tried on him at first.

I hear what you say, Elless, but I slept (not a lot) on the sofa beside my dog who had chosen to sleep on the living room floor. I was with her all the time. I couldn’t have left her alone and just checked on her.

Best wishes to your lovely dog and hopes she feels better soon. Also to you as it is difficult to see them suffer.
They're tough cookies these little things , hang on in there.x

Aveline Fri 16-Feb-24 17:59:38

Awww poor thing. I mean the dog and also you. It's awful to see our beloved pets in pain and confusion. I hope she's feeling much better soon. Please keep us updated on her progress.

Elless Fri 16-Feb-24 18:02:51

Germanshepherdsmum You do not know me or my circumstances please don't judge, it's unfair.

Smileless2012 Fri 16-Feb-24 18:15:18

It breaks your heart doesn't it Elless flowers for you and (((hugs))) for your beautiful baby.

I hope you'll come back and let us know how she's doing.

LauraNorderr Fri 16-Feb-24 18:18:31

What a beautiful girl Elless, wishing her a speedy recovery. I’m sure she’ll be fine under your loving care. flowers

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 16-Feb-24 18:19:12

There’s no way I would not have been with my girl on that night Elless. If your circumstances prevented that doubtless you will explain. This is a dog who was confused and in considerable pain.
