Alain Delon's Dog

The deceased film actor had asked that his healthy 10 year old Malinois be euthanased and buried with alongside him. He said the dog was like a child to him and he knew it would suffer if Alain was not there any more.

His family refused the request ,and animal welfare organisations upheld their decision to not euthanase the animal.

Do you think Alain Delon knew best what was right for the dog?

I did once hear of a couple who put their dog into kennels while they went on holiday - having never left it before, and the dog was at least 8 years old IIRC.

It pined and died before they returned a fortnight later. So I dare say such things do happen.

Sadly rehoming is not 100% successful.

Alain Delon was buried in the grounds of his estate where his other dogs had been buried.

88 yesrs old and a stoke sufferer I am thankful he didn’t know
his wishes were not carried out.

I hope his dog has the joy of a loving home.
RIP

The answer is simple.
Alain D was buried today in his garden. Read Park.
Animals are not allowed to be buried in your garden.

Lots of people bury their pets in gardens here, so France is a different case escaped

La première chose à savoir est qu’il est absolumentinterdit par la loi française d’enterrerun animal dans son jardin si son poids est supérieur à 40 kilos. Désormais, il est égalementinterdit d’enterrer son chien si il fait moins de 40 kilos.

Here's the relevant article (no 98)

Article 98 – Cadavres d’animaux

Article 98 - Dead animals
It is forbidden to dispose of animal carcasses on the public highway or in household waste. refuse, as well as throwing them into ponds, rivers, drinking troughs, chasms and
burying them less than 35 metres from dwellings,
wells, springs and within the perimeters of protection of springs and water and supply works provided for in the drinking water regulations.
Their destruction is ensured in accordance with the provisions of articles 264, 265, 266 and 275 of the French Rural Code and in accordance with the provisions of the law of 19 July 1976 on installations classified for environmental protection (1)

I think that the distance from a dwelling has increased from 35 m to 100m and there is now a given weight limit (40kg).
So it seems to me that it is possible to bury a pet dog or cat in your garden.

They do that in the states, they even euthenanse pets where one party in a divorce wins said pet them kills it for vengence and vets know that;s why

I don't think a healthy animal should be destroyed if there is someone to provide a loving home for it. I can see that if an older dog had to be placed in kennels and could not be re-homed that would be distressing for it.

Witzend That's such a sad story.

I understand why he made that request. He was trying to protect his dog from possible future mishaps harm and heartbreak. It wasnt a young dog.
